I was a stitch bitch as well but on the USMC side. Did you go to school at NATTC Memphis? I know they moved the school to Pensacola in 1997 or 1998 (I attended in 1996). My school was mixed branches so it was Marines, Navy and Air Force.

Suggestion, you could use a case/rock tumbler with abrasive stones to weather leather etc. before you add them on to work to get the look just right!

Those older Schott jackets were the best. They made jackets for Harley Davidson for some time. If you've got a Schott HD jacket, you've got a collectors item.

11:59 looks much better than adding an extension to the end of the sleeve which most of these i've seen do. Also adds to the design, looks nice with that strip you're pointing at.

I know what's like working with a bad thumb Steve. I lost one of mine at 4yrs old and about 4-5 yrs ago I sliced my good one length wise and boy I was a mess working with 8 fingers and 1/2 a thumb for a few weeks! Lol Nice work on the jacket it looks great 👍🏻

Good job. Reminds me of the time a friend asked me to lengthen the sleeves on a suit jacket. I'm just a hobbyist tailor but he put his trust in me. After pulling the sleeves apart, I found enough extra material turned in at the cuffs for me to work about +1¾". Had to press out the original folds then remake cuff pleats and faux button holes at the new length. Hardest part, strangely, was adding extra length to the lining. Took me a while to work out. Result was good and my friend was happy with it.

Just to note: Sometimes a jacket can give 1-2in on the sleeves by applying lots of moisture and stretching from the center. Worth considering before making alterations.

Thumbs (out of all the fingers) to get hurt, suck the most. I stabbed my hand by mistake a few years back, lost some functionality in my pointer, but i can still type extremely fast on a keyboard because i learnt to work around it, but when i nearly decapped my thumb... oh boy. I felt it in everything i do, from using keys to holding a hammer or a box knife, even reading a freaking book was a chore. Opposable thumbs are the hottest slice since sliced bread and we really can't do without them.

In the crafts industry, cuts and scrapes heal faster because your constantly in paint thinner, turpentine etc., it tends to dry them up faster. Keep the bandage off and the wound clean as possible. It comes with the territory.

Steve: It is always instructional to see different types of projects that need different solutions. That is the secret to your creativity. At the beginning of the video, I try to guess how you will fix the jacket. I, of course, was wrong. A really elegant solution. If we hadn't seen the original, the extra panels would never be noticed. Thank you. (being super busy is what we call 'A Problem of Success')

worst case make them sign something that says this is what you requested and that its on the customer if it doesn't fit when done. this way they know for sure. I get you want them to be happy at the same time but at least this way you are covered in a case of someone not understanding that aftwards

If you would have added some leather at the seams of this jacket where the sleeves connect to the shoulders you would have been able to maintain this jackets appearance. With all due respect, it doesn’t look like a Scott Perfecto anymore, Bro.
