Moving Citrus Trees Indoors for the Winter

In this video, I'll be moving the citrus trees indoors for the winter. I show you how to kill bugs and larva so you MOVE THE TREES, NOT THE PESTS! I also show how to re-direct the sunlight so that your trees get the sun exposure they need to thrive!

Appreciate the video and the sun reflector as well as the experimental mindset, diffused versus direct-reflect. Great idea. I have a suggestion on repotting, use a clay pot that can wick water away from roots to protect from root rot, for handling roots on citrus plants, try holding the plant in position and then have a partner backfill the pot with some potting mix, stop, add some fertilizer and gently blend in the soil with your fingers, resume back fill up to external zone of the trunk, being really careful not to cover this zone with soil, thus preventing girdling the plant. When you have the potting soil close to the finish level, gently grade the soil with a slight slop downward from plat to edge of pot so water flows towards pot edges, a second protection from root rot. Thank you again for the video.

You could also try some grow lamps for extra light during the day? How is the reflector doing?

First off, nice STL rep! Second, how’s the kumquats work out? I’m in the area as well and this is my first winter with citrus.

Hi. I really enjoyed your video. I’m a Florida gal who relocated to Colorado. I’m having to relearn a lot about when and how to plant also the Suns rays are more intense so def alot to learn. I have picked up a few tricks and one is coconut shell ground and added to soil to starting plants. Plus fish emoluments and coffee grounds but also your left over coffee. Oh my mushroom compost along with worm castings bone meal a little calcium poof all natural lol I miss my childhood when my granny and grandpa planted by the almanacs. The veggies back before we destroyed our soil grew some awesome food. Humans are acting like a caged animals crapping and living in our own filth in lab settings the critter dies what will happen to us if we don’t ALL take an active part in cleaning up our poop pile. I try everyday to fill one garbage bag of trash I collect from trails or lakes, parks, rivers or streams. America is beautiful but it takes us all. Do your part save a turtle from eating and dying on plastic which is now a part of our minerals found in our water and soil. I love my country I served in the Army and I’m not to good to pick up trash or save a critter from fishing line left with hooks on it to impale ducks when the water levels high. We can change the world I CAN make a change Can You?

Citrus grower here. I hate to break it to you but the 6 year old lemon tree that has not produced, is no longer a lemon tree but is all root stock that has taken over which is a trifoliate root stock, hence the leaves in groups of three. It will never produce lemons and its basically not worth your time or space. You could tell that it is no longer a lemon tree if you compare the leaves to your other lemon tree you bought at Lowe's. Hope this helps.

I have a lemon and lime and I’m also in zone 6 on the east coast. I am about to give up on my citrus because scale seems to take over halfway through winter. This is the first I’ve heard of using hydrogen peroxide on the soil. Do you think it’s ok to use it once they plants are already indoors?

Yes. And rubbing alcohol kills scale. I have that problem, too. I even take a wet paper towel and wipe them off when I see them.

Shiney white paint is just as good as tin foil actually better if you let your tin foil get all kinds bumps in it because how it will change the direction of the reflection.

Hand pollinate the orange tree and add some fertalizer for the lemon tree it should flower after that. Could simply need a slight boost

We live in the Midwest, in zone 6, so we have too cold of a winter for tropical plants or trees to be outside. The trees need around 6 hours of sunlight to thrive, but the eaves of our house block the sun from fully shining on the entire tree, that's why I hope the reflector works. 😁 Our kitchen is always so crowded this time of year!
