Mount Moosilauke via Beaver Brook Trail | Terrifying 25 | White Mountains New Hampshire!

This evening’s hike was a sunset hike on Mount Moosilauke via the Beaver Brook Trail which is an elective on the Terrifying 25 list that we are also working on! The trail begins with a steep climb alongside the Beaver Brook Cascades. There are occasional stairs and hand rungs, but most of the first mile is unassisted 34% grade with no switchbacks and steep drop-offs.
At the top of the cascades is a shelter put together by the Dartmouth Outing Club that offers fantastic views of the Franconia and Kinsman Ridges. From that point the trail softens to a much more manageable 13% grade through a stunning evergreen forest. The trail ends at an intersection with the Benton Trail which continues to the summit of Mount Moosilaukee. The hike is 3.8 miles to the summit, 7.2 out and back with 3100 feet of elevation gain!
As always I hope you truly enjoy these Vlogs and find them helpful in planning your New Hampshire Hikes!

Short, Steep, Beautiful and fun as hell! What didn’t make the story was us staying up there on an open spot and watching the stars. And then taking that terrifying 25 trail down in pitch black after 9 PM. It was sooo fun!

It’s funny because I tend to forget to add Little things like that to a lot of my vlogs. And I know so many people appreciate hearing things like this. I literally need to make a note pad of things I need to talk about on my blogs LOL.. Like what do carry in the day pack water filters etc. etc.

That would have been a picture of ME, fifty years ago and a couple of hundred pounds lighter, of course with no poles and poor footwear. Of course, great flexibility in the knees and the hips is a prerequisite. I have neither. Crawling down near the cascades was terrifying, as it took me two minutes to calculate each step. I shall not be returning to Moosilauke.

I'm doing this hike in 2 weeks and I'm super excited! I really appreciate your video people don't normally do Moosilauke via Beaver Brook! How well marked was the trail? Thanks so much again for the video its amazing!!

In all honesty I have never done it in the winter so I can’t really give you too good of advice for this time of year. Well I know several other people have told me it’s a fun trail in the winter. I would say it’s easy to follow but make sure you have a good set of snowshoes/ spikes and possibly an axe

Hi! First time viewer here. Looks like an amazing hike. Why was the trail considered terrifying? I've watched other hiking videos of other trails and thought "Nope. I can't do that!" This one didn't seem at all scary. Did the 'terrifying' bits just not make it into the video, or was the video not really showing perspective well enough to realize it was scary? Great little video. I'm going to check out more for sure. Thanks! :) Paula

One of my favorite Mountains. The best part is that it's so close to home. I've done every trail to the top, Benton trails is favorite. But my one pet peeves is that it is pronounced Moose-a- lock. We can tell a non native from the way they pronounce it. No offense just annoying. 😉

Hahaha I learned soon after posting this video last year. Although I do like the way it flows off the tongue better the way I say it but now I do pronounce it correctly
