I subscribed a few months ago but this is my first comment. I have a Reverb G2 V2, an RTX 3080 10gb OCed to 1800/55000, a 13600KF OCed to 55/55/54/54/53/53 // 44/ x 8, and 32gb of DDR5 RAM at 5600. I used your exact setting for a 3070 (with DLSS/Balanced) and I am NOW finally getting what I would consider the absolute BEST visuals in this headset. I tried many other configuration from other sources and I was always very unhappy with the results. I had been using a Meta Quest 2 with link cable and could not get the visuals I now get with the Reverb G2. Before I used your settings, I had though I had made a big mistake buying the Reverb G2... I no longer think that way now! Thank you so much for your efforts and time. You have made this simmer a very happy man!!! 😁

its almost like you knew I had spent the day tweaking my setup with older videos to try and get he best out of my 4090/G2 setup, had this evening planned for some cooler! VR tinkering and you have just made my day with this Video, now looking forward to finishing work :)

I have the openXR toolkit (from github) running for my pimaxXR. Should I also be downloading the openXR toolkit for windows mixed reality or is having both pointless? I'm assuming the internal menu (when using VR) is identical either way?

would you recommend buying a G2 (V2) now or wait for either a Quest 3 or any newer headsets coming out. I have a high-end PC... 7800x3D, 64GB RAM, RTX4090.

I think contact shadows especially and less so ambient occlusion make a massive difference on how trees look. With them turned off the trees look so terrible to me that it’s immersion-breaking, because there are just no shadows on them. So even on the 3070 I take the small performance hit and leave those on low. But it was a really good tip to try DLSS, when it was introduced initially I tried it and found it terrible because text on displays was completely blurred, so I stuck with TAA. Now that seems to have been fixed (or the trick was to set OXR to 100%), and DLSS looks a lot crisper all round, although text is still slightly more blurred than under TAA.

Thanks for this Steve. I've got a 12700k/4090 and last week i was getting ready to upgrade the system to the 13700 or 7800x3d. I've been using dx12 dlss for some time now but my fps had got quite poor. Yesterday or reset everything and restored everything back on dx11 taa now and it's working better and looking clearer. I'm going to give it a further tweak later when i get home with a view to reducing some of the settings (clouds on ultra) and see how i get on. Thanks for video refreshing the settings for the g2.

Hi Steve, thanks a lot. I have a RTX 3080 and HP Reverb G2, following your suggestions and tips it is running smoothly and with a very good resolution. I have to say that I am using supersampling with OpeXR Toolkit to 3700. It makes a big difference in the shake of clarity. I encourage to everyone to test it, it is really amazing !!!

Have a realy old cpu in combination with a 3060TI i i reach a good 50fps , i have this sim fore only a month now and i love it , saving money fore a 4080 card , not there yet 😢😢

Question, if using DLSS with frame generation is motion reprojection in tools still viable or should it be turned off?

With a 2k monitor, for example, I can fly smoothly with MSFS at Ultra settings without any slowdowns. I'm considering getting a Reverb G2 rev2. Would you recommend the purchase? Hey, I just wanted to say I really enjoyed this video and appreciated you putting it out, but I did see some performance differences with my settings compared to yours, and I would be curious to see your reaction trying my settings. Some of my settings are higher than yours, and trying your settings I actually found a significant performance decrease in both frame rates and stutter. My settings seem to run significantly smoother, despite having some of my details set higher than yours. My system is an RTX 4090 and a 13900 KF. My settings are as follows: My anti-aliasing is not using TAA, but is using DLSS super, my world scale is set to 130, just because I found the interiors of the aircraft to be abnormally small when set to 100. I fly in real life, so the scale to me just seemed off. I have terrain level of detail set to 300, pre-cashing set to ultra, terrain vector data set to high, buildings set to high, trees grass and bushes all set to ultra, objects level of detail is set to 200, clouds ultra, texture resolution high, anistropic filtering 16, super sampling set to 8 x 8, texture synthesis ultra, water waves high, shadow maps and terrain shadows both set to 2048, contacts shadows ultra, windshield effects ultra, ambient occlusion all the way off, cube map reflections 256 Ray marched reflections high, light shafts high, bloom on, and glass cockpit refresh set to high. I would be curious to see how your experience is with my settings, considering we are running such a similar hardware set up. A lot of my quality settings are higher than yours, and I am getting between 40 and 50 frames per second with no stutter. The only time I run into stutter issues is with large areas of photogrammetry. This is with the reverb G2. My Pimax Crystal is on the way!

Out of curiosity, why DX11 and not DX12? I found that using my RTX3080 I got less micro stutters using DX12. But having upgraded to 4080, I am not sure which is better now, it's very subtle, but I think DX11 works better for me now. I am courious what are your findings.

Hi Just a question. Thus video you said is for 3070 / 4070 / 4090 cards. I also have a G2 and a 4090 card. Can you make an actual video with all these new possibilities in msfs. Or what is difference in thus video between the 3 cards. I haven't found any different settings. I'm sure that a 4090 could have better settings than 3070. Please Thank you

So i just got the reverb g2 up and running, set the motion projection to 1/2 framerate , 100% render scale. You what, 145 frames per second? Not sure if the msi fps counter is working right. Looks like butter and the difference compared to the good old oculus rift is eye popping! Maybe i need to ramp up the ultras a bit Edit Framerate is 45 htz after reboot, that makes sense!

I have found woth my g2 using xr toolkit with 45fps locked reprojection that cas shapening in xr toolkit and amd fidelity sharpening in msfs options created much more motion glitching (the watery jitters) If you turn all sharpening off you find reprojection works so much nicer and you can add a touch back in and then supersample a tiny bit to regain the sharpness Its working well for me

I wanted to follow up with you after I made the suggested setting changes this evening. I've had my 13900K 4090 system (HP G2) for several days now. I've been experimenting with various configurations -- Through trial and error, I came up with very similar settings to those you mentioned here. But, your suggestion to increase the Custom Render Scale in OpenXR Tools for WMR was transformative for me. I set it to 140%, and I'm getting clearer visuals in the G2 than I thought possible. I've been flight simming for 35 years, and this is the experience I've been dreaming of all these years! Just wow! Thank You!

I keep seeing references to OpenXR, but I'm using SteamVR. Although it's not as efficient or gives as many framerates as OpenXR but having OVRToolkit to bring in windows (apps) and the desktop in VR is an absolute must for me, and that is the only reason I'm using SteamVR. Is there any tool out there as good as OVRTookit that doesn't require SteamVR?

I really like your channel and have learned so much from you. I have the Pimax Crystal and Varjo Aero. What do you do to make it easier to switch between the VR headsets? Do you change the Registry every time?

My pleasure. I hope you resolve the issues, might be worth making sure your USB power settings are not set to turn off to conserve power, and I'd recommend a power hub.

Steve, I believe there are a lot of interactions between the different sharpening options and the artifacts you see from motion compensation. From the testing I did before I stopped using my G2 (in favor of the Crystal) I had determined the AMD sharpening in the sim settings was causing flickering around objects. The NVIDIA motion flow thingy recently added to the WMR tools also caused extra artifacts particularly when looking sideways at things out the window. It would be great if someone could confirm and sort out all those issues and issue a guide, because like you I am a huge fan of MC.

I Have a system close to steve's with an i5 13600KF, RTX4090 and 32gb DDR5 and II get the same with motion reprojection as you seem to be describing. Getting around 55-60fps without MR using these setting with only CAS ay 50% but then enabling from within openXR ingame or in windows panel gives me the artifacts (like looking through water) when looking around windows (cessna 152) and around the wings. looks horrible. trying to work out why because it shouldn't happen. 😖

Thanks for this, just i side note that someone might get helped by: I get a much smoother experience if i use motion reprojection in openxr tools, and turn turbo mode off in openxr toolkit. Best frame rate, optical flow disabled and leave prefer frame rate over latency unchecked in tools. Turbo mode should override motion projection, but there might be an conflict if both are enabled simultaneously.

Do you know where I could buy an all-configured ready-to-play pack VR+PC?

You’ve basically got 2 choices with the 4090 you aim for 90fps and make the compromises or you accept the reprojection and up the quality. Obviously the higher the native resolution of your HMD the harder it is to achieve 90fps and I do find it being downplayed by a lot of vendors and reviewers probably because there isn’t a lot they can do about it besides supporting DFR or having the optics in a way to keep the barrel distortion render resolution manageable. I find it also depends on the game and what you are doing for example low-level heli & jet flights vs. Chilling at higher altitude watching the world go by can either be very forgiving or punishing… Similarly a space sim like StarWars Squadrons the effects of motion reprojection are stark. It’s good to talk about it though it helps people understand what they can realistically expect. What would be good to see is more HMDs support an 80Hz refresh rate imho

I know its an older video, but I appreciate your focus on the Reverb G2 here. Seems like the newer headsets are getting all the focus lately. I see that Microsoft has deprecated WMR and won't include it in future versions of Windows (12 I suppose). This probably puts the stake through the heart of the Reverb G2 in the not too distant future. So us G2 owners will probably be looking to upgrade, sadly. Thanks again.

Thanks Steve for all the hard work you do at least with my g2 and my 4090 I know I’m doing right looking at your guide well nearly I use dlss render scale 220%!! And use cas and 50%Graphics setting very high and some ultra I also undervolt the cpu as that’s all you can do with the 5800x3d and use msi afterburner to get the most out of the 4090 but I guess is bottlenecked anyway I get about 50 to 60 fps but use dx 12

Why can’t I use my t16000 in vr? I think because my left motion controller is controlling the centre stick it won’t let my t16000m control it (it’s showing up in settings and my throttle works fine) how do I fix this

At 4:30 in the video you say set in the open xr tool kit to 150. Set what to a 150? Sorry I can't make out what your saying there in the video, I know it's super sampling just have never seen the setting for super sampling. Thank you appreciate all your video's.

My pleasure! I've used a 1070ti before with the Reverb G2, it's not something I'd recommend, but you can get away with it if you are sensible with settings (and expectations).

Hi Steve. I would love if you could do the same type of video recommending the G2 settings for DCS. I have a RTX 3080 and found this video quite useful compared to demonstrating what a 4090 system can get away with.

Hey David. As I'm sure you are aware, the situation changes constantly. At the moment, DX11 with HAGS on uisng TAA is my preferred way of flying. However, if you prefer DLSS, try DX12. It is inherently more unstable though.

I‘m running a RTX4080 together with a 10th Generation i7-10700K CPU. I personally found that actually DLSS Quality with 140% Render Scale in OpenXR Developer Tools and 60% CAS sharpening in OpenXR Toolkit gives me the best visual quality because the outside textures are much more crisp and sharp with the supersampled G2 image, than 100% TAA

As always thank you for your hard work for the community. Just tried the settings out over London city with 30 fps locked using MR. I am a fan of that as well 😊. Seemed very smooth to me and a sharp image. I have preordered the Crystal so I am looking forward to the upgrade from the G2, which I am very fond of still. I hope I will be amazed 🤞

hello i have a gtx 4090 am trying to get the fps up in the flight sim i must be doingg some thing wrong driving me made keep geting 20 fps it starts off on load up screen in the 40s to 50s then drops in the sim

Yes, there's a few areas I'd like confirming for the high end 4090 setup. I get confused everytime I watch it. 150 in wmr... Is this with dlss or Taa and motion repro or not. I'd like to know your personal high end settings... Not so much the choices. I think I get confused easy these days😂

Try setting the anisotropic settings to 16x in the Nvidia control panel >program>MSFS2020 setting instead and off in game. Made a good difference for me.

Better internet will definitely help a streaming flight sim like MSFS for sure. But the Reverb G2 is a wired headset, so I'm sure your standard router will be fine as you are not using it over WIFI.

I just installed the Pimax Software and the OpenXR Runtime for Pimax. The first look into the JP Logistics C152 at EDFZ was amazing, absolutely great 🥰 can’t wait to continue my Crystal experience tomorrow. My pleasure! The settings are purely aimed at high FPS, for some people, they can 'put up with' lower fps and higher settings, depending on the flying they are doing. I did try your settings, along with many others and I personally found it made performance (or visual quality) worse. I'm not a fan of limiting / locking the fps either, since this interferes with MR. But these are just my personal opinion, it doesn't mean that's the way to go. As I've alluded to in this video, since there's many ways people can do this. Cheers!

@@VRFlightSimGuy Ok cool you tried them. I definitely also find fps important - but still generally get 45+. I think (but could be wrong) that the one setting that seemed to make quite a difference for me was "Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias - Clamp" (whatever that means). Anyway important thing is that the G2 and 3070 are still a great package together! Will keep me going until my 5090 upgrade 🙂

totally agree with this...

It is so frustrating that FBW or Fenix have not managed to synchronize the thrust lever to this day. With VR controller it is not possible to operate the thrust lever reasonably. You can only operate one lever of the two at a time. This makes a flight impossible

thats the first time I've ever seen a recommendation for HAGS on, I am running a 4090.... switched it on and it seems better.

Why does no one ever mention world scale settings in steam vr. I usually set it to 115%, gives me a more real feel in cockpit with flight and sim racing.

Is this compatible with Xbox series X??

You're welcome!

You can lower the resolution in OpenXR from 100% to 50%. At 100% OpenXR is supersampling the resolution. Lower it to 50% and you match the native headset resolution. The difference between 100% and 50% is very small (hardly noticeable) but you gain a lot of fps.

@@_Arthur- I did not say it did not exist, I said it is not visible, even when you lower the resolution to match the native resolution of the panels in the headset which is just below 50% in this case (you cannot set it to match exactly so 50% is the closest you can get. I have looked very thoroughly with both 100% and 50% and there is no visible barrel distortion. So at least in the case of the G2 you do not need to use super sampling. Instead you can lower the resolution and gain quite a lot of fps.

We need full setup guide for Crystal from start until finish on how to get the most out of it and setup it correctly..... But it's better to do this once eye tracking update is out for non beta users

Can i ask why you puts fsr to 200? Rather than just turning it off.

For whatever reason on my 4090 system (not the same with my 4070), I find it sharpens the image further out on my system. I'm wondering if it's an Asobo glitch. Feel free to experiment.

Agree, though I'll never turn clouds off ultra. I see a huge difference in quality

Clouds have also a huge hit on CPU Performance, so putting this on Ultra can bring your system to struggle even with a RTX 4090 if your CPU is not on the highest level too

Depends on your system and GPU. There are many different configurations out there

In addition to this video I would also adjust traffic settings because they can take a massive hit on performance: kzread.info/dash/bejne/laB7wZqBoLfSd7A.html

I dont understand why youre still running TAA? DLSS on a 4090 is a no brainer.

TAA is MUCH sharper, in fact, I don't understand why you'd use DLSS with a 4090, it's really for less powerful GPU's

RTX 2080ti. Low capability now !! NO Grass and Bushes. LOW on all other scenery detail. Range of view so airfield is visible from 5 miles. Fly by map to 5 miles out. OpenXR Render 70% Thumbs up. Rural Warwickshire, 32 fps.
