Mount Fuji Night Climb and Sunrise 2022

There is an expression in Japanese that, " A wise man climbs Mt. Fuji once, only a fool climbs it twice." Climbing Mt. Fuji can be physically demanding, and depending on the season and weather, it can be dangerous. Mt. Fuji has an altitude of 3,776 meters and is Japan's most iconic symbol and the highest mountain in Japan.
A sacred mountain honored and revered by pilgrims and artists since ancient times. Mt. Fuji, a World Heritage (Cultural Heritage) site since June 22, 2013, is popular with locals and travelers to Japan. There are four trails to the summit. The Yoshida trail starts from the Yamanashi Prefecture side. The Fujinomiya, Subashiri, and Gotemba trails from the Shizuoka Prefecture side. I took the Yoshida Trail, which has the best access from Tokyo, and the summit ends at the ideal place to see the sunrise.

@JapanExperiences Thanks for the very informative video! What time would you recommend I depart Shinjuku and start my hike if I wanted to head straight to the top for sunrise without staying in a hut?

@@JapanExperiences Thanks for your response! Looks like the latest bus available is 3.45pm (I think they are doing this to discourage bullet climbing), so I will just catch that bus and take some time to acclimatise at 5th station :)

No, I don’t think you need to reserve but if it’s a busy time making a reservation wouldn’t be a bad idea. The bus I took was from Shinjuku station.

No ticket required but they do ask for a donation which goes to upkeep of the trails.

Are you glad you stayed in the hut or do you wish you just rested outside on the benches?

The hut was not necessary. I could have started later and not have stopped (or just rested on the benches) until the top. But I definitely wanted to be at the top on time to see the sunrise.
