Mountaineers Homesteaders and Artists - Ashford WA

Ashford Washington sits just 6 miles outside the Nisqually entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park. History is abundant here and it's a fun place to stay a while and look around. There are places to stay here in comfort just outside the main gates to the park and I'm certain you will meet some wonderful people with stories to tell about this place and it's past. It's somewhere we can't wait to come back to again. Thanks to the friendly people we meet we had fun discovering the story of the Ashford family. I hope you will enjoy it too when you come along with us.

Thanks, I'll be going back to Ashford sometime this summer. Joan Painter had some great tales to tell and I'd like to do an interview. I would love to show more of the sculpture park, but he frowns on that. I suppose he doesn't want people copying his ideas, but it really is remarkable. He also goes to Quartzsite in the winter to show and sell there.

I made a video, but it will need to stay private since he has posted signs not to publish photos. You'll have to take my word that it is amazing. He does go down to Quartzsite in the winter if you ever make it down there. Thanks for watching.

Hi S....omg the scenery is gorgeous. I spent a few years in Oregon and this makes me homesick for that part of the country. Beautiful! Thank you for sharing. Janet

Happy that you liked it. The weather is getting nicer and we are planning on making lots of trips in our new Jeep. This one was fun since I've driven through this town many times and finally slowed down to look around and found all these cool places.

My uncle and aunt used to live in Packwood south in Lewis county and was just there yesterday as well as Ashford, and the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad is so awesome to ride.

Packwood is a great town. We like to go by way of the Skate Creek forest road when the weather allows. Never had a ride on the train, but it is something I hope to do one day. Thanks for watching.

PNW Granny I've only rode the train once. But i believe one event they do once in a year is a ride to Tacoma via the Easter train. I think the railroad is also trying to reopen its Morton excursions but it's not official yet.

Thank you for the drive , whats gas price your way ?

Our gas prices are pretty high here, about $3.35 most of the time. Hence our new vehicle. The van only got about 12 miles to the gallon and the Jeep gets about 22 miles. Of course, we lost some power. Four cylinders instead of eight, but we love the ease of driving it and especially parking it. lol. Thanks for watching and commenting.
