MOTORHOME REPAIRS | MAJOR INTERIOR APPLIANCES | MICROWAVE TOUCH PAD | REFRIGERATOR ICE MAKER | EP139

THINK FINDING SOMEONE TO GET YOUR RV REPAIRED IS TOUGH? WAIT UNTIL YOU NEED A MAJOR APPLIANCE REPAIRED! Our Frigidaire Microwave Touch Panel Buttons started to fail. I found KZread videos on Appliancepartspros.com and Repairclinic.com showing how easy it was to replace this front control panel! We were able to order the direct OEM replacement parts from Appliancepartspros.com When our Maytag Refrigerator Ice Maker stopped working, I was able to find once again find out how to do it myself by researching Repairclinic.com, and ordered the parts from Appliancepartspro.com Trust me folks,....if I can do it, anyone can!

Mark - great video. While I don't have a DS (yet) I do have a microwave that needed fixing. Not ready to have a technician come into the home and not feeling strong enough to take the thing off the wall - it had been deferred. After this video I was inspired to check Mark's online resources and was able to dig into the microwave far enough to fix my issue (a sprung door latch) - and were back in business. Thanks for all the great videos

Another great video! Too bad about the air conditioner; we are here at Mt. Olive Shores North (where you guys stayed; first video I watched from your channel) watching our lakefront home on Meandering Way being built. Our rear air conditioner went out. It would run continuously, but produced no cold air and would not shut off from the multiplex panel. Had to trip the breaker. A call to Tiffin revealed that the Spyder control module for thatunit had likely failed. Ordered a new module for $70. In the meantime, went on the roof and removed two covers from the unit. Coils were iced over. Another call to Tiffin told me I had the set temp too low, causing the unit to run continuously without cycling on/off in very hot, humid Florida weather, which caused the coils to ice up. Left the covers off for a couple of hours in 90 degree temps so the ice could melt. Repaced both covers on the unit, reset the breaker, and the air conditioner started running immediately even though the Spyder Controls panel indicated off. However, it was blowing cold air, and once it reached my set point (now an uncomfortable 75 degrees), the unit cycled off, and the Spyder Control panel was working again. I am not as handy as you, but I am happy when I can repair something myself and save $.

The previous owner of my Mountain Aire had replaced the middle AC. He had Dometic ship it to the RV park he was staying at in Vegas and had a mobile tech install it. I think it was about $1200 for the unit. BTW did you know that the louver door on your side radiator will hinge up for maintenance and cleaning? 4 screws hold it in place then it will hinge up you just need to add a prop stick since Newmar doesn't provide one. I noticed leaves and stuff starting to accumulate so blew it all clean with compressed air. Lots of dust cleared out. A clean radiator runs cool. Stay safe out there.

Love your videos. I'm in the same situation. At 61 with arthritis most of my servicing and repairs are done by other folk. You should be OK with the 2 AC's. Just will have to run the heck out of those two. Question? Were your cranking batteries getting weak? Mine are 3 years old and so far so good. I've not had to use the house batteries to help boost the start but one time and that was due to my negligence leaving the bus batteries connected while parked for an extended period of time.

I don't like surprises when on the road. Three years out of a one year warranty battery is way enough for me. I replaced them while they were still working fine just for the piece of mind. They are just run of the mill Interstate batteries. My house batteries are Lifeline, and I will run them until issues start to pop up. So far after three years, we are good.

Wow! One year return policy is great. We are sitting in Red Bay, AL waiting to get all of our warranty work done on our rig next week because all the RV dealers we tried to "spoon feed" could/would not get the parts we needed. Great job on fixing your microwave and ice maker. Safe travels to CA.

3 years for battery life seems short, especially when you're in an arid climate most of the time. Is this normal RV battery life ? Also, you guys are so careful with your RV, does it seem like those appliances should have lasted longer ? Is this typical ? Is this due to road vibration ?

I am very pro-active on replacing things prior to them creating a "situation". A dead battery on a car typically happens in a lot more convenient place that where you RV will be parked! The appliances truly are getting the daylights shook out of them. RVing is tough on everything, especially the pocket book.

When the two of you are traveling what travel AP do you use? I am looking for an AP that would keep us away from small roads with low bridges or tunnels when we travel. Twice we have gotten into a iffy predicament with our camper. I remember a previous video of yours where you might have mentioned it.

October 25th 2020 we will have an episode on RV Trip Wizard which we view as the most valuable app we use. Just like Garmin, which WE ALSO USE, you can input the hazards you want to steer clear of, like low bridges, unpaved roads, etc. We mostly stick to major travel arteries,........but in a few weeks when we travel to 4 or 5 Harvest Hosts, we will we on a lot of two lane highways. Stay tuned!

Wow! That was a quick fix on both the microwave AND the ice maker... Like a snap of the fingers!! I suppose that things do wear out quicker when you are fulltime in an RV. Do you think that faulty RV park power may have contributed to premature wear of these electrical components including the AC unit? Do you use a power regulator on your 50 amp circuit that protects electrical on your coach? Safe travels to California!

I DO NOT think any faulty power was to blame. The micro is a cheap brand, and the weak link on ice makers is always the heating element for the ice cube release. We use a Hughes Autoformer plugged into the power pedestal, with a Progressive Industries EMS plugged into it. Then,......we plug in the coach.
