Holy shit I just realized this show was probably influenced by old master control operator jobs. I was a master control operator years ago and you literally sit there having to watch whatever your station was airing. LITERALLY. You have to make sure the signal is broadcasting correctly and occasionally play shows from video tape to air. I had to monitor DAYS OF OUR LIVES and it was so maddening. Even the pilot intro here shows a master control room. Now I love this show even more, from my experiences from being TRAPPED by an evil corporation to watch terrible shows.

Joel has said that the original inspiration for him was the old Warner Bros cartoons when sometimes the characters would talk back to the audience or they would show someone in the "audience" moving in front of the screen. (remember that cartoon shorts were originally shown in front of movies at theaters.)

The master control operator is basically how they are tourturing mike, Joel and Jonah and that makes sense in tandem with the people moving in an audience in a theatere since that is what it looks like when they are inside of the theatere

I really love how they found multiple ways to sing the same song.

I know. That is the main problem with the themesong. It is a nice tune, with good words that people want to sing. However, they all sing different verses, and have arguments over it, instead of having fun.

Not sure if it's something to do with regional accents, but from a rhythmic standpoint the points of emphasis in the earliest version is a bit... weird. Not *bad* exactly, but stilted and awkward. If it's what they were going for, it's a stylistic decision they changed their minds on, and I think they wouldn't have gone as intergenerational as they have if they kept it as-is, though the latter versions are *not* perfect. My personal go-to example is how 'next Sunday AD' is a 5-syllable line following an 8-syllable line, only managing to partially match the beat by stretching the 'n' in Sunday to a beat of it's own ('next-sun-n-day-a-d') with the first syllable on an unstressed beat, while the later 'Saturday' line variation needs no oddly stretched pronunciation to match the even syllables of the preceeding line. However, "We'll send him horr-i-ble-mo-vies" trying to fit 5 syllables into 4 hurts my brain and imho "cheesy movies" works much better. Have a good day!

I love that they kept Godzilla's drop kick supported only by his tail for four seasons. It's from Godzilla vs. Megalon, the only one I've seen without Joel and the Bots. In the Netflix seasons, the movie clip shown during the theme song is always from the movie featured in that particular episode.

My father and his theatre friends watched it all the time when I was a kid. I'm 20 now and just started watching the Netflix Series but I could still remember the shapes of the robots' silhouettes with some guy in between them. Before that, I recently saw Joel and the bots live in my hometown for Joel's last tour on the Satellite of Love. It was an interesting concept to me then, even though I barely understood or recalled what was said, and riffing has been one of my favorite forms of comedy, as it allows me to ease the suffering of the worst movies we can find.

@@maddymooo I can kinda see Tom's new voice going for more of what Josh Weinstien did, but i honestly miss his 50's radio voice. Crow has sounded the same throughout all of his voices, just with slightly different inflections. I can definitely tell Bill's Crow from Trace's and Hampton's and so on I respect the decision to give Gypsy a legitimately female voice, but man, i still really love her loudmouth falsetto.

I especially enjoy the Mike Nelson episodes, but they’re all good tbh.

Its a testament to how big of fans my parents were when I was growing up that every single version of this theme sets off my nostalgia. The one that has always been in my head is Joel's but for some reason Pearl's themes set off a core memory for me...

I always like the "rawness" of season 0 - I was in 8th grade when this aired locally.

It is sad that cambot is not an actual character anymore. I like that he was in season 0 and 1

The first time I saw this show was on a Saturday night on PBS a year ago. It was plenty nice. I wish they still aired it on GPB or PBA-30...

Season 7 is the shortest, but also the funniest. Blood Beast is in my opinion the funniest episode, it's just non-stop amazing lines. "Had to snap him in half like a frozen dog!"

Honestly, some of my favorite TV intros!

Let’s Plays are basically MST3K but for games and with 1 dude/dudess (sometimes 2 and rarely 3)

this show has a weird amount of actual lore considering it's just a show where they rip on old movies for an hour but i should really just relax tbh

The intros that I remember the most are the ones with Godzilla sliding on the ground with his tail from Godzilla vs. Megalon & the one with the Gillman floating underwater from Revenge of the Creature.

I just don't know why they feel the need to say that the ktma episodes are not really part of the series I mean just because it aired in a small area doesn't mean it's not part of the show itself

Because the producers admit they didn't like that work. It wasn't up to the standards they felt they should live up to after they did a national show.
