Mount McLoughlin // The Mountain you Ski on your Way to Shasta
Ben and I met a lot of nice people on Mount McLoughlin and almost all of them were on a ski pilgrimage to Mount Shasta. You can see Shasta off in the distance so maybe pre gaming on McLoughlin takes some of the anxiety associated with skiing the unknown away? It could also be that Mount McLoughling gives you an opportunity to break up a long drive. Or maybe backcountry skiers can’t resist such an obvious snow covered slope. We’re drawn to them like ants to a discarded sandwich. It’s definitely not a prestige mountain. Which feels kinda rude to say. There could be someone out there who trained for a decade just to ski Mount McLoughling. And after that fateful day he solemnly hung his skis above the fireplace. Then stepping back to survey his work he put his arm around his long suffering wife and signaled with a subtle nodding that this chapter of his life was over. He had done it. He had conquered Mount McLoughlin.

Today is a great day because you just posted! Super stoked about watching this video now. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched so many of your videos over and over again
As an east coast skier that flew out to the west coast to specifically ski this, I feel personally attacked 😂 All jokes aside, we picked this mountain because my friend and host lives less than an hour away in medford and this peak offered a great intro to PNW volcano skiing 101 course for me. Overall I think its underrated and Im glad that you checked this off your list and had a great day out there!
Another mountain in my backyard! Love this mountain, I've summited a couple times and I also HATE the forest walk.
The elevation of Mt Mcloughlin is around 9500, I've climbed it many times. Very underrated mountain and really fun ski
Getting this notification on a run means I have to wait til I get back to watch it on the big screen 😢
Another banger, keep em coming boys
Fantastic video. Back country skiers are the cream of skiers in my opinion. I have seen the terrain they ski in the winter, which sends shivers down my spine.
Another cracking video. Getting me excited for my next trip
Top entertainment as always. Thanks Danny.
Really nice music pairing with the dramatic descents past the volcanic spires, memorable scenes!
I can imagine all sorts of animals chew through a lot to get to that sweet delicious salty boot juice.
Loving the Oregon videos! Two peaks in a row in my home state that I haven't done yet.
Wow, i was right assuming youd ski this after posting your thielsen video! Cant wait to watch it
Most impressed that you found your boots in the forest!
Brings back memories. I lived in OR for a few years and did all he volcanoes. Surprisingly good skiing really lat in the year, but massive long slog through forests made for long days with not too much vert for the effort.
Krull reference!

Danny youre the best!
Ben is starting to look like a skittle this episode!!! Danny is such a great influence that way. Even I've started dressing more like a skittle as of late...
Love getting the ty notification that i’m about to watch some cool shit
Goosebumps!
Can't think of a better way to end a beautiful Sunday, then watching an episode of Mediocre Amateur. Skiing look like a blast. 💪🏻😎👍🏻
Solid content already and only one minute in.
Long walks through the woods bookending some excellent skiing can sum up the Oregon cascades a lot of the time. The approaches out here can be longer than other people’s whole tours lol. But hey, your legs look amazing at the end of the season.
what a beautiful day
Title is very accurate. Was about to do the same but I slept in on my McLoughlin ski day
Spritz your chewables with windex. Ammonia is a real deterrent if you put your wet mouth on it. If it's your shoes or handlebar grips, or wiring under your truck, hoses in the engine bay, or yummy tires. No one will ever know they've been sprayed with a little ammonia -- until they lick it. A friend's new garden hose was chewed into pieces by raccoons. What's not to like? It was chewy and had a tasty freshwater center. So I patched the two ends together and gave a light spray of windex. Ammonia is a base, wet it's slippery, tastes like soap and burns a bit. Dry it's none of these. I thought she have to do this every couple of weeks. Nope. The raccoons were still working their 'magic' up and down her street, but never touched that garden hose again.
dude i did this 2 months ago, that walk/skin through the trees was freaking BRUtal
Marmot ate my shoes and hat, and tried to drag a ski pole into its hole. Definitely hang the shoes!
The animal most likely to chew on shoes is the porcupine. Porcupines have no trouble at all climbing trees.

This is what I was thinking.
Not expecting a skiing video in July
What is the best time of year to ski this mountain and Shasta. Early June?
@benjaminfox-shapiro4032

We were there late May, if you go earlier you would likely have an easier approach but the snow might not be as settled. Early June would probably go just fine most years if you're willing to walk to reach skiable snow.
"L5 rating" 😂
Anyone know what this guy does for a living?

Ha Ha. I had a rock chuck chew on my shoes at the saddle of the Middle Teton. It is a real thing.
The video description is gold hahaha

Danny: SUPERB! Why? Because it's a mountain many of your viewers like me, who are at best "Aspiring MEDIOCRE Amateurs" can relate to and plan to do! THANKS for all you and your cohorts do to inspire we mere mortals to GET OUTSIDE!!
Scottish mountain names are way harder to pronounce, would love to see a mediocre amateur episode here in Scotland! If you’re ever planning a trip hit me up if I can help out with info on routes and plans 3:36
Oh yeah I had my salty ski boots gnawed on pretty good by a marmot or something when I stashed em to go for the summit on Snowmass
I had a marmot eat my shoes. It happens.
Babe wake up, new mediocre amateur dropped.
Points for Krull reference
First!
How do I become a mediocre armature? I live in Boise, you're in Salt Lake.. You dont know me but I do everything you do and I love you sense of humor. Please respond if interested. Best, Michael

Porcupines will absolutely eat your shoes. Happed to a guy I know. Other rodents too I'm sure.
Again Danny bashing with his PhD in Statistics at the start
The conditions looked a lot like hard pore corn.
You ever gunna try fixing your SAD way of eating? Carbs are overrated...fat is the superior human fuel!!!
