I would've loved to see how this car would have evolved if still available.

I had an '85 Conquest for a few months, it was a good car. 0-60 in 10secs may seem slow in this days, but it was fast in the 80s. I like retro reviews. They remind me the good and bad cars from those years

I could only imagine what a modern version of the engine that came in this car would perform like. I mean 2.6 liters makes for a fairly large 4 cylinder engine, especially when you realize that it was turbocharged. It would be awesome to see a newer version of this engine running a DOHC head combined with direct injection as well as having some form of variable valve timing MITEC system added to it. I bet such a modernized version of this engine would easily achieve 300 factory rated crankshaft HP without breaking a sweat right off the showroom floor!

I street raced an '87 Mustang back in those days. Starion/ Conquest were fodder. Your main competition was tweaked Grand Nationals and other stangs with an occasional tweaked Omni GLH giving you a good run. IROC's and TransAms were slugs. Fat and heavy. Vets were too. The king of the 1980's streets was the Ford Mustang! The Buick GN was a close second. I occasionally got in a tangle with some exotics that should have handed my ass to me, but the drivers were the hold back. Money can buy fast, but it wont make you faster if you ain't got the skillz.

    7 жыл бұрын

cody clark Mitsubishi was looking for a Starion successor when developing the 3000GT, with most of the technologies adopted derived from the first two HSR concepts. The Starion and 3000GT were sports cars, aimed at the Supra, RX-7, Fairlady Z, and later Skyline GT-R, NSX and the like. The Eclipse and FTO were different beasts, aiming at the sport coupé market of the Celica, Probe, etc. And were Mitsubishi's re-entry into that market following their previous efforts (Lancer Celeste, Galant FTO).

10.1 to 60mph. And that was considered fast back then. Today, 6 seconds to 60mph can be had by more full size trucks and SUV’s than sedans and smaller cars
