@Bilal Khalid But MPs all get at least 80 grand a year. (at the time was slightly less as 80 grand is a new thing.) The speaker gets an additional salary on top for their work as a speaker of the house. Yet to become in such a position isn't a day's walk. It is years of parlimentary accorymn and orders.

Warblerab 295 It was to make a point more than anything. The prorogation of Parliament couldn’t take place until Bercow went to the House of Lords to make it official. They were right to put up a fight, what the government has been trying to do is a disgrace to democracy. The Conservative party has been hijacked by a group of far-right populists. The Tories used to be the party of law and order, now they are the party of chaos and disorder.

@@jh5220 From the look of things when Bercow was trying to stand, I'd say BOTH sides in Parliament are parties of chaos and disorder. They were right to argue and debate against the Prorogation, but when it got to point of trying to keep Bercow from standing and both sides pushing and shoving like children on the school yard playground, it crossed the line into absurdity.

When the idea of allowing cameras into the commons to broadcast proceedings were being discussed, many older MP's warned that it would be used to show Parliament in a bad light.

The US Senate needs him. They need some serious butt kicking and lessons in decorum and common sense. They also need to take their oath to the Constitution seriously and represent the people who elected them, not their particular party or their own personal interests like keeping in power and getting re-elected.

Speaker John Bercow is one of the few in that chamber that actually deserves his pay.

I learned a little bit more about this house. And it has some good history. But this is specifically designed to pressure people, to see how a politician can do under pressure. That is why everyone speaks so uniquely. It's supposed to be a 'mad house' to see who can stand it. It's a VERY clever way to do government. (I would fall like a leaf though.)

He is and has done a great job. We will never get another speaker as good as he has been.

I’m perfectly fine with people disagreeing with aspects of the government, But I think condoling acts of terrorism is a bit too far wouldn’t you agree good fellow, hmm?

I'm amazed how much of a shitshow the House of Commons really is. The environment is quite frankly embarrassing to watch at times. As elected members they should have the decency to treat each other nice even though they disagree. Instead there is childlike behaviour that should be completely inappropriate for leading a country.

It was the prorogation of Parliament where the parliamentary session was (unlawfully) suspended. The speaker was summoned to go to the Lords Chamber to listen to the announcement by the Queen. By trying to stop him from standing I think they were trying to make the point that it shouldn't be done.

I want to enjoy my job like he does

God please never stop making these! They're my favorite! 😂

The lady hold/heldt the position and one of those are to call the houses together on behald of the queen for parlament if I am correct and he and most of them followed her to go there its a tradition as befor that they close the door and the person with that position the lady has will knock 3 times saying they called thats if I am correct and it stems from when Charles the 1st stormed the house to arrest some MPs

This is basically the comedy central roast of John Bercow

It was the constant personal comments that John made that made him so unpopular. He was able to deride a fellow colleague publicly and then tell others to shut up whilst he finished his insults. I'm sure he's an honourable gentleman, but the ego and bullyish behaviour is there to be seen. He will not be missed as the Speaker.

Bercow yelling “Ordeeeerrr” is somewhat similar to “Udaahhh”, a common Indonesian word for ‘already’ or ‘enough’. 😂

Foam cushioned with a leather cover. (Been to the houses twice.) never sat down but I’ve touched them. Wouldn’t say they’re luxurious but they’re certainly not church pews.
