As a lawn maintenance division foreman of 10 years, one thing I noticed that he did right when he started cutting, you don’t wanna start the PTO when the mower is all the way revved up, you wanna start and disengage the blades around 50% throttle. When starting it, leave throttle at 50%, turn on the blades, then slowly increase throttle till it’s at max. When disengaging the blades, slowly lower the throttle to 50% allow the blades to so down then shut them off completely. You’re doing a lot more wear and tear on the PTO if you are starting and stopping the blades at 100% throttle.
