MST3K-Broadcast Editions: 608-Code Name: Diamond Head 10/1/1994

Its been nice being here in downtown Fargo, but I really should be getting back to Hawaii...
Starring Ian McShane aka Lovejoy!
With short: A Day at The Fair
This is from the the fourth year of Comedy Central. In its prime. Watch for lots of nostalgic commercials!
The world premiere!
Aired October 1, 1994 at 7pm.
Check back here roughly every week-ish (ha!) for more broadcast versions of MST3K episodes.
FYI, I'm always on the look-out for taped episodes with their commercials intact. Preferably March 1991 and earlier, July 93-October 93 or Turkey Days '91, '93 & '94. I'll even pay for the things. Interested? Drop me a line! Find me on Reddit, Tarlcabot18. My email address is in my profile.

I love how (around the 1:22:00 mark) the leader of the good guys tries to call the top secret government lab researching lethal chemical weapons and can’t get through because they only had ONE PHONE. Cinema at it’s finest!

And everybody in the top secret lab got knocked out by crowding around one cloud of obvious poison gas. Not even a grad student in the back cleaning glassware or anything.

One of my top five episodes. I love the TV movie/pilot episodes, and having recognizable actors like Ian McShane, Roy Thinnes (who had earlier appeared in the General Hospital shorts), France Nuyen and Ward Costello (both were in iterations of Star Trek) against the genuine Hawaiian setting circa 1977 really makes this a treat. Gary in Cinema had the entire film remastered with riffs and I really get caught up in the plot, but I also understand why they passed on it; as Tom points out, it’s kinda hilarious how the dialogue at the end is trying to set it up for a series, but I couldn’t see how financially viable such a series could be. Regardless, a personal favorite, I can put this episode on anytime.

This one of those episodes that creeped up on me over time and grew to be a favorite. Whenever they move away from, what I at least perceive to be, the "expected" types of movies a show called "Mystery Science Theater" is supposed to have on it, the better it is in the long run. I don't particularly care for most of the fan favorite eps (some I would even say are downright terrible) which makes watching or re-watching shows like this one all the more rewarding.

@Mr Sack - What do you mean by “Gary in cinema had it remastered with riffs”? Is there another version of this floating around somewhere?

@@RoyAnderson a KZreadr was remastering the original films themselves to high quality digital prints in their entirety, then would overlay the riffing where they belonged. It allowed you to see all the content cut from the episodes for time/content and appreciate the films themselves in their best versions. It was only the films and the riffing, no silhouettes or satellite sequences. He had about 100 or so of these uploaded, shorts and features, before he was forced to cease and desist and remove all content from the internet. Very sad given the amount of work put into it and the new appreciation it garnered for the films themselves.

Tarl this is some of the best content on KZread thanks so much for the work you put into it! Do you have more late 90s early 2000s tapes coming up in the future? I'm super nostalgic for seasons 7 and 8.

The rest of Season 6 that I have is mostly a mix of early 95 and some re-runs from early 96. There's a few from the 95 summer countdown and some other 1995-1996 reruns I want to put up. Season 7 is early 96. I have the first-runs of Seasons 8-10, so 97-99. Those are coming in awhile. I may skip ahead briefly and put up something from Season 8 soon, just to mix it up.
