Very informative video. I have a 4k tv with the sim and using a resolution of 3560x2160 in sim. Do I need to lower the res in case I want to use the DLSS?

I had a similar issue a few weeks ago. My frame rate in vr was just extremely low. I finally fixed it by going in to the task manager while msfs is running. and on the detail tab, look for MicrosoftFlightSimulator.exe and set the priority to high. This gave me my smooth frame rates back.

In your next 2D test, I would love to see your CPU utilization per thread with DX11 vs DX12 with MSI AB or similar.

I always found that the sun is too bright in VR and everything gets a bit washed out. Did you find that was the case and do you see any improvements in Su10 Beta regarding that?

This is what I've found.on a static test of the FBW A320nx at KLAX. No matter what settings I use and both DX11 & DX12. In fact I'm not sure if SU10 has any performance increase over SU9

Hi Wayne, are you running the open xr toolkit at the same time? I was watching Steve the vr flight sim guy and he said I think, that you can’t have it running with this beta as they are not compatible.

No, I deleted it before trying it out to make sure it didn't interfere. I can confirm the issue was with some Gatwick scenery that wasn't playing nice...

I tried the update in my Aero on Quality mode with DLSS and sadly even that is blurry. Go back to TAA and its clear again so Quality doesnt seem good enough or has issues.

Hi, thanks for the wonderfully informative video. This looks promising for VR, which I'd love to have. Any idea what the minimum specs would be to get at least 25fps in VR? Do you think a 3060 videocard would pull this?

I get up to 60fps with a 2070 Super on the Rift CV1. However, that's with a *ton* of tweaks, no traffic, and the openxr toolkit tweaks.

Don't neglect the CPU and RAM, MSFS is a hungry beast and weak CPU and low RAM systems get eaten alive by it. Recommend 32GB and a Ryzen 5600 or better.

Hi Luna, good content...but do you still have a 1080ti..if so then you need a 20 series nvidia card or late for dlss

Yep sorry, I gotta update that - I'm running a 3080

I don't get stutter with DX11 and all DX12 brings me is a 5 FPS loss. DLSS is also not giving enough performance to overcome the blurry instrument displays. Maybe things will improve if Nvidia releases a Game Ready driver that supports the MSFS changes but I think that won't happen until the release version. Performance-wise I see barely any difference but what I do like is the new G1000 features such as weather radar so DLSS remains off and I'm sticking with DX11 in the beta. FYI I have a i9 10900K, 2080Ti and 32Gb Ram.

I use OpenXR with VR, and I get 60 fps with 3080ti in TAA, about DLSS it is blurry in it actual state.

for me the game lags but it also crashes and says memory could not be read so i set page file to be auto and that made it just crash to desktop instead lol (when trying to use vr)

DLSS has given me an extra 20fps on a rtx 2060super 1440p ultrawide. I think it's giving a bigger boost on the lower end rtx cards. The high end 3000 cards will probably get the boost @4k and VR

i have the 3070 and yes, im running 4k and up to 30FPS in dense areas in a A320. do still get micro stutters but i have a feeling might be other factos

Maybe disable any third-party addons and see how things are with stock Asobo content? Also, if DLSS is enabled, try raising the AMD sharpening slider because that seems to sharpen scenery textures but does not help with blurry instrument text :(

Did you restart the whole sim after you switched from DX11 to DX12? For the change to take effect, you need to restart the sim entirely.

is the PMDG that much of a performance killer? I have a 10600k and 3080 and get like 2.5 times the FPS with higher settings..

It depends where you fly it...but it's probably one of the more demanding aircraft to run. What system are you running?

I have a less powerful computer (Lenovo Legion 5 pro), and yet I have better frames running the game at ultra preset, you should perhaps look into your nvidia settings to get better results. Also, it's amazing that the 737 works in the beta, for most it just gives a CTD and this update is already known to cause issues in VR though not this bad.

I believe ultra stands for ultra performance, i.e the lowest visual quality. Quality is the highest visual quality.

@@nlp3834 Well, that would be even more strange. Ultra settings like clouds, ambient occlusion kill performance even on my 10850k, 3090 setup, at least in VR.

@@kevinbrook7033 VR has been an issue since su9 but what I've also noticed is that some people with mid-Range graphics cards are having better experience than those with high end graphics cards. Makes no sense but I've seen it happen a couple of times. Perhaps SU10 will address this or sometimes it's the person's fault.

I need to find a video testing DLSS with no mods or 3rd party add-ons. I have a Ryzen 9 5900x, 32gigs of gskill ripjaw ram at 3200mhz, and a Gigabyte RTX 3070ti. I hold around 60fps at 1440p with ultra preset no motion blur. I lose some pfs in cities.

When is the release date for this?

Since update 8, dx 11 on my system is an unplayable lag and stutterfest, even on all lowest video settings. Worse when turning head. Dx12 is playable but not great

Worth checking for a mining virus? I had one which paused and hid itself when task manager was fired up.

Using DLSS at 1440p on a 3080 isn't really what it's for. You're already unlikely to be GPU limited at that resolution, so by asking the GPU to render an even lower resolution via DLSS isn't going to give you a performance uptick.

Agree, this was basically just demonstrating a cpu bottleneck and how changing graphical settings in that state has barely any effect.

Yea i have an i7-11800H and its the weak link in my setup, the 3060 is rarely the limit. Atleast with DLSS i can maybe play in 4k instead of 1080? Also would probably help with vr

The thing about DLSS that a lot do not realize is it will mostly benefit the people who are GPU limited. The whole point of DLSS is that it will render the sim or game at a lower resolution and upscale it with AI to closely match as if you were rendering at native taking strain of the GPU. If you are CPU limited, it really is not going to make a huge difference for performance unfortunately which is the case for a lot of others who say they see no difference.

Then why is it only on RTX GPUs? I have a GTX and by comparison, that is a limited GPU compared to the RTX. Seems by your definition it should be on the GTX's to lift performance.

@@binsurf because this all depends on your CPU as well. It sounds confusing but if you have a older style CPU that is not keeping up, you will not see a difference either. A lot of information that you RAM, GPU, and other hardware are seeing goes through the CPU. It also depends on add-ons and your configuration of the sim. A lot of factors are greatly involved. In the end DLSS is not going to be the holy grail for everybody. Maybe DX12 but DLSS is going to depend on your situation of your machine.

It does not appear you restarted the sim after switching from DX11 to DX12. You most restart to see any change.

@@LunasWorld ok cool. I think when you said something about you wondering if Dx12 loaded faster because you already loaded to that airport in Dx11, it made me think you did not restart. I downloaded the beta today and have sort of the same experience as you. Thanks again for the vid!

Hey, whats wrong with your pc? i couldnt believe your fps are that low and tested it on my system with the new update: 10900k 3080 ti 64gb ddr4, m2 ssd ( game files ) also with the scenery of london and the same plane, same settings, except resolution ( my resolution is 3440x1440 ) and i got with dlss quality on the ground standing still 60 fps, while take of 54 to 53 fps. When flying away from the airport 80 to 90 fps. This is no lie, maybe you should check your cpu cause in the video your main thread of the cpu also is very high used...

First of all you are running a 3080 and probably mainthread limited. Unless you were running something like an rtx3060@4K those cards will get the biggest gain!

​@@Mud_AleX After I read your comment I tried the benchmarks to compare. you are correct 139fps to 181 fps. ingame I never realized it. It seems my cities are to small and normally lock it by 60fps. :D

Having 55 FPS (1080p) with my 9700k/5700XT on DX11... Mostly Ultra settings... DX12 isn't worthy in this simulator...

At this point next month RTX 4090 coming FPS with your sestem go to 90 FPS for VR !!!

I Can’t find the dlss option? I installed the beta, and the sim is still crap. Dx12 beta still doesn’t work.

@@LunasWorld - thanks for your reply. Some are lucky others aren’t 🤷‍♂️☺️ Just attempted the dlss. In the left corner of the screen are letters now about dlss. It says sharpen off. Do you know if we can toggle sharpen to on and remove the letters on the screen? ☺️☺️

The problem is you’re testing on an add on ac that has performance issues; it’s limiting your test. Try with a stock ac or 3rd party ac and you’ll see a big difference

The point is, I want to dial in settings that work with ALL aircraft which is why I'm going for demanding aircraft and situations. Set and forget so that I can fly more...

Wish they went with FSR 2.0. DLSS leaves out a lot of users for little extra benefit. Hopefully they hack FSR 2.0 into it. This is very disappointing.
