Motorcycle Shock Linkage Rebuild & Bearing Replacement

Rebuild Your Suspension Here!
www.rockymountainatvmc.com/Sa...
Your motorcycle shock linkage bearings require regular maintenance if you want them to last a long time and perform properly. Ideally these parts should be disassembled, inspected, and re-greased every 6 months or so for regular riders. Over time these linkage bearings will eventually wear out and need to be replaced, so that's what we're going to show you how to do in this video. When looking for a Linage Rebuild Kit keep in mind each of these kits will vary with what parts they come with. It's important to know what parts you plan on replacing, and also what each kit comes with so you can get all the parts needed the first time. In this video we'll demonstrate how to replace all the linkage bearings, sleeves, and seals on your dirt bike. We also show you a few different shock linkage designs so you know exactly what to expect. As always we recommend following along with your machines service manual for instructions that are specific to your machine. For more information and to see which shock bearing kits we carry for your machine, visit our website www.rockymountainatvmc.com !

    Best tip for installing the new bearings is to put them in the freezer overnight, heat up the housing a bit and they should drop right in! This way you put no stress on them when installing.

    @Dane Bowers You should be able to press both bearings out the same side. Like we show in the video start on one side and press the one bearing in towards the middle and it should contact the other bearing. From there you should be able to press them both out the same side. What bike are you working on?

    its a 2009 yz250. and you cant its machined and the middle is thinner/tighter. the bearing had not much to get a punch on and wouldn't budge. ended up welding a nut into the bearing shell and pressing it out with an extension bar through from the other side pushing the nut out with a vise.

    I am having the same major issues as others have trying to get the bearings out of my "dog Bone" link on a 2015 KTM 250 SX. Could not "press" them through from one side. Seems they have to come out from the side they were pressed in from. Schematics do not show a sleeve in between them. Had to regrease and reassemble leaving the new one's in the kit. Do I really need to buy a bearing puller for this part?

  • @rmatvmc

    @rmatvmc

    7 жыл бұрын

    I checked the microfiche for your bike model. There is a bearing sleeve, but the sleeve rides on the two needle bearings. You should be able to push the bearing sleeve out to gain access to the two needle bearings on both ends of the dog bone and either using the DIY method (hammer them out evenly with a common screwdriver) or get a puller to pull them up and out.

    There's no room. You can't use the socket method on the bone ( the tuning fork looking piece). The bearing cages sit flush with the inner diameter of the bone. I removed all the needles and tried to pound, heat, pound the cage outward with no luck. I'm just wrecking the outside of the cage with a fraction of outward movement. Did you get it done?

    You will need to press one of the bearings down through the pivot link, butting it up against the bearing on the other side. Pressing both bearings out through one side. Hope this helps. ~Vinny

    Vinnie, the bearings on my 2001 CR250 look to be only removable from pulling each one out. They do not push in (I tried with socket, bench vise and long breaker bar) maybe there is a lip behind it?

  • @rmatvmc

    @rmatvmc

    7 жыл бұрын

    Have they ever been replaced before or greased? These bearings are exposed to a lot of dirt, mud and water and they're a bear to remove if they have not been kept up on regular maintenance and they tend to rust inside. You can try doing this, press it in the vise using the socket method.. apply a lot of pressure, then tap the pivot link with a hammer and that should cause the bearing to break free inside. This is what i've had to do with some linkage rebuilds. Keep us posted.. thanks! ~Vinny
