QUICK QUESTION JAKE, IF IM TRANSFERING EVERYTHING FROM AN OLD TANK TO A NEW TANK DO I REALLY NEED TO CYCLE I HAVE A 13 GALLON TANK MOVING MY BIO MEDIA WITH MY ROCKS TO A 20 GALLON AND I WANT TO MOVE MY FISH AS WELL !!

@@JeanEstevez No you don't have to re-cycle your aquarium. Just take care to keep your biologicals wet and go light on the feeding for the first couple weeks after the move/transfer

I love VHO LIGHTS BY FAR THE BEST I also think a lot better than T5s. But need a large canopy to hide them since so large

Looking forward to the finish. The sun on the black acrylic combined with the cold temps was probably the last straw. You'll be more happy with a new stand to match the rest of your studio anyways.

That ASM skimmer brings back memories. You guys were tossing that acrylic tank around with ease. I have a 225 glass tank I'm building and I do not think moving it will be anywhere near as easy. Let's hope it goes well.

I purchased a similar sized tank, 3'x3'x18", with that exact same style stand, the stand had crack down the side that formed very similar to yours. The previous owners had slathered a bunch of silicone on the crack but I didn't trust it. I built a classic 2x4 stand with plywood top for much better support.

Hot sun, cold snow and air and acrylic = broken. But your new stand will fit in better with your studio :) and you can make it exactly how you want.

Great vid. Save yourself some grief and learn to weld. You can make really sturdy stands in a snap, then you can put any surround on it you want. Ps, the crack was most likely due to a thermal surge

Probably one of my favorite clips you guys have done. Reminds me of gallery aquatica. You guys should do a maintenance video or feature some of the maintenance companies tanks. Also, how do you not own a truck with that many aquariums? Get a Tacoma!

As someone who does this sort of thing for a living, you’ve got my sympathies. The potential for a job like this to turn into a pear-shaped nightmare is high. At least here in Florida we don’t typically have to worry about freezing temperatures.

Jake, you mentioned not using the VHO lights due to wattage, I am curious how many watts you are using for the lighting on your red sea peninsula (maybe its a waterbox?). I have a giesemann spectra I am putting over a 300 deep dimension and was curious how much wattage I could really save by going with LED. SPS heavy.

Nah the fish hadn't been fed for a couple days prior to the move but even a few fish in the same bucket will not increase the ammonia too much over a few hours, but still something to consider

TAKE ME ONE HOUR TO BUILD A STAND THAT I USE 2 -2 BY 4 FOR EACH LEG AND 2 BY 6 TO HOLD THE TANK UP ,THOSE FANCY STAND I STAY AWAY FROM

@@oilyotter6297 I know, I've been in the hobby longer than 15 years and I've never seen a stand made purely of acrylic. I've seen people use acrylic as side panels, but the support of the tank as acrylic seems very odd and out there. Also unless there was a missing piece in the middle what supports the middle of the tank?

The thing that went wrong when we moved our tank was a light falling into the water… it needed to be replaced 😝

Acrylic definitely does get brittle over time, surely having it in the freezing cold and direct sun didn't help
