As a life long Norfolk resident , born here in 1951 , my little piece of advice is to not situate yourself so as to have one of the area's tunnels between where you work and where you reside . Hear me now , believe me later .

This Life In Hampton Roads Virginia KZread feature of Moving To Norfolk Virginia has some fascinating references. I am lucky to have already lived here for at least over 30 months now and I intend on living here for the rest of my life and I still obtained a significant amount of beneficial data from this video.

The tunnel... I still remember driving through it :D I'm so excited to move here! That's all I can think about right now lol.

The weather here is crazy even in the winter time some days we might get 70 degree weather and in the summer be prepared to sweat from the humidity

This was a useful video as I sit comfortably far away looking for relocation info that I can actual use for a decision. The climate is much less extreme than Fl or Ny , seems a decent compromise. (Thumbs up and a Subscribe ) I would be interested in live aboard marinas or free mooring areas that have close grocery store access. ~ Have a great weekend. Thank you.

As someone who used to live in Florida it’s definitely less extreme, however it still gets sweltering in the summer. Thanks for checking this video out and I’m glad you found it helpful!
Norfolk is land locked by Virginia Beach and Elizabeth River and inland water ways. And there is no room to expand roads and routes within the city. As a result streets are narrow and bound to stay that way. They keep adding houses and apartments. More people, more traffic more crime.
@LifeinHamptonRoadsVA
Жыл бұрын
Agree on adding all the apartments for sure.
Remember you have the shipyard in Norfolk you have the shipyard that goes to Portsmith you have the NOB that’s why all the traffic is bad there’s three shipyards in Norfolk
@LifeinHamptonRoadsVA
Жыл бұрын
Yeah those shipyards bring a lot of jobs to the area, funny how the Norfolk shipyard is actually across the Elizabeth River in Portsmouth
I'm moving to Norfolk in December, 56 minutes a year in traffic isn't much, that breaks down to a little over an minute a week, Hampton Roads has a population of 1.8 million, compared to metro's of the same size like St. Louis where I'm from and currently living, has the average of 147 minutes per year or Memphis 96 minutes, or Albuquerque's 84 minutes..... 56 minutes isn't bad

Overall, Virginia Beach definitely is the more expensive city in our area, however, you still can find some decent priced houses in Virginia Beach. I’ve done a lot of different videos on the cities in Hampton Roads if you want to take a look at those to give you more guidance.

Here's a question for everyone in Hampton Roads... If you had an NFL team what would you like for them to be called? If you had an NBA team what would you call them?

Yes, from June to August the weather is unbearable, AND YET you have an open air baseball stadium! I honestly didn't know the Norfolk Tides were a minor league team for the Orioles.

You forgot to mention the Ocean View neighborhood and beaches. From East Beach all the way up to the Fisherman's Pier. This area in my opinion is far superior than Virginia Beach. Lots of great restaurants and my three favorite ones: Karla's Beach House Restaurant, Lola's Beach Cantina, and The OV Beach Tavern. If you come to visit, please don't trash our beaches and neighborhoods...You would not like me a lot if I come to your house and take a poop in your backyard. 🤣Oh, I forgot to mention COVA Brewing Company.

Not mentioning ocean view was a big miss on my part, I do like Sandbridge more than Oceanview but I agree they are very nice beaches. Thanks for the restaurant suggestions!
How often do you have flooding in Norfolk?

I don’t think it’s necessarily that bad, but there are some difficulties
You pay a hundred dollars real estate tax to live in a 10 cent city. If you like pot holes and bums everywhere this is the city for you.

Not for everyone, but there are some nice areas too
@bradrowe141

The north end neighbors are neglected other than East Beach. I can ride around for ten minutes and identify probably thirty to forty pot holes. The ones they attempt to fix poo out in five to six months. For example in my neighborhood they are supposed to sweep the streets every Thursday but do it about five or six times a year. When they sweep the streets they do it way before the leaves fall, makes a lot of sense.
@LifeinHamptonRoadsVA

Potholes seem to be a problem throughout Hampton Roads, I know where I live in Chesapeake we have many of those issues.
@bradrowe141
3 ай бұрын
The point here is it's not so much about the pot holes but where's the tax revenue money being spent. City hall has raised the assessment every year for the last thirty years without a break. Housing in a lot of neighborhoods are inflated. It's like last year a thief stole my catalytic converter from my vehicle. Call the police and they had an attitude why are you calling us for. Pay a hundred dollars to live in a ten cent city.
@LifeinHamptonRoadsVA

I definitely agree with you in questioning where the money goes. Always seems like our roads and schools come second.
