Born in Budapest in 1914, a few weeks before the outbreak of the First World War, Annie Fischer made her debut as a child prodigy at the age of 8 playing Beethoven's First Piano Concerto. She entered the Franz Liszt Conservatory in Budapest at the age of 12, where she studied with Ernö Dohnányi, among others. In 1933, at the age of 19, she won the first Franz Liszt Competition in Budapest, which launched her European career. Of Jewish origin, she fled to Sweden during the Second World War with her husband, the critic Aladar Toth. They returned to Hungary after the war. Annie Fischer plays under the direction of conductors such as Otto Klemperer, George Szell, Ferenc Fricsay or Wolfgang Sawallisch.. She is an extraordinary, charismatic personality, who gives a spiritual dimension to her interpretations and arouses the admiration of all. In particular, his interpretation of Mozart's six Piano Concertos is the pearl of a heritage to be cherished.

No 24 K491 is probably the most unique and special among all Mozart's piano concertos. It features the largest array of instruments we can find in all of his previous and following production, and for the first time we can hear oboes and clarinets playing together in order to reach more nuanced and intermediate sonorities. The final allegretto, composed in the form of variations, surpasses the old clichés of an entertaining style to gradually become more and more tragic as we approach the end, played in a disconsolate, melancholic C minor. Brahms and Beethoven were among the biggest admirers of this essential masterpiece, while the musicologist Arthur Hutchings declared it to be "taken as a whole, the greatest Mozart's piano concerto".

Mozart wrote this out in his spare time just before his premiere of Marriage of Figaro. Are you freaking kidding me? Lol. How is this guy not considered the most talented musician of all time? He was starting to match and do some of Bachs ideas better too. If anyone was going to catch him, it would've been this guy.

Wonderful coupling between pianist and conductor, great sense of drama as suggested by the "minor" tonality and overall good taste.

Maria Grinberg had a big respect to Annie Fischer. She even didn't play at stage some pieces that Annie played and recorded: "I would want to play them exactly like her; so, there is no need to do the same thing for public".

"We can never write something like that" (from Beethoven's letter to Kramer to London). But the only Mozart's concerto played by Beethoven for public, was the Concerto No. 20 in D minor. He even wrote the cadenzas for it.
