Mr Moto's Last Warning |1939 | Crime | Drama | Mystery
A Japanese man claiming to be Mr Moto, of the International Police, is abducted and murdered soon after disembarking from a ship at Port Said in Egypt. The real Mr Moto is already in Port Said, investigating a conspiracy against the British and French governments. The dead man was his colleague, impersonating him to throw the conspirators off his scent. Mr Moto recognises one of the conspirators as a British Secret Service agent, and together they discover that the gang have mined the harbour in preparation for the arrival of the French fleet. Their aim is to throw the blame onto the British, which may start a second World War.

I am not sure if anyone notice but when the George Sanders character gets a message from an Egyptian courier in the hotel cafe it is a playbill for the Saltana Theater. The first listing on the playbill is “Charlie Chan in Honolulu” starring Warner Oland from 20th century Fox. Warner Oland died in Sweden before this film started, It was Sidney Toler’s first film after taking on the Charlie Chan character after Oland’s death. Also Ricardo Cortez was in several Charlie Chan Movies as well including Charlie Chan in Panama, Charlie Chan in Reno and the aforementioned Charlie Chan in Honolulu. Between the Mr. Moro and Chan series they used a stock company that played different parts in numerous Chan and Moro films including Virginia Grant who appeared in at least Chan films.

Also, "Mr. Moto's Gamble" and (supposedly) "Mr. Moto in Danger Island" were originally Charlie Chan movies. Further, "Charlie Chan in Panama" was originally to be a Mr. Moto movie.
Most enjoyable Peter Lorrie was great!
I know it's a public domain print so I'm not complaining exactly, but this movie looks so much better on the Mr. Moto Volume 2 DVD. It just has to be said.
This is a much stronger cast than usual in this series.
Boy that is a young George Sanders.

This was before his part in "Rebecca," too. I also liked his part in "Quiet, Please - Murder." He doesn't have the same characterization here, though.
I absolutely enjoyed this movie and certainly watching Mr. Moto superb actor Play the perfect role in this film has he turned out to be a legend I wonder thank you for sharing Inter-Pathé 👍🏼👍🏼🙋🏼🇨🇦

Moto is Japanese. Luckily this movie was made before Dec 7, 1941 or Moto never would have made it to the big screen.

THE LITTLE GIRL JOAN CAROLL HAD ONLY A SMALL PART IN THIS MOVIE. IN ALL THE MOVIES THE I SEEN OF HER SHE DOESN'T LOOK AS CUTE AS SHE DID IN THE MOVIE 'LADDIE'.

This premiered in January 1939, so the Pearl Harbor Attack wasn't quite here yet. However, this is the 6th of 8 Mr. Moto movies starring Peter Lorre. They were nearing the end of releasing them, the eighth and final one released premiered in June 1939.
