Tom Selleck carried this movie. You can really see that in this scene. His acting is very relaxed and natural. Aya Takanashi was a bit dull for this movie.

Aya was just as magical, she was perfect. Perfect casting to me all around. The entire cast made it special. This to me should’ve been a hit and classic. Far worse movies have become classics in my opinion. I watch some classics really wanting to like them and they feel just ok. This movie is lightning in a bottle for. Comedy masterpiece in my book. But hey, we don’t all like the same beer either 🍻. It’s subjective just like music.

These cut scenes also feel off like a lot of deleted scenes do. Seems to be missing music and the dialogue given to them in these cut scenes is a bit awkward. It’s not the actors’ faults. I wouldn’t even say it’s anybody’s fault. When creating art you make mistakes in order to find that something and cuts are always made, and the good material kept. Painters also often paint over things that didn’t work. You fiddle with it until it works. Same with songwriting. Any art.

I wonder if this was cut from the American version because it ruined the reveal when he finally finds out he's been dating the coaches daughter.

Specially Johnny Mnemonic, the American cut was a complete disaster, while the Japanese cut is a well-edited/extended art-house indie flick!

If you are implying that "Japanese cuts" are better, that's just nonsense and it's not based on facts. Americans make OUTSTANDING movies, whether you are willing to admit it or not.
