Moving To Bangkok, Thailand? Check Out On Nut!!

Here's a few links for my favorite credit cards. I try to check the links often, but let me know if there is a problem. If they change the offer on the card, I may need to update the link. Full disclosure, I get a few airline miles for referring a new customer. You should get the same public offer at no additional cost. Thank you very much.

    Yes Mexico is a top spot to visit. But, after visiting for 50 years, I was ready for a change. This is a change for sure. I love Bangkok. They just loosened the mask requirement here in July. The last phase of the health situation ended here about a year after California. People still want to wear them. Of course they wore them in Asia for decades anyhow.

    Nice tour of On Nut, I have a condo in the slender white complex that you see in the beginning of your video. I like the “local” flavor of On Nut as it really is pretty close to everything. I have excellent internet, the free bus that goes to IKEA is two BTS stops down, and new one is actually being built by the Sukhumvit line. Terminal 21 shopping center is at the Asoke stop. Best Beef and E-San restaurants are right there, just a nice mellow place to be.

    How are you dealing with the heat humidity and climate there? We're in the middle of a crazy heatwave here in SoCal and Baja you may have heard about. As long as I have strong air conditioning when I go to sleep that's all that really matters. If you don't start your day off with good sleep you're not going to have a good productive day nor is it not going to be healthy for your body and mind 😎

    He failed to mention Sukhumvit Soi 79 (Soi Niyom) - which is in-between Century Mall and Sukhumvit Soi 77 (Soi On-Nut) - and is DIRECTLY opposite Sukhumvit Soi 50 (but you cannot drive between those two sois). Soi 79 is only about 500 meters long, ending with a walled-in high-rise neighborhood complex called Sukhumvit Garden City Village (where I have lived since January 2005). Just before you reach SGCV - there is a nice low-rise condo complex called The Room - about 6 floors tall.

    What’s the flooding situation like in On Nut? I’ve seen some videos where Bangkok is getting hit really bad with flooding.

  • @EagerExpat

    @EagerExpat

    Жыл бұрын

    Its not bad. This has been horrible rain and flooding. A 10 year storm season. Last night I needed to meet friends. The cabs know the areas that flood on Sukhumvitt and would rather run up and down a dry street like soi 77. Can't blame them. It rained for 5 hours straight. At 6pm I headed to the train. The only area that flooded was near the entrance to the train. You had to wade through a 20 by 20 one foot puddle. Most locals carry cheap flip flops during the rainy season. Toss the shoes in the backpack and roll up the pants. Other than that I didn't see flooding in my 4 block walk. But with heavy rain for hours, no drain can keep up. On the news the worst area hit is the suburbs. Poor folks live near the canal. Not good if it rises 2 feet. A few unlucky condo garages flood, etc.. But for the most part they designed most areas for heavy rain. The problem is getting around the city the day of a major storm. It drains away in 2 or 3 hours, but it floods as its happening.

    Walk slowly and predictably across the roads. Running across a road in Asia is suicide. Thais will always yield on narrow roads (they are very courteous), but less so on those wider, fast-moving roads as shown in the video, where it's best to wait for a gap then walk briskly.

    @Pi Yes, but that's almost everywhere in Bangkok. Fancy buildings next to old shop houses. I'm in Asoke as I write. Probably the richest area? They still have poor buildings 100 feet away from a rich building. Even the poor buildings have regular people. Prakanong has a slum area, but it's pretty far from OnNut. Plus, it's not unsafe. Just poor people. Compared to many US cities, Bangkok has very little crime.
