    the sinks - because Amsterdam is SO expensive, a lot of people share apartments with roommates, who can also have a partner/relationship. So thats why in some apartments, you'll find sinks in the bedroom. However, those apartments are mostly apartments that are rented to expats. Dutch houses dont NORMALLY have those sinks in the bedroom :)

    Yeah,.. I think many of those places would house a group of students each with their own room. No space for separate bathrooms, but the piping is there for the water of the central heating system, so why not have your own small sink for water to reduce the wear on stairs by people needing some water for coffee. A lot of those places you visited will be renovated with the idea to have many rooms rented out for megabucks.

    Sinks in the bedroom also is a thing because in the past people often used sinks with soap and washing cloths to freshen up in the morning instead of taking a shower

    Hey, love your videos! It's really fascinating how you manage to make moving countries seem so easy haha, it must take a great deal of courage, good planning skills, and some seriously positive mindset. I'm also a bit curious about the language barrier in Amsterdam, do you speak Dutch or do you get by just fine with English?

    Thank you! ❤ definitely not easy, I'm planning to make a video soon about all my moves and what it took in terms of processes etc. There is absolutely no language barrier, it seems that EVERYONE speaks english on a native level! it's actually difficult to learn dutch because dutch people will simply respond to you in perfect english if they hear your struggle haha

- Wikipedia

    Since you saw 18 apartments, would you recommend any agency? Thank you for the video

  • @lenny.winter

    @lenny.winter

    2 жыл бұрын

    From my experience, I wouldn't recommend using an agency! There is a huge demand for apartments and it's a very competitive market that works on a first come first serve basis. So if you want to book a viewing you need to submit a request as early as possible otherwise they're not going to have availability. What worked for me is that I sent viewing requests via Funda every day at around 7AM so I was able to actually get a spot in the viewings. I just don't think an agency would be as quick and diligent as I was with getting those viewings. However, I am extremely proactive and hands on and maybe not everyone is like that lol My experience is from November 2019 tho, I heard the market is much more competitive now so I don't know if now you have to work with an agent to get viewings .Try without one first and see how it goes

    @@lenny.winter I agree with you. Those agencies will cost a lot and will take you to the expensive apartments. They also have lots of customers vying for the same place. If you have the time for it, just find a place online or visit a real estate agent and get them to take yoy to a place they have available right then.

    I used Funda to find apartments, there is a contact form you can fill on each apartment you’re interested in and the letting agency will get back to you to schedule a viewing. I got a place on my own tho, so not sure how to look for a place if you just want to rent a room. I just got a big taxi when moving my stuff since everything I had was packed in suitcases. I think older apartments didn't initially come with showers or bathtubs, so the sinks in the bedrooms. They're still there I guess for if you have to throw-up and can't make it in time to get to the toilet. ;) When I was in Amsterdam, I remember a person walking up to me and saying "If you give me a euro, I won't have to kill you." That's not the way to close the deal with me, if one is looking for a handout." About out-of-control fireworks: Try going to Vancouver, BC during Halloween. I'm unsure how the Halloween fireworks tradition started there, but in the suburbs they're literally blowing-up the city.

    If you're employed it is easy and getting employed at this moment is fairly easy as there are shortages of employees. A lot of Brexit refugee companies have set up shop in the Netherlands, so economy is still growing. As production in the UK has become increasingly uneconomical for most industries the expectation is that it will continue for some years.

    Comically easy to find a place to live? I wouldn't call searching each day, every day, for fourteen days, 'easy'.

  • @Leviajohnson

    @Leviajohnson

    @@PaulaBean hahaha it’s two weeks of searching for a place! That still sounds easy even when you emphasize it like that. Have you never worked at something for two weeks before? How soon do you normally give up on something, like an hour? People plan and work for years to get into the right schools, to put together a wedding or to pay for a medical procedure. But locking down a home in a world-class city should somehow just fall in your lap within minutes of searching apparently
