Moving to Tampa Florida (2023): What You NEED To Know Before Living in Tampa Florida

If you are Moving to Tampa Florida in 2023, this video is a much watch for you! With Tampa's recent growth, I wanted to fill you in on what you need to know before living in Tampa Florida.
Over the past week I was actually looking for data that would tell me where everyone was moving from and to in 2023 and I stumbled across an article that Forbes put out naming Tampa as the #1 best place to live in Florida. I continued down that rabbit hole and later came across an article by TIME ranking Tampa as one of the greatest places in the World in 2023. Not the state, not the country, but in the world and so its my duty to share with you an update about what’s going on in 2023. Let’s dive into why Tampa’s location is prime, housing, the lifestyle here and why people are wanting to move to Tampa Florida in 2023. So stay tuned.
If you are thinking of moving to Tampa and want to discuss neighborhoods, home options or when might be the right time for you to buy a home, reach out to my team and we would be glad to help!

Honest opinion: Tampa is okay. That’s it. Once you get over the initial touristy things to do, it’s nothing new. Been down here thirteen years and outside of the Riverwalk, some breweries and countless new restaurants that come and go, there is nothing to do. Ikea is packed on the weekends when it’s hot because it’s just not enough to do on a super hot day besides shop or eat. Hardly any decent museums. If your used to good shopping and edgy style and fashion like up north or LA, this is not your place. Pinellas doesnt offer much either including St Pete. It’s just okay. The only reason Tampa has gotten the hype it has is because of Tom Brady and this massive push for tourism on social media. I see people come down all the time and it’s cool the first year, but after that, it’s like meh. I personally enjoy the Orlando Metro area better as they have more eclectic neighborhoods with things to do and with more of an identity. Ybor and South Tampa is all you have and even they still have a way to go. Jobs overall do not pay well. So if you lose your cushy job you came down here with or are remote, the chances are you will not be able to replace it quickly and may have to move because there are not a lot of corporations based here. It’s more like small satellite offices. And unemployment max is $275 a WEEK, and the max claim per YEAR is $3800. That’s it. Lastly, people move down here for the beaches but don’t understand that if you choose places like Wesley Chapel or Lutz, etc., that’s 1.5 hr trip to the beaches one way. I don’t really bother to go anymore because I can’t stand having to navigate through the massive amounts of tourist or traffic downtown both ways. Just want to give REAL perspective to people considering it.

Agreed... mostly. It's just so hot & the beach hardly relieves the heat, even in the water. I've been here my whole life, have lived in & visited a few other states. Needless to say, I can't seem to leave Tampa. It's getting overly crowded, which helps with money flow, and hurts with finding jobs, as mentioned. This video certainly isn't going to make people want to stay away from Tampa lol. Good luck finding a reasonably priced place to live!

Could not agree more ! I’ve lived here for about 7-8 years. It’s boring af! The only good things here is just Florida beach life. The only way to continuously enjoy the Tampa area is if a person has a lot of money to continue to pay for new experiences

Unless you have a boat, there ain’t nothing to do. Yes you can kayak or sup or walk on a beach if you can stand the traffic getting there, then you have to pay to park if you can find a spot. I find the Pinellas (bike) Trail full of street crossings; Denver metro trails spoiled me, ahh! I’m only here because of affordability in 2019, but now, forget it! I am stuck in my sh1tty condo 25 minutes from the beach. It’s a lose lose situation. If you live near the beach your flood insurance will kill you, further from the beach, the traffic will. Debating whether to sell high now and get a small rv and wait till prices drop and buy in NC mountains 🧐

My brother moved to Tampa in 2012. I was still stuck in Ohio. I couldn’t WAIT to move to Tampa. As much as I hate snow and cold I was desperate to get out. I was even jealous of the homeless people in Tampa. We finally moved to Tampa in 2017 and I couldn’t be any happier. This city is the BOMB! Never bored and there’s ALWAYS something to do. Comedy shows, concerts, beaches, clubs, casino, museums, aquarium, zoo and amusement parks. It’s nearly endless. Everything is here. We mainly moved for the weather. Nothing beats an 85° day in the middle of fall and spring. Best thing about living here is I don’t need an ice scraper nor do I need to shovel heat. Driving with the top down is the BEST and I find it “criminal” to drive around on a cloudless sunny day with 80° temps and all windows up. Waste of an enjoyable drive. And if someone is living in Tampa and they are bored then the problem is with them, not the city.

So long story short I've been to so many states throughout the world but I always have bounce back to my homework. Thanks for the pep talk. You said the big key word here, "affordable". I gave up trying to find an affordable yet livable house in the Tampa area. I bet more people than not are like me; we can't afford the affordable 300K home. I can only go as high as 150K because that's what I can get out of my house. Maybe 175K but that's pushing it. Unless there is a hidden area 30-60 minutes away from Tampa. I can give it one more try maybe I'll get lucky. And don't forget the cost of living and ammenities.

Unfortunately $150k for a single family home is well under the average home price now. Average home price would be closer to $400k. Don't forget to mention that very important point.😳 Florida is most def not affordable anywhere. Not affordable anymore and it is being flooded by the kind of people most people move to get away from. It means great pizza (every other person you run into in a NY refugee) but also a lot of traffic, every patch of ground being developed into an HOA, and condos and houses so thick that there is no view of the water anymore. It's not Florida anymore. What it is turning into, we'll see.

As a native Floridian, I'm here to tell y'all that Tampa IS NOT what it used to be, and is overrated at this point. Too many people from the northeast (mainly NY) have contaminated this city heavily over the last 10 to 12 years. Unfortunately, that influx has brought a NASTY attitude and culture that is foreign to Florida altogether (we can tell most of the time they're not from here). Florida is a southern state and originally an agricultural state; it was until 10 years ago the annual GDP dominator became tourism; before that it was agriculture (cattle, citrus, sugar cane, etc.). This is nothing but an overrated tourist trap with horrible traffic, outrageous insurance rates and home prices. Sad to see this beautiful state get destroyed.

I've lived here in tampa 35 years. It has SERIOUSLY gotten worse in many different ways. Traffic being one of the biggest besides all the criminals moving here to rob you or something worse because hey... people in Florida must have cash, expensive homes and beaches, sounds enticing to criminals to people. It is WAY over packed even in stores, it's so hot that people are more angry than normal, your not going to move here and become some star or millionaire, the sidewalks do not glitter with beauty, its littered with homeless people and trash because people do not know how to clean up after themselves. The weather is NOT always great.. usually storms pretty bad every summer afternoon... a hurricane can wipe everything you own out or kill you. Jobs don't pay an extra 10 per hour at fast food like you have been lied to lol... please stay outta Florida. Stat where you're roots are. The traffic alone will make you regret moving here... trust me people this place isn't as great as it is made out to be... look up the bad side of Florida videos, I bet they will change your mind. Don't be fooled people. Stay safe, take care everyone!

@@TampaFloridaLiving yes sir, don't get me wrong it can be beautiful and there are a lot of perks but nobody are telling these people that they're tearing up alot of beautiful Florida acreage. I have watched so many people move here at a alarming rate in numbers and those numbers are people, and people need houses, grocery stores etc. And the stores and houses are not enough and there's no more place other than building more space, tearing up stuff. Plus they are building these new homes over swamp land. Needless to say after a year or 2 the ground settles and large cracks in your house appear. Also, good luck affording sink hole insurance lol, that's a whole another animal though. Insurance here is RIDICULOUS! I'm just giving anyone who reads this my opinion. Just giving people a heads up on the downside of things.

1 bedroom 500sqft apartment 1500 a month. 3 bedroom house 2800. The cheaper houses start at 365,000 if you don't want to move to the hood. Most businesses still only pay $8.25 an hour even lawyers offices working as a clerk you can only make about 28k a year. New construction has basically stopped. Any new construction is going to be extremely slow for now on and extremely expensive. Used houses will basically be the only viable option which doesn't bode very well when you have people buying up houses and turning them into air bnb and corporations buying up houses and turning them into rental.

In fact most of the days between December and February there are days when the lows are in the 30’s and 40’s. If you consider that hot go ahead and lay on the beach in a bikini the next time those temps come around. Secondly, I’ve been in Tampa over six years and still never saw ONE alligator….EVER! I doubt that they even exist in Tampa.

I've lived in Tampa off and on since the segregated Jim Crow 1960's. It's a big metropolitan area with all the problems and expenses of any urban center, minus the cultural/artistic richness. Thank God for our fairly sane Democratic leadership. Of course there are the gorgeous Gulf Coast beaches, if you can hack the parking. Better than most places in the Deep South, other than the annual devastating hurricane panic and Desantis's fascist attack on all state schools.

Mild weather year round.... WHAT ???? JUNE THROUGH SEPTEMBER ya can't go out during the day due to heat...high pressure domes pressur heat and Sahara dust on top of that.. it's unbearable in Florida till October folks. Hurricanes are a bitch...and there coming. House insurance is freakin high and going higher. Car insurance is high too. Many reasons to stay out of Florida only people who like it are corporate concerns who are getting high tax breaks and incentives and power expenses covered by the state programs... that's it. People working for these corporations can move with them to save there jobs...there like hostages. Just think twice b4 u do it... ask lots of questions.

You forgot to mention -- out of control property insurance increases. More insurance companies leaving because Republicans in Tally can't figure out how to fix it. The Insurance company of last resort is about to make prices skyrocket. I-4 is convenient getting to The Parks near Orlando -- but it's also the most dangerous interstate in America. Our beaches have red tide half the time because of excessive runoff and extreme heat. Car insurance is outrageous because tampa has some of the worst drivers in the state. We have terrible schools Because Republicans have destroyed education. The state is infested with drugs. The Climate is changing rapidly - But hey -- Tampa is great otherwise. You might just have to live on the streets -- or rent an 850 sq ft condo for 2K+ a month - Oh, I forgot to mention out of control electricity prices. TECO will rip you off in a heartbeat. Better not have a pool -- they are nice, sure -- but wait til that bill comes. Tamps is great.. I love it. More than half my 6 figure paycheck goes to barely surviving. But sure -- great place.

These articles are HEAVILY misleading. Housing is NOT good, seems like everyday insurers are leaving the state. We pay the highest amount of tax in the US. DeSantis is doing the best he can to tank the economy, setting policies in place to wreck hospitality jobs. Prices have sky rocketed beyond reason. Apartments are insanely priced and continues to climb. Red tide is increasingly becoming an issue. There are many MANY other issues.
