What are you guys seeing? 6-9=-3 ... not the same as 6=9-3 Edit: it just occured to me that maybe your eyes mixed up the symbols at first.

Technically you'd have to move both sticks or the - sign would be too high or low based on the placements in the video

In the problem 6 -9 = 3 I have an alternate solution. Move the top horizontal line of the equals sign and place it above the minus sign between the 6 and 9 so that it reads 6=9-3

@@jamesjones-wv9ik Yeah, that seems almost like a cheat, tho. Especially considering that all the sixes throughout the video have an additional horizontal line at the top.
In many of these, I'd just take a match out of the addition sign and put it diagonally over the equals sign to make it not equal, and I won't have to use my brain cell to think too hard! ;)

I was thinking the same thing straight away. I only wish they were more specific about allowing integers as opposed to positive #'s, and perhaps the last equation wouldn't have looked so impossible.

Ok. MORE AND MORE RULES BECAUSE THE DUDE WHO CAME UP WITH IT INSTANTLY REALIZED IT WAS PATHETICALLY EASY FOR ANY MATHEMATICIAN...
For the last one, I thought of taking the vertical stick from the '+' sign and putting it on the lower left of the 9 but reading it as a letter, so B - 7 = 4 which is correct in hexadecimal.

The problem 8-5=2 has an alternate solution i.e. turn 5 into six.

But where are you getting the extra match to turn the 5 into a 6? To add a match there, you need to remove a match from somewhere else.

@@UTU49 take the visor like matchstick of number 5 and put it on the bottom left of number 5 and it becomes number 6. Basically you can turn number 5 into number 6 without any additional matchstick.

@@Paul-vf2wl well if there’s some rule that six must have six sticks and not five sticks like letter “b” then what you’re saying is right. But I don’t recall any such precondition while the puzzle was put forth. So I’ll stick with my answer 😀

In the second equation (6-9=3), if you remove a stick at the 9, so that it becomes a 3, and add the remaining stick at a position where there is already a stick, so that 2 sticks overlap perfectly, you get the following equation (6-3=3)
#1) 9+9=18, #5)2+7=9
#4, the top stick on the 5 can be moved to change it to 6 ie, 8-6=2

Okay, I guess that counts as a six
I find the ones where you have to slide the match stick easier than the ones where you have to pivot the match stick
There should've been a specific mention that negative numbers are allowed. Because otherwise the last equation isn't true.

Well the last equation IS true when you do what they did; but we all thought we were dealing strictly with positive numbers and not integers.

For the first one, I moved the middle segment of the first 8 to the empty space in the 9 to make it 8 + 0 = 8.
I did and the ruddy thing caught 🔥 !!
You can also move the bottom left match on L.. diagram & put it in front of the answer 8 making it 18 or 9+9=18
A no-brainer really. Any such puzzle with a plus and equal sign can be fixed by moving one stick from the plus to the equal sign (except when it's a zero after the plus).

This is clearly false, and also illegal according to the rules stipulated in the first few seconds. Let's say it IS legal though. 5+3=2. Clearly false. Move one matchstick from the plus sign to create a minus, move it to the = sign to make a =/=. Formula becomes: "5-3=/=2" A false statement. Furthermore, stating that a zero after the plus is an exception to your rule is also false. example: 9+0=5 Moving a matchstick from the plus to the equal sign makes "9-0=/=5", which would be a correct statement. Meaning zeroes are no exception. It's all irrelevant though, as the premise clearly states =/= is an illegal sign to make.

On #5 I was stuck so I took the vertical part of the plus sign and laid it diagonally across the equal sign giving 9 - 7 does not equal 4

🤣 I thought of that too until they said ≠ wasn't allowed. I do wish they had said _integers_ were allowed as opposed to positive #'s and the last one wouldn't have looked so impossible.

In the problem 6 -9 = 3 I also have an alternate solution. Move the upper left vertical line of the 9 and place it above the middle horizontal line of the 9 to produce a 3, leaving 6 - 3 = 3.
8-5 = 3
1. Solution: 8+0=8 or 0+8=8
1. 0+8 = 8+0 = 8
9 + 7 = 4 => -3 + 7 = 4
Alternate answer for #2: Nothing in the rules say you can’t remove a stick, so remove the upper left stick from the #9 to change it into a 3. Then it’s 6-3=3

@robabramovitz5192 Unless you understand English period. The challenge is to move one matchstick within the equation. Not remove.
On problem 2 you can also remove one from the nine to make a 3 and put it on the other side as a minus sign.
Puzzle #4...make a 6 out of the 5...alternative solution...
It’s a trick puzzle, should say, move one stick to another number, after the 2nd one I figured it was possible to move the one stick around to form the answer b
Last one, I moved the + to × , took the upper part of the 7 and turned it into 1, turned the 4 into 9, then 9 × 1 = 9.
Lol, I didn't get any of those right.
The equals sign is also made of matches and yet none of these solutions include moving one of those to make a > or < sign which would be true no matter what numbers were on either side of the equation. 😂
for #2, move the stick from the 9 to above the equal sign to make a triple equal sign. 6 - 9 = 3 ---> 6 - 3 = 3. if I want to define 6-3 as equivalent to 3 then that's my choice which technically isn’t wrong. [mic drop]

In the first one you can get the same effect by removing the middle bar of the first eight to make it a zero, and then using that bar to turn the nine into an eight. ie 0+8=8

Except it specifically stated at the start of the video that ≠ isn't allowed. About the 0:06-0:07 mark it reads "note: ≠, is not allowed."

I found alternate solutions to most of these. This type of puzzle is seriously flawed.
8 + 9 = 8 move 1 stick for 0 + 8 = 8
on 6-9=3, can move the leftmost stick on the 9 and place it on top of another one and 6-3=3
Minus 3 +7=4
#4. 8-6=2
Took me over 2 minutes --but I eventually got it--slow brain!---8+0=8
Turn the 9 into a 3 and use the stick you removed to turn the 3 into -3.
So how was moving the one stick on the nine the answer???
#1 9+9=18
The answer to every one of these is the ≠ sign
1. 0+8=8
9-5=4
Change 6 - 9 = 3 into 6 - 9 < 3 by tilting the upper stick in the equal sign.
Got 0 ☹

Easy. move the stick marking the top to bottom cross on the plus sign and move it over to diagonally bisect the equals sign. So now we have 9 - 7 Does not equal 4 and it is an accurate formula.

Other option is to move the top of the 7 over to the 4 making it a 9 and rotate the middle sign to now say: 9 * 1 = 9.... This one wouldn't pass the normal test, but since the author is making silly rules, I'm guessing the author has already lost their game. 😮

-3+7=4 Make 9 a 3. Use stick to make -9.
It might be cheating, but the first one can be modified to read 9+9=18. The "1" is only one matchstick tall, which may or may not be allowed.

5 + 7 ≠ 4 or -3 + 7 = 4

6 - 9 = 3 can be done by moving one stick from the equal sign over parallel to the minus sign, to make 6 = 9 - 3. Oh, go ahead and quibble about how the signs are now (slightly) at the wrong heights!
Okay so technically speaking you never said where we had to move one of the sticks to. Technically based off move one stick to fix the equation, we could just move one of the sticks off the board entirely. Since that's the case because you didn't properly define the rules, The second equation has two answers of course. It has the instance in which You remove the top right vertical stick of the nine adding it to the top right vertical empty spot the six turning it into 8 - 5 = 3. But, I could also remove the top left vertical stick of the nine and throw it off the board entirely and then turn it into 6-3=3. Again you said move the stick to fix the equation. You didn't say that I had to reuse that stick.
