    I use a chesty mount, and I found that the Max Lens mod is required with my GoPro 10 Black, because: (1) the Linear lens mode cannot be used, it feels too claustrophobic to watch, (2) without at least horizon leveling, it is impossible to keep the horizon stay completely straight while riding, the camera just always gradually tilts a little bit in one direction or the other, and (3) only the Linear mode has horizon leveling, except with the Max Lens mod. With the Max Lens mod, I get both non-claustrophobic perspective, and a level horizon. Maybe a helmet mount would help, but I don't want that either.

  • @greasesgarage

    @greasesgarage

    9 ай бұрын

    I’m glad you mentioned this! I forgot to talk about the horizon leveling. This splits the community a bit but I find myself preferring not to use the leveling (at least with a helmet mount) because it lets the viewer lean with me and feel like they’re in the seat too. It’s hard to know whether that feeling would apply with the chest rig though. I’m curious to try out that max lens mod though, I hear it improves the low light performance of the camera as well

  • @yzimsx

    @yzimsx

    @@greasesgarage I like the chest mount view, because being a bit lower it kind of makes the bike look slightly larger, and it's somehow more relaxed as well, because it lets the viewer be more like a passenger just watching the scenery. And because I can use an open helmet. A helmet mount view is more exciting and intense, because it makes the viewer feel more like being the rider. I also have an anamorphic lens, which lets me make shots with 2.2:1 aspect ratio, but I haven't found a good way to use it for bike riding shots yet.

    I bought a purple panda and set it up in my helmet with a gopro 9. I just walked in the door from doing a test, watch the video and then clicked on your video. Idk how people get good quality out of it, i had it tucked in the cheek pad, up by my right eye in the pad and even on the chin strap. Quality was horrendous.. not sure if my voice echoing in the helmet is the issue but it was terrible. Going to get a ride wireless mic so i can change the settings as i need to.

  • @greasesgarage

    Two things, one, there are 2 different plug types that come with the purple panda. One is for cell phones and one is for the go pro so be sure you’ve got the right one. Second, it’s very tight so you might have to push harder than you’d expect to get it to seat properly. Let me know if either of these things help

    8:42 I know a dude who felt the same way until he crashed and had his face and jaw torn apart. He survived for a while after that, but ended up dying of complications related to the injuries. He wasn’t the one that caused the crash either, some cager pulled out in front of him at an intersection, but he is the one who suffered and paid for it with his life. He had 100’s of thousands in medical bills. He had to have reconstructive surgery numerous times to even be able to breathe properly, let alone to get his face not looking like a smashed pumpkin, and even then you could tell he had his face destroyed. If you even survive the crash, you’ll regret not having one on for the rest of your life. Don’t buy cheap unknown or Chinese helmets either, there are tons of videos that show just how easily they break in comparison to a decent brand one. They often use just regular old cheap plastics with styrofoam inners that literally add almost no protection for your head. You don’t need a Shoei or anything crazy expensive, a cheaper HJC one will do just fine, but make sure it’s at least well known reputable brand. The Chinese fake everything and have no problem throwing on stickers that don’t actually live up to the standards they say. 11:59 I do like the purple panda, but trying to stuff that long cord into the cheek pads is quite frustrating lol.

    It can depend on how you’re using it. For me on these helmet cam rides I’m not recording the entire ride. I turn it on and off as I’m riding and want to capture something. Mine has never overheated but I shoot 4k 24fps. If you’re doing seated shooting without moving it can def overheat that’s better left to a smartphone or KZread camera

    Did you ever hear any static noise recorded with the Purple Panda? I've ordered 2 of them now and they've both had the static noise in voice recordings on Laptop, Desktop and GoPro Hero 3+ (I know, it's an old model). The only time I don't have static is if I use a TRRS to USB-C DAC Cable, but this doesn't really help me with setting up motovlogging :(

    Since you have basically auto ISO, I am not sure I understand why you would cut frames per second to only 24 fps. I guess that would cut down the size of your media files, but at the expensive of (and having watch a few of your videos, you might be doing that on purpose) making it look like a TV show from back in the day. It works really well for your concept, but I would think anyone wanting to make people feel like they were there, at least 30 fps, and personally I would do 60 fps depending exactly what they were doing.

  • @greasesgarage

    Yes it’s to give it a motion blur effect that lets the rider feel closer to the actual experience. Our eyes are closer to 24fps, you can see it by waving your hand in front of the screen at 24vs60 compared to regular life
