    Good chat mate - back in 2001 at the age of 33 I moved to Qld from Melbourne and instantly my health and general happiness improved . I stayed there for most of the next 15 yrs . For sure don’t be afraid to move & give something a try . Always lots to consider , money & income & the right place for oneself , but it’s not easy & accept that there will be challenges . Nice work Rick

I'd have the Thai family come visit you and the babies. Like you said, they're going to be walking soon and you want to keep them safe. I'm sure you miss them like crazy living apart!!! My dad waited until retirement. He retired with plates in his back from a botched back surgery. He told me don't wait and leave now. The rate race isn't worth the pay off for the majority of people because most won't even play the game how it is supposed to be played. Go now and enjoy your life. You aren't even guaranteed old age. Just be smart about the moves you make.

    Interesting question, I hear people here say "I'll retire in Thailand" but they haven't done their maths yet. Off subject a bit though, what you had for lunch is perfect for the twins as well, mush the rice a bit, put a slash of the soup in and tiny pieces of chicken, or add some hard boiled egg. Follow with pieces of fruit they can hold in their hands. DONE DINNER!! Introduce each new ingredient over a couple of days before going to the next to check for allergies ❣❣❣

    Exactly marg. Lots of KZreadrs in Thailand highlight the cheap cost of living, but not ALL things are cheap and you must have plenty of funds in the bank, must have enough to support yourself for long term, and have something in reserve if you need to return as Ricky mentions. You cannot just return to Australia and automatically be eligible for healthcare, pension, etc

    Depends where they want to stay…tourist area or rural? Drinker or social drinker? Superannuation balance? Cash to start adventure to last until can tap super? Expectations? Selling property? So many things to consider. I want to live in Bali but I would try for 3-6 months initially before I sold everything and moved there.

    Hey Rick, you Super will continue to grow in Australia but very slowly if you're not contributing to it. It won't go backwards. Most Super funds show an average of around 6% over a 30 year period. Something to look forward to at 67 years of age 😢. If you contribute a little each year it will compound the growth a little, good luck ✌️

  • @seekhearts
    @seekhearts20 күн бұрын

    your superannuation should be providing a return yearly with however its being invested by your managing fund, mine averages 6% per year, excluding fees and my employers contributions. should check it out. you can touch it at 60 or under certain circumstances you may draw some early. i would try not to touch it beforehand, but you can adjust what insurances and fees are being provided. you will be taxed on any super you do withdraw early as personal income, but because you are a foreign tax resident, you arent eligible for the tax free threshold, so you will be taxed around 30% of it.

    Hey Rick great video, must be good timing because your family friend sounds like he's in the same situation as me in regards to moving to Thailand and your fears for him are the same as mine. I'll admit the thought of leaving Oz to live full time in Thailand and it all going bad and having to return here and start again scares the shit out of me. I'm back in Oz now after almost 4 weeks there and after 2 days I already miss Thailand. By the way I figured out what happened to my membership, my bank saw a dodgy facebook purchase (card scammed in Thailand) and froze my card for on-line transactions. Will re-join when new card arrives, hopefully I will regain my old membership status?

    Don’t forget Ricky when you talk about a Australian aged pension, if you lived in Thailand to the age of 67, you will not qualify for it at all. You need to spend 35 years in Australia as a tax resident when you are over the age of 67 to qualify for the full aged pension. Then also at the moment you need to be present in Australia for 2 years before you apply for it, or 2 years after it is granted to make the aged pension portable.
