lived in VA Beach for 28 years then moved to SD CA for the last 12 years. i can't wait to get back to VB. all of these are none issues
I agree with you as Ive lived in the area for over 25 years. Just want to make sure I’m honest with everyone to give the best info. Thanks for checking out the video!
I am a proud son of of the 7 cities. I have lived in all of them but Hampton and Newport News. Chesapeake is where I was raised and now reside in Norfolk. I learned to surf on Damn Neck and fished the Lynnhaven pier my entire childhood. Yes the traffic is bad but you left out the reason why.. We are a VERY transient area with all the military that is here, which means multiple driving styles in a confined space. I do also need to point out 1 flaw. You stated the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel is 20 miles long. that is incorrect it is actually 17.3 miles including the 2 tunnels.
Appreciate the fact check on the bridge, I rounded up, and I included the portion on the Eastern shore when you’re going through the wildlife refuge, either way very long bridge. Thanks for checking out the video and while I’ve lived in the area for 25 years and truly enjoy it. I want to make sure I’m honest with people on stuff they might not like. Have other videos that show great things about the area too.
I lived in Titusville Florida for several years, which is a apart of the The Melbourne/Cocoa Beach metro, it's the #3 tourist spot in the U.S. behind Orlando, which is only 35 miles away btw, and Gulf Shores Alabama, The tourist won't bother me at all. The jet noise won't bother me at all either, Titusville is home to Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center, jets aren't anything compared to have a rocket/shuttle launch where the air is literally shaking, I'm also Retired Army so the military presence is a plus for me.
My father served in the Navy for 25 years, I was actually born in Florida, so I’m very familiar with Titusville. I like you don’t let the jet noise bother me, however, always like to be truthful and honest with my videos about the area that way, everyone gets the most realistic view. Appreciate your service, and if you’re heading up this way, let me know if I can help!
@@LifeinHamptonRoadsVA I understand, I'm glad there's people out there like you who is honest with people, we need more of that.
I'm moving to Norfolk in December, 56 minutes a year in traffic isn't much, that breaks down to a little over an minute a week, Hampton Roads has a population of 1.8 million, compared to metro's of the same size like St. Louis where I'm from and currently living, has the average of 147 minutes per year or Memphis 96 minutes, or Albuquerque's 84 minutes..... 56 minutes isn't bad
Well, I’m glad you can have an optimistic view of it 😜 Good luck with your move and let me know if you have any questions about our area!
@@LifeinHamptonRoadsVA Will do. Were not real sure where in the area we are moving I'm being transfered by work to Virginia Beach so we were looking at the COL in the area and Norfolk is by far the cheapest.
Overall, Virginia Beach definitely is the more expensive city in our area, however, you still can find some decent priced houses in Virginia Beach. I’ve done a lot of different videos on the cities in Hampton Roads if you want to take a look at those to give you more guidance.
@@LifeinHamptonRoadsVA right on I will do that
What are prices ? Why don't restate agents tell you the prices? Home are pretty, but away to close. Please let me know. Have a good day.
Home start in the upper $600s
Please keep the green space. I don't think they will. They will be another Virginia Beach. So sad. Please tell you or anymore what you think Have a good day. 😊
As a Chesapeake resident I couldn't agree more with you, I hope they keep the green space too
The police don't seem to be concerned about the speeding in Ghent commons and no one seems to care
Yeah there are a few neighborhoods like that...
There are none 😢
I don't know, there are some that score good in the rankings. Certainly not as many as other cities in Hampton Roads though.
Are you from California?
No
I enjoy your videos - very informative and fact based
Thank you, I’m glad you got some value out of them.
Appreciate the zumper reference - never heard of it before now.
That was a new resource I found, I thought it had some good info too
Nice video - very informative - I vacationed to Sandbridge while growing up in the Shenandoah Valley - always enjoyed it!
I like going camping in the Shenandoah area as a kid myself
Yeah, these are pretty much everything that I dislike about Virginia Beach. Not really affected by the cost of buying a house because I've never bought one. And if I did, it wouldn't be in Virginia Beach. The only other thing that I dislike about Virginia Beach is too many people
Gators by daughters school nice😂
I actually went to that school many years ago too

Thanks for checking out the video
My wife and I are looking into moving to VA beach in a year or 2 when she’s done school and looking at a community just north of Mt Trashmore and Lake Windsor, how would you rate that area?
I like the Mt Trashmore area as houses are reasonably priced and you are centrally located in Hampton Roads with plenty of shopping around.
@@LifeinHamptonRoadsVA thank you for that insight! Appreciate it
Houses are away to close. Otherwise the houses look nice. What are property taxes a year? Let me know. Have a good day..
Depends on the house, but in Va Beach it's $.99 per $100 of accessed value. So for a $400k house your looking at about $3,960 a year in property taxes
Have you ever even left the area? 72nd...out of 101, so not even in the top half? Come on. Tourism, then stay away from the oceanfront. There's plenty of beaches for locals. And the city is HUGE. Jet noise, give me a break. Unless you live in one of the areas that wasn't supposed to be residential, it's not an issue.
Yes as a military dependent I have lived in many places around the U.S.. Did you watch the whole video where I said Virginia Beach is a great place to live but there are some things that will bother you. I also mentioned that if you want to stay away from the crowds then locals go to Sandbridge. Also Jet Noise is a issue around a good majority of Va Beach, that’s why I show the noise zones. Thanks for watching the video, the area is great as I have lived here for over 25 years but it’s not perfect!
By the way everything is over price. Again that's my opinion. Anyone tell me what you. 😢
LOL, can’t really argue about the price increases
Virginia Beach natives rude and nasty. That's my opinion. Anyone tell me what you think. Have a good day. 😢
I'm sorry you had a bad experience in the city. I've certainly run into rude people, but I have found that most people I meet are overall nice.
No, we are not rude. There aren't as many true locals, a lot of people are from other states that live here. We have a lot of military bases here.
A tidbit I’d like to point out is prepare for open carry, a lotta out-of-staters have been completely put off by this.
That’s a great point for non-locals. Personally I’m not bothered by it but I can totally understand people from outside the area being surprised when they come. Appreciate the tip!
Good, the police don't seem to be concerned about protecting the public
Hell they don't enforce the 15 MPH speed limit in Ghent commons 😢
@@user-by2zl3vk5y Despite looking like a stormtrooper for the past 15 years
Avoid Ghent commons zero traffic enforcement, speeding, and stop sign runners constantly and nothing is being done 😢
We have some of those issues in Chesapeake as well……
Moved an hour and a half away to Virginia Beach last year for a new job; Couldn't deal with it, the cons definitely outweighed the pros, for me. Not used to an urban environment, too many people, jet noise is obnoxious, too much year-round traffic, military transplants can't drive, and are miserably rude. Plus, the company I worked for ended up screwing me over hard. Very happily moved back to the lower Middle Peninsula. Personally, I'd say the only tolerable place in the Hampton Roads region is Gloucester County - anything further past that is awful.
Well that stinks, I’m sorry you had such a bad experience down in Hampton Roads
Which city hss a faster pace Richmond Va or Norfork Richmond is not exactly like Dc but when i visited it reminded me of a little Dc especially downtown where there are tons of row houses to my suprise like Baltimore and Philly.
I would say Norfolk as it has a little more to do and is a larger area, however I agree with you in that Richmond has a nice historic downtown, however Norfolk has something similar too.
@@LifeinHamptonRoadsVA hmmm ok I visited Norfolk but I didn't get to see much I saw all the big ships etc in my opinion very nice city but it didn't have the grit as Richmond did me being from Newark I'm trying to move south but not pass Va and I'm looking for a slower pace but not to slow lol and Richmonds downtown was really nice to my surprise an area called the Fan an Scott's Addition was really upbeat I must come back to Norfolk and explore more.
I like Richmond's downtown as well, some great restaurants there too
Traffic is an issue…but the oceanfront isn’t dangerous! It’s like any other beach town in the summer, it’s full of people. All the festivals wouldn’t be held year after year in VB oceanfront if it were not a safe friendly place.
I totally agree, I personally just like to avoid the crowds

It has become worse every single year. STAY AWAY! The noise is unbearable period! The funny thing is that the Military advised to move the base, as it is unsafe and outgrown itself and the City has moved to close to it for the safety of the citizens and the Pilots. Humidity is insane! and has to be one of the worst places you could live for traffic! Insane construction, traffic jams over and over. And the Ocean Front is going straight to hell. Check out what they do not tell you. Riots, Crime going crazy, gangs growing at the Tourist area and increasing all the time. STAY AWAY!
Man those are some strong opinions 🤣
first off we have not had a riot since 1989. secondly unless your here because of the military , your free to move elsewhere yes?As for Gangs in Va Beach you truly do not know what you are talking about. The early 90s were much worse trust me I speak from experience as I was a part of that life then . I am older and wiser now and my adult children still reside on the ocean front and I can tell you I would rather walk alone at night now then back then
Used to live there & hated it crime is really bad!!!!
Sorry you had a bad experience here, thanks for checking out the video!
They call this town poop city for a reason 😮
I don’t think it’s necessarily that bad, but there are some difficulties
The music is distracting
I will take a look, thanks for the feedback.

50th Anniversary of the Worrell 1000 catamaran RAce
Good article in the Pilot today about the race!
Town Center needs a Las Vegas style bridge with an escalator to cross VB Blvd with. It would make it better and feel bigger. The Lego store opening was a nice addition though!
It would also make it a lot safer too!
4:20 DO NOT WALK on the bike path folks. its annoying for the cyclists. I know from experience.
Very true, great advice!
You certainly have to pay attention to the calendar of events or you'll miss a lot and start complaining that its boring here! But yeah for VB residents. Parking at the oceanfront in the city garages is $3 after 5 pm. So I always wait until then to go to the main boardwalk. Its $3 all day to park at Croatan and Sandbridge. So VB residents should go beaching there during the heat of the day unless you want to pay extra to park at the main oceanfront or First Landing State park which is more like $10. 18:20 Another great thing for VB residents is the recreation center system which is a great deal. Its partially tax payer funded so its only $100 something bucks a year for an individual.
I think the Rec Center is something that isn't talked about enough.
Traffic is not that bad in the 757 something in the water is one event that not only affects Virginia but all seven cities. Traffic would be better if people would put their phone down and concentrate on the road. Also we haven’t a lot of construction going to so that is another factor.
I can’t agree with you on traffic not being bad, come out to Chesapeake if you want to see any everyday including construction. I do agree with you on the phone thing, but not sure there is much hope for that. However, appreciate the feedback and checking out the video!
You are so right about the HRBT!!
The HRBT is brutal, especially now with the construction!
City transportation in Suffolk can get you all over Hampton roads. The statement wasn't accurate.
Not everywhere, I have friends who live in Suffolk and don't have access to transportation where they live. It has gotten better compared to when I lived there 15 years ago.
