She acted soooooo entitled. She tried to free houseelves against their will. She was hiding little hats in the Gryffindor dormitory room. So the house elves would find them. The house elves got so scared of getting accidentally freed by accidentally picking up such a hat. Poor little Dobby had to clean the Gryffindor dormitory all by himself because the other house elves were too scared. But at least Dobby did it happily. Because he was always hoping to meet Harry. But I'd have loved to see Dobby wearing ALL the hats like a tower on his head. He had such an interesting style in the books. And I love how he had bargained Dumbledore down. He was the only free house elf at Hogwarts. And he wanted less money and less free days than Dumbledore had offered. He was like a mix of a human and a house elf. He wanted to be free and he wanted to get paid. But the thought of too much money and too much free time was even scary for brave little Dobby.

People forget that in the books that Ron is a really good strategist and could be described as obsessive, and being basically just a foul mouthed, teenage chess prodigy who wants to both BE better and DO better than every single other member of his own family, but because struggles with imposter syndrome so badly it can sort of obscure the fact that he does, in reality, have his own brand of ambition coming out of his arse. Hermione, too, is not so much the annoying wet blouse everyone treats her like in the movies especially; she is, in reality, vicious, vindictive and keeps blackmailing people! She can talk her way around idk, like EVERYONE, and when she wants something, she will be stopped by neither rules nor other people, and tbh I doubt even death would dampen her drive to go after what she wants-at least not until she has GOT whatever "it" is.... and simultaneously humiliates anyone and everyone who ever had the GALL to cross her. ... and Harry? Well, Harry is, when you sit back and think about it objectively, a _worryingly_ good liar, especially by omission and circumlocution and just generally succeeds in hiding things he doesn't want anyone else to know or discover or find (be that an object, memory, fact, person... whatever it is, he will conceal), even if, admittedly, directly making random lies up on the spot isn't in his wheelhouse of strengths. In addition to this is his highly developed sense of cunning, and has, shall we say, uh,, "problems" with how absolute his drive and desire for revenge towers above everything else in his life, to the point that it nearly kills him, like MULTIPLE times. .... and it's kinda not hard to miss that all THREE of them have tempers that, when triggered, are more what you would expect of, say, a vicious creature or maybe a Veela, Harpy or Dragon... not that people seem to remember this??? Basically, put another way, if it was a different world where you couldn't argue with the sorting hat and that they could beg, please and, ultimately, just demand that the hat put them in whatever house they want, I think that it's quite likely every one of them had the potential to be put in Slytherin and, if they had been, they would've done really very well in Slytherin House (house pride!! I'm Slytherin too-I tried the Pottermore quiz like 7 different times to really make sure, even!-so I may be kinda biased but I'm still right). ... oh, and having said all that, you mustn't me STARTED on the Weasley twins, and also Sirius Black! Cos in my mind there is just noooo way those three could've stayed out of Slytherin, had they not been able to ask/beg/plead to be put into Gryffindor, and I can not be convinced otherwise!!! In fact I am now even thinking about Percy, because his defining traits are not that Gryffindor at ALL when you think of it! Cos like,, firstly he lives and breathes academics and "networking" (bùtt-kissery), wanting to do things absolutely perfectly, every time, all day and every day, and you can't tell me he does this for any other reason BUT that he really does just want to prove he is literally better than other people. .... and secondly? His actually RIDICULOUS ambition. Because idk what you think on such things but if he didn't eat and sleep ambition how on earth else does an 17 -19 year old, straight out of Hogwarts, somehow become the 2nd advisor/direct support staff to, idk, only just the LITERAL LEADER OF THE BRITISH WIZARDING WORLD?!? That's some Tom Riddle bullsh¡tte right there, correct!!?? Cos seriously! He has an only unholy amount of ambition, my dudes. And that, like it or not, is a distinctly SLYTHERIN trait, if ever I saw it. There is nothing Gryffindor about him I can see that isn't either superficial or just because of his name/family/upbringing. If you take away that, BOOM: you now have yourself a Snape dupe that's a spitting image of him if he had siblings, loving parents, and also if he was an extrovert.) Am I right?? I'm right, you all know it 😉

But that's That's not how this works The Sorting Hat doesn't just put you wherever you ask, but a lot of the people in Harry Potter are honest enough with themselves for it to seem that way. Malfoy (extremely easy example but I'll use him because it is obvious) is introspective enough to realize that ambition IS what's most valuable to him at 11 and therefore is put in Slytherin where he wants to be. On the other hand, there are people like Neville who value bravery a lot but don't think they are or can be and aren't really honest with themselves that they DO value honor and bravery and chivalry and adventure. So the Hat overrides them because it can see past the lies they tell themselves. I'm absolutely with you on Percy but not really the rest of them I don't have the energy right now to write a full dissertation on each of them but I'll at least give it a go Weasley Twins are really just here to have a good time. Life is an adventure if you look at it that way, so they do. They're bold and daring and sure, ambitious and troublemaking, but I firmly believe in their Gryffindoritality I'd put them in Hufflepuff before Slytherin actually cause they are very hardworking and loyal and kind. Actually, if it weren't for their sheer amount of adventure seeking, I would put them in Hufflepuff before Gryffindor. Plus they don't belong in Slytherin because while they ARE somewhat ambitious, they don't really VALUE ambition so much. Like they were never once supportive of Percy when he was pursuing his dreams. Of course if he had ever asked them for anything (seriously), they probably would've been there for him and they still cared about him but they weren't really supportive of his ambition I'd actually put Sirius in the exact same category - he never displayed much ambition at all, but did just want an adventure out of life I'm actually not even sure how you're arguing for Ron to be in Slytherin - he's a bit ambitious sure but mostly that's just wanting to be seen. At all. He wants to be valued and because his older brothers were so amazing he feels like there's absurdly high expectations for him to do so (and that's fair). So although his vision is set higher than most, it's mostly due to circumstances and not nature. His loyalty is probably his #1 characteristic, which a lot of people say makes him a Hufflepuff, and I won't necessarily argue with that. But for me, I don't see the kindness or work ethic I'd like to from him to be Hufflepuff, but he is honorable and chivalrous (usually). And his bravery is the only thing that comes even close to rivaling his loyalty. Hermione is very determined, sure, but I don't think that's the same thing as ambition. She has high dreams but they're not so much for herself. When she starts SPEW it's not because she wants to be seen as the Witch who Cares but rather because she just DOES care. I'd say she's a lot more on the determined side than the ambitious one. She does so well in school not because she wants to be seen as the brightest witch of her age, but because she's just really curious (which is why so many people say she belongs in Ravenclaw - to which I respond I can't really prove you wrong but the Sorting Hat is literally a Ligilimens and disagrees with you so while I can't really explain HOW, you're wrong) Harry? I'm not really sure where you're getting that he's such a good liar. I'm not saying he ISN'T, but I don't remember seeing any times that he's any better than average. Besides, while being cunning IS a Slytherin trait, being deceitful is not. I would say that he IS the most ambitious of the three, but I still think (and apparently the Sorting Hat does agree, at least to some extent) that his daring, honor, chivalry and courage outweigh that. I realize that he did specifically ask the Hat not to put him in Slytherin, but I have my own views about that. First, the Hat did NOT say, like so many people make it out to be, "Ima put you in Slytherin if you're cool with that. No? Alright, I guess Gryffindor works too" like no it just made a comment that Harry COULD flourish there. I think a lot of people forget that it makes the same remark about Ravenclaw (which really baffles me - Harry's an idiot*) but when Harry doesn't specifically ask not to be placed there he's still not. As for when the Hat pushes slightly, something about "are you sure? You could be great there, no doubt about it" I think it's just seeing how strongly Harry feels about this and making sure he does have all the information. It would know (as Harry knows and again the Hat can read his mind) that Ron and Hagrid discouraged him from being there, and wants to see how Harry would react to positive encouragement about the House. IT doesn't know because HE doesn't know so it has to try it out. Plus I think it was just having some fun, as it really does have to sit on a shelf every other night of the entire year. In regards to their temper, with the exception of Harry, they mostly get mad in proxy. So Ron and Hermione get mad about what Umbridge is doing to Harry. Ron gets mad when people insult Hermione. Hermione gets mad when Rita publicly shames Harry for an entire year (sure, she's irritated about that stuff with her as well but I believe it was more about Harry's suffering). Plus a lack of anger management is nowhere listen in the qualities of Slytherin House. I'm also a proud Slytherin and would love to have Hermione and Ron included in our house but they're just not. I do think Ginny should have been and Rowling messed up there, and I'm with you on Percy, but I think she got the rest of them right I would love to hear if you have anything to say about this though *When I say he's an idiot - this doesn't actually contradict the Hat completely. All the Hat says is that he's got "not a bad mind, either". Harry IS intelligent, he just doesn't really value intelligence that much and therefore never chooses to exercise his intelligence and think things through, preferring to examine how he feels about things or act really impulsively. Which is why, I believe, the Hat DIDN'T put him in Ravenclaw. So it doesn't actually baffle me, but I do like making jokes about how Harry definitely isn't a Ravenclaw

IIRC part of the reason Percy got the job is because Fudge wanted him to spy on his family. As we know the Weasleys were close to Dumbledore and members of the Order so having their son on his side was a big win. Also Percy was apparently a fairly capable wizard. So his ambition obviously played a part in him accepting the job but isnt the whole story when it comes to why he was offered it

Hermione will always care about her future, and therefor her studies. Book 1 Hermione figured that it would be best to avoid breaking rules. If she broke the rules the teachers would punish her, and her studies could be negatively effected. Every other book Hermione, figured out that the teachers, and even the law, only punish the rule breakers they catch. You can do what ever you want if you’re smart about it. And Hermione is very smart.

Yes. She was prepared to straight-up _murder_ Snape if he tried anything. Also, all three of them knocked Snape out in the Shrieking Shack in the third book with Expelliarmus instead of just Harry. Also, this is not even close to being true. It was only in the movies that they went full girl-power with Hermione. JKR was actually pretty upset that they - the screenwriters and producers - took some of Harry‘s best ideas and gave them to Hermione. So, this isn’t even close to being fair. I, personally, I had no problem with it, as it was more empowering for girls - how many millions of young ladies have been inspired by her example - but if I were JKR and someone took one of my books and turned it on its head like that I wouldn’t be too happy, either.

She will literally do whatever it takes to succeed, short of cheating, and but will happily break the rules if she knows she can get away with it. She’s not a goody two shoes she’s just smarter than Ron and Harry.
