We also really REALLY need that "Select All" function in the GRID editor. The "selection marker" is abysmal, try that when your entire screen is filled with notes, you'll hit-and-miss a lot of times, and when the notes becomes so small you need to zoom in forever to actually hit them with the select or "eraser", you'll be screaming for an "Select all" function. Another thing: The Delete button should actually DELETE notes when erasing notes individually. Also - the Delete button should also remove that last note that gets stuck in "draw notes" mode, because as it is now there is no way to exit that mode unless you exit the editor (thats a bug AKAI...*cough*)

@@CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE, definitely. I still might pick one up for studio use, this thing looks awesome otherwise. I'm definitely not the stereotypical target audience (I play mostly prog rock / metal) but I've absolutely loved everything I've heard come out of this thing so far and the interface is really awesome and easy to use. My current board is a Nord Stage 3 and I think this would be a perfect compliment.

A global MIDI *out* mode in the settings is missing. I‘d like to play my MODX (or any other synth) live from the Akai, because the latter has aftertouch. But unlike for MIDI *in*, one has to install a specific track to send MIDI data. Or do I overlook something?

I think that Akai needs to stop focusing so heavily on R&B and hip-hop and add more rock sounds and drum sets. on top of that, I agree about the search function. They also need a bunch of high-quality sax sounds. They have exactly one sax in the entire keyboard. The next version of this keyboard they make, should have a bare minimum of 8 GB of memory, if not 16. Along with the ability to add more audio tracks. 4 GB just isn’t enough, when you’re working on larger projects. Yes, you could take it over to PC and finish it off… But that completely defeats the purpose of a standalone workstation. I haven’t opened the thing up yet, to see if it’s like most other keyboards and simply a Linux PC inside. If that is the case, memory may be able to be upgraded by the user. Also, they need to add an HDMI output to hook to an external monitor. If they add enough memory and give that monitor support along with third-party plug-ins on the hardware… you wouldn’t need a PC. I’ve been digging deeply into this keyboard and it is an amazing workstation. Especially for the price. Which is about half of some of the major boards out there. They are so close to making this thing almost perfect. But there are a few things holding it back. One of them things is the fact that they rely so heavily on the hip-hop and R&B. if they would open up this keyboard to all music genres, they would be set. The thing is, they don’t really have to do anything other than add sound packs of acoustic guitars, electric guitars, electric bass’, Acoustic drum sets… all high-quality samples of different high-end instruments. And again, a sax pack. I haven’t hooked my USB mixing board up yet to see if I can assign the faders to each sequence track and keep them like that via a save state that loads when the keyboard does. That way I can easily control the volumes of my tracks, even if I’m not on the sequence screen. Also, there is no way to change the metronome intro length… which is horrible, especially if you choose a time Signature above 1/4. The higher you go, the faster it gets. If I’m missing something, please tell me how to change that. Because I’ve tried and I can’t find anything. Again, Akai is so close to perfection. Just a few adjustments and a few software changes and they are there. With the only caveat being the memory limitation. They also need to to make it easier to delete sounds out of memory that you aren’t using. It’s convoluted the way they have it now and doesn’t always work. Other than that, I’m really happy with this keyboard. It is almost everything I want in a workstation, so when I want to get a quick idea… I can. Without having to fire up the PC and all the software that I need to do so. Which is a huge plus.

A sh*t-ton of hype on this keyboard(same thing with Fantom-0)...both have massive amounts of marketing behind them. The Fantom turned out to be a lemon, so I returned it...& although the MPC Key 61 looks promising, I am VERY skeptical...at this price point. Entirely too good to be true, for what it purports to have and do, for just $1,900. In another video, an Akai representative boasts that there is PC desktop sound quality in the MPC Key 61....can't a-n-y-o-n-e define exactly what that entails? Sure....the pianos, e.pianos & synths are impressive....but what about instruments such as e.basses and orchestral sounds? Anywhere near NI Kontakt 6 quality? I desperately need a reason to avoid Native Instruments(entirely too much HD & CPU destruction, install & registration issues and NI's support SUCKS!) The MPC Key 61 seems like a great alternative to PC workstations and overpriced and inadequate Korg workstations( but there must be some deep, dark & sinister drawback with this Akai workstation, for it to offer so much at so little a price??)

The downside of the MPC Keys for many is the learning curve and working around certain limitations. If you are familiar with a DAW many don’t want to learn something new to do the same thing. It’s hard to beat a computer’s power but there is also great power in creative limitations…(video coming soon ;)

@@CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE My transition from hardware workstations to a PC DAW 15 years ago, was a brutal learning curve...but I got through it. By comparison...there is no downside to learning your way through the MPC, as it's a cakewalk(as supposed to wrapping one's head around all of the installation, compatibility & trouble-shooting issues of PC software.) To my eyes, the MPC Key 61 seems wonderfully intuitive. Yes...necessity is the other of invention and amazing things can happen when you improvise( but why on earth, would Akai severely limit the MPC with only 4GB of RAM(with no disc streaming?) I understand they are trying to remain within a certain production budget, but how expensive would it have been to offer the MPC user with an available RAM upgrade option? I know RAM is very expensive these days, but the user being the one purchasing the RAM is on them, not Akai.

If you own more than 1 MPC controller/standalone, you will only be able to use 1 device at a time over USB. MPC software has NO MULTI-CONTROLLER SUPPORT for standalone MPCs! I Currently own the MPC X and the MPC KEY61. Both Controllers are very nice, this is what is so frustrating. I called akai pro, Nobody could explain why they don't support multiple MPC controllers within MPC software, or the VSTi While there is Ableton Link, its just not the same as the USB connection and 32 virtual tracks through a single USB cable. Instead of virtual channels through USB, you must use your network connection to LINK with Ableton and utilize the MPC hardware audio outputs. Luckily we have 32x8 mixing console. Limitations are: *only 8 plugin tracks available. *In my case, having 2 MPCs is forcing me to change up my workflow to accommodate AKAI's laziness! Just charge more for an additional VSTi plugin so we can use more than 1 MPC within our workflows. * This is not a full sized piano, so big hands might have to squeeze. In closing, this appears to be a fantastic addition to the MPC family. I cant seem to find myself returning it despite my current situation. Happy Beat making, Dj IBM

On all MPCs there is an arpeggiator, when you go into note repeat, and look at the bottom of the main screen on the right it should say ARP. When you click on there it will allow you to activate the Arp, change the time divisions and go through a couple of different art patterns. I hope that helps
