    We live in Arizona, and today we found a baby quail in our yard. Not quite as big as the 10 day olds you have so he must be younger than that. He was so cute. I could watch them all day.

    The turkey baby certainly looks like a giant next to the quail but he/she certainly isn't a bully. Pretty cool. Will be fun to watch as they grow. The turkey is going to probably grow out of the quails world. Good to have a giant as a friend. The quails must be happy. I'm going to try to make a similar cage our of 1" angle iron. Any reason why you decided on 600 cm deep rather than 500 cm deep. I'm just trying to simplify my cuts. It is an additional 10 cm over 2 m but was there any other reason. I loved your doors. Hoping I can do the same thing. Welding is new to me but you learn by doing. That's my approach. I really enjoy your videos, even the fireside chats. Nothing like a nice fire with a cold beer.

  • @lifeinthailand

    @lifeinthailand

    8 жыл бұрын

    I went with 600mm because that is the depth of my kitchen counter, I also used the same height for the bottom of the cage, I just gad to pick a number and that seemed to work for me, No other reason really. I use the 400mm off cuts to do the ends, 1 piece did both ends so I have some left over. Welding is an experience, But since I bought this little welding machine I have made and fixed a lot of stuff, The more I do the better I get, Still a long way to go though....lol On the doors, I planed to have them opening opposite ways, So when you stand in the middle you can open both doors, Then when I put it together I put them both the same, I wish I had the one on the left opening from the oposite side, Live and learn. Good luck. Burning yourself is a part of the learning process. lol

    You don't have to do anything, you can keep them on the ground but they are very hard to contain and good luck finding the eggs if that is the reason for it, there are endless ways of raising any animal, you just need to do what works for you, I have both birds on the ground and in cages, there are benefits to both.

    it depends on what type of quail you are looking to raise. Texas A&M quail are butcher ready in 8 weeks at usually around 10.5-12 oz dressed. they will lay eggs at 6-7 weeks.

    I can find lots of examples of people doing it, but little regarding its legality. I would guess that any laws that apply to keeping chickens would apply to quail as well, if you cannot find anything specific to quail for your municipality.

    Its normally not a good idea but depends on the size difference and and birds themselves, normally they well fight and the big one can and probably well kill the young ones. Its just because they don't know them and there protecting there home.

    You can't, as he already said most have been bred out of this natural behavior. Buy an incubator and give your quail calcium as she is only eating them to gain nutrition. Grind up some cat food too, they need iron, proteins and fat or their body strips it from themselves to make eggs. Good luck
