The style that inspired the latest Susperia poster is called Trash Polka, a Polish movement popularized in underground and international tattoo exhibits. I love his breakdown in styles and how design is an art of impact and visual storytelling. I think most of the people commentary forget this is a Vanity Fair video and not a Skillshare on poster design.

I only just started watching this video and I'm already annoyed by it. Not because he's tarnishing the posters, but because it serves so little purpose. It's just busywork for his hands when he could simply point at the things he's talking about, going on to draw boxes around them is pointless.

they need a "Best Graphic Design" category at the Academy Awards for movie posters, so much intricate detail goes into these movie posters and they need to be recognized. Saul Bass would've definitely won the award.

Everyone's complaining that he's taking the designs so literally and talking about them so practically, but that's how actual design critique works. You talk about what everyone can see but through the lens of design. It's not like we see some magical dimension or something.

And the best poster? Again it's the the original. The modern version (of the poster and the movie) completely misses what'll attract people to a movie like this, the inner psychology and wonder of those who've chosen to take a role in life playing in front of 1000's. Big mistake to assume that the audience is so sophisticated that they won't care.
