I've had every variety of motorbike from 125cc commuters to 1000cc V Twins, but never know such fun riding as the back to basics Bullet 500. It pulls like a train, sounds beautiful and as the legendary motto says is "built like a gun". For me it's what riding is all about, a go anywhere tank of a bike that looks very cool.

At last! An American motorcycle reviewer who KNOWS what she is talking about, and understands what the Royal Enfield delivers. Classic 'Old School' motorcycling with a little nod to the 21st Century. I love my Enfield 500 Classic.........and the newer Bullets have the kickstart back where they should be.

The one thing she omitted to mention, although she did allude to it in a small way, was that the 500cc single is so torquey, but down tuned and low revving, that it will literally last a lifetime without a murmur in sight. The top speed of just over 70 miles per hour is not through laziness, on the engineers part, but simply a character of the very long stroke and low revving, low power engine. It will go round the clock twice without raising an eyebrow. But it will also cruise at 65 all day long without batting an eyelid too, so is a nice compromise between comfortable cruiser and reliability. And as others have said, even though it's down tuned, the boy is so big that it literally pulls like a train. Quite literally, as there are stories of people in India backing carriages out of side yards by hooking up a few Enfields with a piece of rope in the absence of a Loco!

I used to have RE350 cc bullet when I was in India,I've ride many motorcycles in India,in my personal experienced RE is the best one.Its No1 motorcycle and pride of India.Once you ride RE you wouldn't like to ride any other motorcycle.I even saw some people riding RE in Canada,I thought of getting one but I can't do that in Canada the reason is insurance in Canada is really high and top of that you can ride only six months a year. It'll last good if you maintain and service it time to time

I may be late with the comment but still will state it.. I own a classic 500 or as known internationally the C5. The bike is with me for past 9 months and together we have clocked 20K kms .. And till date it never left me in the dark... Every morning when she comes to life with her signature thump, there is a smile on my face, knowing that we both will be together for a long time... and there are roads we both will ride

@atilio garcia: As a bullet rider I would say that they are good bikes, The feel of the drive is great, it feel very light and gear shift very well. Engine is also reliable, it lasts long. It's a 27 bhp cruiser which is somewhat low for a 500 cc engine, but the bike is not expensive. I mean it this bike is cheaper than CBR 250 and much cheaper than Ninja 250 R here is in India.

Jaguar and land rover are owned by an Indian company, but they are both 100% British vehicles. Cant say the same for RE, although the design hasn't changed much, there have been so many small changes according to Indian requirements that RE is now as Indian as it can be. And I think more than anything the sense of indianess of this brand comes from he fact that there is such a HUGE number of enfield owners in India, and each of them have their own story with the bike. Many have done interesting modifications to it, from the indori silencer to the saree guard, there is a story behind every bullet.

Nice bike - but I personally still prefer my Bullet Machismo model (shown here @ 1:16 with windshield). And, just a little detail concerning the history: Enfield is no more independent, they belong meanwhile to Eicher (but who minds ...). Concerning maintenance: yes, some Bullets may need little bit more attention than other bikes, but if You decide to go for such a bike, You may not really mind about that point ... ;-)

dude, im indian and believe me, this bike has no power to speak off, 65 or 70 mph its out of breath. youve seen those big rigs come at you. better off having it shipped to you, its a good around town or short commute kinda thing.
