I had a house on 36th street in an older neighborhood near the grass farm that later was acquired by Intel . I liked the big lots and sandy soil. On a cold winter day, I thought the area, with all the sage brush, dry grass and snow was beautiful, like a watercolor painting. The view of the Sandia mountains was also amazing.

When I first moved to NM, I lived in Albuquerque and fail in love with the area. Now I live in the sister city of Rio Rancho. I love it even more than ABQ now. The climate, the views, the cost of living, and the shopping areas are part of the reasons I live here now. If I need to visit for any reason ABQ, it is right next door! There is so much to do and see in this area and I am never bored~

That is nothing fancy, but eat eat well. We do eat leftovers for lunches. We eat out every other Wednesday evening or for a birthday. I think it is cheaper that Texas. I bought a plot in Rio Rancho, still haven't made it out there yet to check out what I bought. I listened to your video while I was watching television but I didn't hear you say anything about folks buying off the grid?!! Why not? You need to do another video about that, if you haven't already. I can't afford a $300,00 house, hell to be honest, I can't afford a $100,000 house but I can afford $1,400 for a plot and I'll figure it out from there. Where I grew up, we had straw bale houses, round houses, etc. So I'm not afraid of the unusual. Currently, I'm still in the midwest in a trailer with no insulation, no water, no toilet, so I'm getting my training at being off grid. We have heat in one room. I'm sick living with a roommate who just lost a job & is depending on me to do everything...Um, Nahhhhhhh, I'm going to start buying plastic totes to pack up what I've managed to hold on to. The company I gig with IS in that area so, who knows, if I wind up there...I'm sure I can make it work!!! Just having my OWN PAID for land is a miracle that I will NEVER regret!!!

It's such a pain to lot in & out!!! Currently, we're living in a trailer with 1.) No insulation, 2.) Leaks, 3.) No toilet, 4.) No running water! I had no place to go, was in the process of losing my apartment with my dog, cat & solitary fish! So we moved into the trailer with R. A.!!! We're trying to piece it together! Whenever I see a Target or Starbucks in Rio Rancho, I think I'm THERE!!!!! I grew up in a town of like 4,000 people!! Not even a town, they classify it as a Village!!! I have a special connection to the land since we never got our "40 Acres and a Mule," so I'm buying my own!!! I can give folks some tips on buying land like this! I need to get my channel going! I'm not as, slick or technical as you are! I believe in turning the camera on & going! Thanks so much for your attention in all of this! I did say to the Universe, "I want to live off the grid!!!" I have my wish, now I want 888 Billion dollars by next year!!! I'm working on it hahah!!! R. If I were looking for a place to live, I would skip the entire Albuquerque Metro area, which Rio Rancho IS a part of. If you live in RR, you find yourself in ALbuquerque all the time for the sake of shopping, doctors, so on. The two are seamlessly connected except for one direction, the North end which goes onto the freeway. We thought it such a safe place and my husband was horrifically murdered by a stranger in 2016. Happened in Bernalillo. His name was Richard Wall, Jr. It was called a 'road rage' murder even though only one person took the beating, that was Richard and his car broke down. I wish I'd never ever come here.

My deepest condolences!!! I bought land in Rio Rancho because it is the only place I could afford to pay cash! I haven't been there yet. Was your husband murdered in Albuquerque or Rio Rancho? My impression of Rio Rancho is I will NEED to purchase a gun & arm myself! I am used to living in the country and am off the grid now! I just want PEACE and quiet and to be left alone! I am living with a person who has had a gun pulled on them twice but I feel THEY are to blame...sorry I'm not saying this is the case for your dear husband. This roommate of mine has a hair trigger temper!!! The FIRST time the gun was pulled or at least the handle, the clerk at the gas station told him, "You see what I have here." Idiot, roommate was standing outside of my car & I was in the car!!! I told him I wish the dude would have shot & got me in the head!!! Life is so hard and I'm all alone!!! I can't afford $300,000 homes in the town where I grew up and I can't bare to live in subsidized housing ever again! I will figure something out, I believe. I won't know until I go there but I can tell you, being able to OWN a plot of land where I can just breathe is worth it to me!!! I am a delivery driver and routinely, we hear "dead body found on X street" and I think, "wow, I just delivered to X street." So I hate to say it but crime is everywhere!!! Again, please don't take what I say as any indication of blame to anyone but the person who murdered your husband. I hope you are feeling better!! I believe I will NEVER FIND a husband!!! I know I won't. Not if I continue to live where I live now.

I grew up in a small college town! The house my parents bought got sold during the divorce!!! I lived in an apartment until I bought an "affordable" house from a company that stole it back from me and gave me NO equity when I had $50,000 worth in it! My little plot in Rio Rancho is MINE all MINE!!! I feel like Scarlett O'Hara!!! I don't give a darn about most things but I NEED to OWN my OWN land!!! I don't do well with apartments!!! I'm off the grid, no toilet, no insulation, there is electricity in one room but it's so cold!!! I guess we will always have the very rich and the very poor! From my experiences with Rio Rancho, I can only say that it was most likely designed by someone who was playing SimCity for the first time, i.e. they got too excited too early about growing the city before they could definitively establish a solid core, and now they’re spread too thin and bankrupt. Cases in point: #1 The state-of-the-art city center, with city hall and the entertainment complex, is far from any built-up part of the city, and in this case, by “built up,” I mean places with any buildings at all. #2 Towards the edge of the city, there are many “upscale” residential subdivisions. The reason I put “upscale” in quotes is because the subdivisions contain many large expensive homes, but the city cannot afford to pave the streets in those neighborhoods.

Having grown up in Albuquerque I have to say I would not mind living in Rio Rancho at all. Yes the commutes is further and it is a lot smaller but the crime is definitely lower. Prime can indeed happen anywhere though and you can expect crime from Albuquerque to spill over into its adjacent suburbs. A lot of people from back east moved to Rio Rancho. I specifically bought a house in Albuquerque over Rio Rancho because Rio Rancho reminds me way too much of the LA area bedroom community I grew up in. I'm not going to back to that life. Here's the thing, the bedroom community I grew up also started out nice and shiny but as LA and the inner burbs started gentrifying like crazy, the town suddenly became a lot less nicer as the years passed by with LA basically pushing out financially its more...lets just say troublesome population to the more affordable outlying suburbs of LA county. I've only been in ABQ for a little over a year but I can already see that trend just starting here. The real estate market in Albuquerque is insane, this town is well on the path to long term gentrification.

The crime rate tends to be low, compared to Abq. and other cities, though I believe it is also fairly low. We live in an older neighborhood with 1/4 acre lots, a variety of home designs and a lovely, paved walking trail with gorgeous views. It was just our dumb luck, but we love it here. ALSO, the summer flash floods in Rio Rancho ARE a force to be reckoned with. They happen instantaneously. One can be out for a walk one evening in the summer and suddenly they have to flee to a stranger's porch. Happened to my sons more than once.

Biggest negative as a homeowner in Rio Rancho would be that the water quality is pretty poor (**i.e. really hard water). Otherwise, it's generally considered safer than Albuquerque and public schools are generally better than Albuquerque Public schools.
