Thanks bruh, my doubt got clarified. I have a black colour riding gear from Solace, was to change with grey colour gear from Solace too, but I was unsure whether or not to go for the exchange. I am now clear and would stick with black one. Thanks a million again ❤

Motorcycle clothing has come a long way in the 40 or so years I have been riding. How the jacket and trousers are made is more important than the colour. I learned this having lived in countries where for much of the year the temperature is below freezing. About 10 years ago I stopped wearing black motorcycle clothing. I found that people I encountered who were not bikers reacted in a more positive way if I did not look like a "scary biker". This can be important when travelling on adventures. The warmest motorcycle jacket I own is a BKS Endeavour. It is pale grey (mostly). If the air temperature gets above +5C I get too hot even with the vents open so only use it in winter.

Thanks Pavlin! You are the best when it comes to minimizing the confusing BS that comes with consumerism, getting right to the real world practicality of things. Please never loose this in your reviews and opinions. With regards to temperature and dark versus light gear, I find that it only makes a difference at low speeds (under 25MPH or 40KPH) or stopped. With faster moving air, the surface of the jacket will match the air temperature so it doesn't matter. I ride mainly higher speeds on the street for leisure. I don't spend much time at slower speeds. I don't commute and rarely have to deal with traffic. I also don't ride highly technical off road. As a result, I prefer black rid of NG gear for durability and looking cleaner. If it looks cleaner I don't have to wash/clean it as much which makes it last longer. Good point about the GoreTex warranty. I never thought of that. I have two outfits I mainly wear. I have a light mesh suit made by Revit. I only wear it if temperatures will stay above 85 degrees F (30C). I hardly ever wear it because I rarely ride in weather that stays that hot all day. Usually it gets cooler at higher elevation or in the morning. It gets dirty easily and also the mesh is a compromise to abrasion resistance in a crash. As a result, I only wear this outfit maybe 10% of the time at most. The only time I really needed it was riding in the summer in Arizona with Temps in the high 90s (35C+) in the morning! I would never ever do that again if I have a choice! The other suit is a black 3+ season leather/mesh/waterproof suit that I wear 90% of the time. When it is warm and I stop, I take off the jacket immediately so I do not over heat. I try to keep it in the shade so it doesn't get hot. When it is time to ride again, I wait until the last minute to put it back on and start riding as soon as possible. In very hot temps, I use a wet cooling vest to keep me hydrated and cool and I also prefer cotton/polyester blend T-shirts (Puma makes nice ones) in hot temps as opposed to full polyester which is much hotter and less breathable. For visibility, I recommend high visibility vests and/or helmet and treating the bike for visibility rather than light colored clothing unless money is no concern. I have a white helmet, reflective stickers, and blinking LED brake and turn signals. I probably should also get a high vis vest for some riding conditions. Hi Pavlin. Always picking the alternative side of things...I enjoyed the video, honestly. I can understand how this can be a personal opinion issue. However another factor for each rider to consider is the country one lives and rides most of the time, because for instance in Greece even 3-5 degrees may play a role. Also I would suggest that it depends on whether or not you are going off road a lot or just a bit. Anyway, after many years of dark colored jackets I just got a light grey one for reasons of visibility and safety mostly but also perhaps as a sign of shifting taste. Pants is a whole different story. Dark, dark, dark! Cheers!

I live in Brazil and ride all over South America. Here the weather is to much hot (except in Patagonia and Andes). White gear is beter (white, gray, whatever...). The last trip to Patagonia, I took 2 BMWs jackets with me (summer Air flow and Winter & rain enduroguard), it worked very well. The temperatura ranged from 42° to 0º (summer time).

Wow 650 videos! 👍 The good thing it's that most of them are very usefull! Keep up the good work! I agree with the lighter colours, I personally started with a white helmet for the same safety reasons.

Another great video thanks. I do wash my Richa gear in the washing machine, cold with little detergent. and slow spin. Sometimes I add Nikwax to it but. Have been washing my gear 4 times a year. Never had any problems. I ride 15K miles a year and worn it 3 years now. It does get old and some of the seams and pockets have little holes but still ok for daily commute.

Another great video, I find that bright colours on sunny days like he discussed does not help that much for visibility. I rather rely on the many safety tips example, lane placement, having an exit strategy for intersections. And following Road strategies that will keep you safe if used and practice them. But on grey rainy days I like to put on a hi visible vest. Just to add another level of safety.

May be only at night bright colors may work

My advice on visibility is take a flash photograph of the garment under consideration. The one with the most reflective materials becomes instantly obvious and in low light conditions the car headlights with light you up like a Christmas tree. I had a day-glow fluorescent jacket once with no reflective panels and a dark grey and blue jacket with fantastic reflective sections on seams, shoulders - front side and rear and on the arms and waist - the dark jacket was better visibility. Use your camera flash you'll be safer.

Totally agreed with your colour of choices. Well I'm living in equator country. It's extremely hot throughout the year so I chose my jacket in light grey n pants is always black. Gotta compromise the stained n dirty factor hence choosing this combination. Good review videos always by u. Cheerz

I agree on the temperature swings. It is amazing how much cooler you feel when you are at 55 degrees and you go up or down how much the comfort changes. I am a black fan on gear. I have a mesh light gray and white and it shows dirt like crazy. I know you should wash these jackets more friendly but as much as I ride I just don’t have time to do that. Great review..

I've always preferred light colours when riding as it gives more visibility. Also Ive just ordered Held Hakuna 2 adventure jacket and trousers. Got the jacket already and I feel it makes me more visible on the road compared to dark coloured jacket Inused before.

Hi Pavlin, I will throw in my 5 cents. I am in Australia and for the most part, I like bike jackets/coats that are mostly black but I don't mind if they have grey bits or even some white bits, but I do like some kind of highly reflective markings/text on the back, sides and some on the front of my bike coats. My bike is black so I like to have the extra visibility from speeding cars coming from behind me when I ride at night. The heavy coat matches my requirements and is what I ride with in winter but the light one is black with some highly reflective stuff - that is my summer coat. I have fitted extra bicycle reflectors to my KLR and I think they work quite well but who knows. As for cleaning Gore-tex coats, I don't but I do give the highly reflective bits a wipe over with a damp rag occasionally. Otherwise, my coats only get washed when it rains.

Great video! I got quite a bit out of this. Living up north (Scandinavia) the heat absorption argument ( dark material > black) weigh heavily for the many. Rukka is a big seller and also been my choice for the last 4yrs. I chose black and it's been as good as I hoped it would. Yet a sweltering experience in summer, if one rides south in Europe. I have to bring a separate set (mesh based) when riding in the south. It works, but it also means more weight and more luggage. Rukka is perfect for Nordic conditions, sub-par for southern. In the process of considering alternatives. Your points are therefore valuable. Cheers.

I like the quality of the Rukka but as you mentioned they are not really good for hot climate. The ventilation is not good.

I think this is strange, the black don't really help since the cold days are usually not that sunny anyway, but the visibility is often much reduced due to gloomy dark weather. Maybe not for summer riders but... /Swede.

I like to have a light color for my helmet. For me it makes a noticeable difference on hot sunny days. The jacket is black with reflective applications and wide neon yellow bands on the sleeves. The contrasts help with visibility. For me the jacket does not feel too hot even on bright summer days. My riding pants are dark too. Some dirt and insects still leave clearly visible stains. If I do not expect rain, I simply select riding jeans that can be washed without problems. I think that situational awareness is more important for my safety than the color of my gear. I wash my Goretex gear with liquid washing soap after a few months ( depending on how much I sweat in it). Even after a couple of years it does not leak.

Most of my ridding is a Cruiser on back mountain roads maybe %25 on main roads, freeways and in towns. I've been a long haul trucker so have a lot of experience looking at bikes, Motorcycles and CRAZY 4 wheelers. Color on a rider and the bike helps but it seems the most important object for visibility is the helmet Thanks for your wisdom

Hi Pavlin! It really is a matter of personal opinion. I prefer the light color for visibility. LAst year I have purchased a jacket from Oxford it is Montreal 2.0 in sand color. And I still keep a high viz ribbon in the luggage for the night riding, or when it is really dark and rainy. Washing is not such a big issue if you know your apparel and the care instructions are followed correctly.Thank You for sharing experience

OOOOKay - I have a white Icon DKR Raiden jacket (official color is Glory). Except for black patches from elbows down. As a result... on a hot sunny day, my forearms are melting, especially in slow/stationally trafic. The difference in thermal comfort, or lack thereof, under the black patches is staggering. In winter... it doesn't matter what the color is and I rode in humid 3 degrees Celsius on a highway. After the trip, I got a cheap electric vest from Amazon :) You can always heat yourself up, but you can't do much to cool yourself down.

Like the video, and I agree with you on many points, but... In fact - white is not only colder when it is hot, it is also warmer (or less cold) when it is cold outside! This may come as a surprise to many, and seem weird, but the reason is the radiation balance. There is an energy balance between object that can “see” each other, and the surface of an object decides the level of thermal radiation communication. In the winter, moat things are cold, very cold, the ground, the trees, the sky... In a dark room, totally isolated from the world outside, objects with different temperatures will finally reach the same temperature, but it goes faster the closer the surfaces of the objects are to true black body surfaces. So in most winter situations, a white clothing is actually warmer, because it radiates less of your body heat to the surroundings. A very sunny winter day the difference is less, but typically white is still the winner when it comes to keeping warm. That said, you are absolutely right when it comes to keeping it clean. White gear suck! White helmets being the exception, due to the glossy surface. And actually/therefor, regarding heat, I would say that the helmet is the most important thing to have in bright colours. A black helmet in city traffic a hot and sunny day is no fun! Yes ! Riding gear has always been a very controversial issue, depending upon the personal preferences of an individual . But me personally thinking and currently using a white grey combination for my riding jacket in summers, with a black and grey riding pants. A dark military green jacket for the winters but no black colour for me, as I am a bit superstitious about colours.

I like the lighter gear because it MIGHT make me more visible in a sea of black, and therefore safer. Wash in machine with Nik wax cleaner. No problems. Great to be able to ride again! Happy travels

I had a light-coloured suit once. It got very dirty and stained and was impossible to get properly clean. Like you, I prefer a little bit of extra heat from the winter sun and live with a bit of extra heat in the summer.

I have a black rev’it jacket, just as your previous one. It has some reflective materials. But, riding on a dark colored bike and with a matt black helmet not the savest option I’m sure 😅. Looks before function... Most of the times I wear a high vis vest over it . But not when it’s hot, the vest blockes the ventilation holes. Ride safe!

I there, over here in Madrid, Spain I use black color only. Dont like white.....gets dirty just from looking to it but I agree that white colors the jacket looks nicer. And its funny because I just boght for the first time a Revit jacket for the summer color black....never had anything from Revit and for me its a very nice surprise....price/quality very very nice....they got a new client.

You will be happy from REV'IT!

If you're too cold, add another layer or slow down to lower the wind chill. If get stuck in traffic on hot tarmac, 5 degrees could keep you from having a heat stroke. Light colored gear makes the most sense where I ride.

Wondered why you had switched to the lighter colored jacket (which I don't like the look of as well). Think I will stick with dark colored pants, but willing to look at at least grey (with brighter highlights and reflections) for an up-graded jacket, and a helmet with brighter colors (currently black), for better visibility. Recently learned a hard lesson about not wearing proper boots, but fortunately it's just a short delay in the riding season, which is far too short as it is! @2:35 that only works if it's a sunny cold day. If it's cloudy, raining and windy ... mmm not so much. It's the UVs that warm dark clothes faster, no UVs no advantage for the dark clothes. Also, if your cold you can get an extra layer for those 3 degrees, if your too hot in dark clothing, there's only so much you can take off ...

I am not here to argue. This is my opinion and I stand behind my words.

I bought a Alpinestars Patron Jacket on purpouse in black/neon as it was on Sale and you can skip a riding vest. Its not really a light color but at least its neon on the top. I don't care if the colors don't match my KTM, safety first! Concerning weather, I don't care if its hotter or not...I am riding and I need a safety jacket.

how is the slide lock on the pants for you ? I have the same pants and after one year of casual use, one of the 3 snaps holding the part on the flap just tore through the material ... I am curios if I am a singular case or not

Some gears like Rukka offlane which i now have you can take the inner liner with the gore tex off when washing or dont need it..

I prefer integrated gore-tex

surface temperature of light vs dark gear can be quite significant. depending on the material (helmets, jackets etc) but some tests have shown helmets can vary 50 degrees on surface temps, and 10 degrees internal temps, on same model helmets. just being white vs black. So it is a bit more than 3-5 degrees. visibility i think is also really important. twlight or early morning, country road, or a gravel track... little bit of visibility can really save your bacon in the rare situation someone else is out there. on the road. more so

Still didn't wash it, the rain to do it for me.

I have ridden for 7 years now and in my experience I have to say colors like reflective yellow and orange are best for motorcycle gear. Yes it does not look cool, but is very visible and dead guy are not cool either. I was with my car one day, and the only thing that I saw in the rear view mirror was a motorcyclist with an orange jacket. The black version is not visible in during the day and is invisible during the night. The white one can be visible in the dark, can be visible in the day, but when you ride in a cloudy day or at the twilight you will be invisible. The most bright colors are yellow or orange. I personally tested riding with yellow vest, hunting orange vest and no vest. With no vest car drivers didn't saw me and they don't let me pass, but when I was wearing the vests there where 3 cars ahead that made me room to pass. Of course you can find a blind driver, but the chances are less. Soo, I personally don't care about the color of my jacket, because I will always were my orange vest. you can also put on you bike reflective tape stickers. :) Ride safe.

I have used black jacket and trouser for 35 years and the first time I bought light jacket and trousers I wished I didn't after about 6 months of use. It gets dirty VERY quick and looks disgusting, and when others look at you, they think your are smelly person. This makes you wash the garments more often, and at normal/recommended temperature washing, it doesn't come clean, and if you wash the garments at a high temperature or to many times the taped seams degrade and are no longer waterproof. So, after 6 months of use I went back to purchasing black jacket and trousers. Maybe in a country where it don't rain or get dirty, its fine, but for riding in Scotland it was not for me. Dark with refective 3m tape your jacket is actualy camo colours for snow camouflage or dazzle camouflage colours used in second world war on ships and planes! , designed to break up outlines and trick the eyes !

Interesting point.

Using black Rukka equipment with reflective applications since more than a decade, but wearing a white helmet. What do you recognise first of a motorcycle rider? Its the helmet (and of course the motorcycle). And just one suggestion for minimizing the dirt on your combination: After washing it use a good impregnation. Properly applied it will keep (1) your stuff dry and (2) the dirt is easier to remove without washing.

Well... If it works for you, then no need to force you to change your opinion. My opinion is that if it is cold, I can always add a layer but I cant remove any layer when it is hot. Light is always better visible on the roads, it does not merge with asphalt. If you look right against sun, there no difference betwen dark and light, but how often it happens? Anyway, thank you for another great video which forces people to use their brain more. You force them to think about stuff and balance pros and cons. And thank you for that.

Living near the equator it very hot all year, so only wear white jacket and solid white Shoei helmet. Hard to find solid white helmets in other brands. Revit has best options in white or silver jackets.

To be really visible, one of the best option is a yellow or orange vest...on your black vest :) ....it may not look fancy but everybody can see you...:))

I prefer black or dark colors but always with some yellow patches and reflective patches too. White will be too dirty too soon especially with all the bugs and insects hitting you while driving in the summertime. But since you got it for free it's okay and it will make you stand more out in your videos.

personally i prefer black design, because it make me less worrying when going into dirt or mud, and it looks cool... but since I'm a night rider for most of the time, i will choose the gear that has the most reflective material, regardless it is dark or light.

Light color is always more visible. That shouldn't be debated at all. Hi-viz even better. As for dirty, both get equally dirty but, it is less visible on the dark. As for comfort, color makes big difference in extreme climates. 2-3 degrees mean a lot either in cold or hot. As for looks, either can look good. Really more matter of taste and preference. Because I live in hot climate and for visibility, I prefer light colors but, I think that dark gear looks better in general.

Light colours arhie the way to go, I use the MTech Adventure Jacket in mixed tones like your Revit one, I'm about to get matching pants as I'm in Western Australia, were light is best, guys wear black and think it's cool, it's not, but ok for pants only .

I love light color. orange, lime, cyan are preferable. I agree, light color get dirty easily. Shop around me put an exclusive price for white color, twice expensive than the others. And its rare people produce such gear, as people mindset is black is cool. Dark or black easy to get at any shop, common price. I don't mind wearing dark as the bike color and helmet is in light. But, dark color is self baking in hot summer. As road user, l never like everything in black it just like my shadow, no one care. Have been not wash my black jacked at home, but at the road when raining. Actually it get dirt too, but masked by the color.

In the rain light colour gets really dirty, so i use my rain jacket on top of revit jacket in rain. Pockets and sleeves do not become clean after 3years.

My opinion : Use bright color with complementary color pattern if you think motorcycle riding gears as safety equipment. Or, feel free to choose any colors you like such as matching color with your motorcycles, or dark colors if you focus more on fashion.

I use a light jacket, but I protect it with an exterior scotchgard and only have to wipe it down with a damp cloth, it also helps with water repellent. I think having some hi viz in your jacket is best with either dark or light. I think the more important fact about safety is the color of the helmet, studies have shown White or even better a Hi Viz wearing riders end up less on the lists of non fault crash = dumb car drivers.

Definitely the Revit. Helite has the airbag, which is the best protection but only this, the jacket it self is not good at all.

Interesting, for many years I wore hein gerrick gortex and the quality of the brand today in my opinion is not as good,now I wear furygan black with white hi-viz strips very warm and good fit it's always cold here in Ireland and I'm not a young man lol,,,,, I always wear a white crash helmet my motorbike has two hi-viz strips on the front and of course the head light is always on ride safe everyone regards from Ireland ☘️👍

I’m in Australia in the tropics. Black gear is bloody hot. And yet trying to get light coloured gear is near impossible.

Personally I use reflective white stripes jacket which looks like a police with inscription POLSKA. Believe me I am very visible on the road. ;-)

Well with bright you see when it's time to wash it... Not washing gore-tex is also bad for since dirt, sweat and fats are bad for both membrane and fibres, or so I've been told.

Light, having had several close calls, unless you get the black that glows in the dark, very expensive.

I still prefer dark clothing. You can always wear a hi-vis vest over the top and if you want to be more visible you can wear a white helmet.

The same reasons to me.

I think it’s much about fashion, Your light colored jacket looks better and you really looks like a “motorcycle adventurer” in it. But than of course you are a motorcycle adventurer regardless of the color on the jacket. Like you I’m not sure that the light color always is more visible than the dark color, you can see it in the picture with the gray and the blue jacket in the end of the video . But the safety is not about the color of the jacket it’s how you ride. I think you have said it in a lot of your videos “Always act as you are invisible, being visible is no guarantee that people sees you”. (Maybe not exactly that phrase but close enough) It may sound like a cliche but when it comes to safety the safest riding gear is the one that you wear. I think the best is to buy the clothes that gives you the biggest smile and always ride with the gear on

Hi Pavlin, great topic! Motorcycling has become such a fashion over function discipline over the last ten years. I would not buy a Jacket like yours as I would never wash it and it would look terrible after six months. Great for a quick ride down the pub on your new bike but not practical for 50k miles on a tour. I've stuck to BMW gear as it's not dark and the dirt does not look to bad! The material has faded in places due to African sun but that gives a nice well ridden look. So I look like a tramp but if you don't do the miles, your kit will stay as good as new. The light grey parts of your Rev-it Jacket are about right in my book.

Pro tip - dont give a shit about dirt on white or light colored motorcycle clothes. Its utility gear. I wash mine maximum 2-3 times a riding season.

Exactly what I do.

I split the difference on my new purchase. Recently buying a new jacket and pants that are light brown (KLIM Badlands). Will see after these travel restrictions subside here in Canada. The last set of gear of was a grey mesh jacket and pants, with removable waterproof and/or quilted liner, was a super poor choice. While riding in the desert in temperatures of 120F (49C) and just riding with the mesh I suffered from heat stroke. That was not a fun 2 days. Should have taken your online course earlier where you explain the reason why this was a super poor choice and was a BAD BAD potential life threatening choice. Your words "dry up like a small fish" made me laugh when I heard it and resonated through my head when I bought my girlfriends jacket.

Well, Paul, you learned the hard way this necessary lesson but look it from the bright side, you will never forget it!

Why 99% of riding clothes are fookin black or black and something mix? It doesn't make sense!! Its so hard to find white/light tan/brown or light in general jaclet etc it makes me crazy. Light stuff makes so much more sense. So much less heat in the sun, and where bikers are riding tje most? In fookin sunny places around the world!

I care about none of the pros and cons. Only thing I care about is to get the best quality and functionality I need, for the best price. No jacket ever has made me feel safer, or more visible, or something like that. Doesn't matter all that much if you're a hi-viz daddy or not if you don't have good habits, decent riding skills or make improper decisions. Plus as far as crash statistics tell us, most accidents don't even involve another vehicle if I remember correctly. So mainly, color is the least of people's problems. Best gear for the best price you can afford is the way to go for me at least.
