Mr. 335 Larry Carlton playing a 1962 Gibson ES-335 at Norman's Rare Guitars
Музыка
A perfect #wednESday with Mr. 335 Larry Carlton. Larry came in with his cousin Steve and our good friend Jim Hodson. Larry is currently living in Nashville, and he's in LA visiting friends and family. We honored to have Larry come into #NormansRareGuitars to talk a little bit about his career, play a little bit for us, and shoot the sh"t! Larry is playing a 1962 Gibson ES-335 with a stop tail piece and PAFs, what do you guys think?

To think that we almost lost Larry in 1988 to a crazed gunman outside of his home studio, "Room 335". Thank God he survived and is still playing beautifully over 30 years after that awful day. Larry, we still love you; thanks for sharing your great talent and soul. The world is a much better place with you in it!

I’m from Lomita California originally like Larry, I never knew that until now. I remember the day he got shot as I was living down the road from him at the time.

Yeh, what was that all about? Some asshole shoots him in the throat! His Left arm paralyzed for a while. He was working on an album at the time...

I've been a fan of Larry's for years but I had no idea he'd been shot, what on earth was that all about ?

I heard he was shot point blank with a 357 magnum. it might have had 38s in it but he's very lucky to survive. I loved his strikes twice album back in the 70s.
I just love Larry's humility. Nice guy.

Those beautiful old Gibsons were built in my hometown, right down the road from me. It's still a very special place and I visit there often
loved hearing Larry play with Fourplay
I loved Larry when he played with The Crusaders, as well as all his solo stuff. Just a legend in guitar world.

Can't decide between his work on Kid Charlemagne and Don't Take Me Alive as my favorite Larry Carlton offering. They're both amazing.
Such a nice chap, and one of the greats, I wish I had one third of his talent.

Travis, Larrys son, is an amazing bass player. Saw him in 2008 playing with his dad at the Jazz Cafe in London.Travelled 600 miles round trip to see that gig and it was worth it.

Saw Larry and his band at the old Chestnut Cabaret in Philadelphia in 1990........He was just...........................awesome as usual
Can you imagine the things you could learn for this man if you had the chance to have a sit down jam with him.
Yeah Mr Larry. If I had a music store I would lose my mind if you came in. As a guitarist I am floored just to see how down to earth you are and your son is amazing -- be proud!!
Just the best So well spoken. He is so kind & humble. Thanks so much.

I too have noticed, Rick Beato did an interview with Mr. Carlton, you can watch it for yourself. We all get old (myself included), hands don't work the same way they did decades ago. It's been said "Getting old is painful and expensive, but still better than the alternative". I can't say enough good things about Mr. Carlton that haven't already been spoken/written, he truly is a gift to us all. Myself, I consider Larry Carlton the Guitar Players Guitarist. May we be Blessed with his music and inspiration for many, many years to come.
Mr. Carlton is an American Treasure ... and so humble. I had the pleasure of seeing him live at the Roxy, here in LA, when he came out with Strikes Twice. I bought his first few albums. The solo and fills on Kid Charlemagne are just the tip of the iceberg regarding what Mr. Carlton can do.
Thank you Larry ... I was lucky enough to see you here in Sydney Australia ,one of the most memorable concerts I've been to. True gentleman and amazing performer.
Great interview and its always a treat to catch LC with a 335 in his hands. Thanks Norman.
One of the greatest ever!! LC is a hero to many of us and it's so great to see him still performing and kicking ass! We're not worthy! Always inspiring Mr.335. 🙌

Great stuff ! Always love visiting Norm and all the cool guitars when I am in the Valley.
One of those handful of guys early on that totally made me wanna play guitar. Great to see you still strumming the git-box Larry. You're a national treasure by now!
Brilliant guitarist, such a wonderful tone and feel.
Larry Carlton s just so beautiful a guitar players big fan since the Crusaders keep on keep that same old feeling

Awesome!!...wish he could have played some more, one of my heroes, his guitar break on Hill Street Blues, genius! 👏🏻😌
I love Normans attitude . Let them play . Play they do .All of them . Guy has a dream job .!!
Larry Carlton has always been such a class act.
Larry seems to be a great guy, reserve fella. I bought his album when it came out, to this day he still amazes me, especially in “point it up” solo, his in he’s own league, everybody else is just a copy of that style, thanks Larry, you’re the man ✌🏻
Man the guitar looks like its brand new! Beautiful
Norm, its great what you have put together over the years, with the store, and guests and video's wish you the best.
that was awesome
Larry Carlton is probably responsible for thousands of guitarist vocations, and his humility honors him ! Monsieur Carlton…
Absolutely million billion trillion dollars worth of class and talent humble as they come and genuine too

I was lucky and got to see The Classics Concert last night at Citifield in NYC. As Larry stated he was filling in. Terrific concert, by The Doobie Bros, Steely Dan, and The Eagles, all were really excellent. Larry made my night playing Kid Charlemagne, the solo note for note, perfection and grace! Thank you!
One of the greatest of all time. Larry's playing on Royal scam is amazing. Seems a really nice bloke too!.
