    A solution I found for sample selection headaches is to play a track I like and select samples that I think could work in that track. In the end I have a kit that works!

    Great video and channel. The side-stick you are thinking about is called a grace-note/s. Little intricate rolls, single hits or drags played on the snare quietly. Side stick is where you hold one stick on to the snare head and the other stick is used to play the other stick, so you get the wood sound from the sticks and a bit of volume from the drum resonance and snare.

    Yes I usually refer to the 16th note snares as ghost notes. I do most of my videos on the fly so I occasionally use incorrect terms. I think I’ve even referred to them as paradiddles before too 🧐

    Totally cracked me up with that (sort of) Wilhelm scream "when you pull(ed) your finger off" And damn! Already the few tutorials/walkthroughs for the MPC from you, were every time/consistently the best I could find on the subject I was looking for answers for. Now I find out you're a sucker for D'nB/Jungle, like me. And why I even took to learning to use this amazing MPC thingy.. This part one of the serie has me for the better part of it completely torn between "I need to finish this video first, hold... hold.." - and "fuck yeah, I need to fire that thing up and get to work". And that's after almost two months of feverishly grinding it out with that thing, exploring and learning, now for days on end finding myself in a terrible rut, not getting anywhere with anything. Boy how things can come around! So a big thank you Tubedigga!

    Dude, I bought an MPC Live 2 a couple weeks ago without having any idea how to make beats; just knew I wanted to learn and really dig the portability of the Live 2. However, it didn’t take long to realize I was in over my head. This video was awesome and has convinced me to purchase your Akai MPC MasterClass. Only question I have though; do the videos go into step by step detail for the beginner?

    I'm in the market to get the MPC Key 6, How different might the work flow I'm seeing here in this video be, compared to the MPC Key, or are they more or less the same? Also the overall parameter tweaking on here, will this be the same on the newer MPC Key, or might the key lack some the abilities you're demonstrating here?

    I don’t think Goldie did, as far as I know he had his vision and mostly directed engineers and producers and I imagine most of them used computers. Possibly Dillinja but I’ve never heard that he was an MPC user. I think Roni Size or Krust may have used an MPC back in the day and others but I don’t know who exactly.

  • @robertbrown1778
    @robertbrown17783 жыл бұрын

    I think what you probably meant by little snare rolls when talking about side sticks are "ghost"/"grace" notes. Regarding the MPC as a daw, is there any significant recording latency - e.g. if recording a guitar whilst listening to playback. I don't mean from onboard effects processing which would be an issue with 'puter daw plugins anyway, but just recording the output from a guitar Amp sim into audio-in? I've always wanted one of these boxes - even before I knew what they did - and would like to escape the computer and mouse. Your one sequence workflow vid was very enticing. :)

  • @TUBEDIGGA

    @TUBEDIGGA

    3 жыл бұрын

    Robert Brown Yes you’re right they’re ghost notes where the stick is bouncing off the skin, I’ve got in to a bad habit of calling them rolls, side sticks and even paradiddles! Not good! Regarding latency, no significant difference as far as I’ve experienced.

    I already have a Masterclass available and although it contains some great information, it also needs updating. I do this free for any existing customers, so what you get now will only increase over time. I am holding off until 3.0 because I don’t want to make a load of content and it end up being outdated soon after. But as said the current course has plenty of useful material and I’ll have to increase the current price at some point.

    @@TUBEDIGGA I appreciate the reply. I have already purchased one of your single course lessons, and plan on getting the full masterclass version soon. It makes sense to hold off until 3.0. Either way, this tutorial has tons of information as it is, so I’m glad you’ve left it up as I’m now comfortable enough to follow along through the whole thing. Thanks again!

    Hey Meister Tdigga… so I’ve followed your amen master class… which is the first time I’ve edited a break like that before… how do I layer breaks without introducing phase issues? Probably a stupid question… I’ve used the mpc for a long old while but have only ever used 1 sequence one drum prog and just made lots of tracks to then use the pad mutes to then record segments to a daw… I know insert eye roll emoji here… I still get span out by the multiple programs thing…. I don’t want to use key groups or internal midi… any tips would be greatly accepted or what tutorials I should follow… nhs work payed for your tutorials so you’ll know who I am…. Hope you are most splendid dude… also I’m equally span out by the filing system… I just create an entire new tune each time I switch on so don’t have a filing system of banks of sounds… complete Luddite 🤦‍♂️

  • @TUBEDIGGA

    @TUBEDIGGA

    4 ай бұрын

    If layering two different breaks, to completely avoid phase issues it’s best to chop both breaks into the smallest size possible (usually/ideally 16th notes to include ghost notes/kicks/snares/rolls) and reconstruct them on the grid. That way you know they will both line up. If you don’t, there’s more chance they won’t perfectly line up due to small timing inconsistencies. If layering two or more of the same break, you’ll only get phase issues (as in phasing) if they are exactly the same pitch. So it depends on if you mean phase as in out of sync/misalignment or phasing as in two identical breaks creating that ‘phaser’ type of effect.

I'm sat here completely comfortable that I can still make good tunes regardless of whether someone else can. I'm not intimidated by other producers and I'm not concerned with what they do, only what I can. And that's not ignorance, it's self confidence. I've shown some much better techniques in other videos and have no qualms about other people using them, they aren't me and the net result of them using my techniques doesn't make me concerned that I'll be surpassed somehow.
