I'm learning too, and endbell timing, boost timing, and turbo timing all act differently, and you might want to tune your motor timing different depending if you blinky stock or not. Here's a great site about modern brushless motor timing, read the 4 pages about timing. pphaneuf.github.io/rccars/articles/motor-timing-theory/

I love that in this hobby you can tune so much stuff, feels like you’re in a pit of an f1 car. ( found a second hand xb4 400€ i could buy)

The plastic tube is for removing and replacing the stator due to the strong magnets in the motor.

No surprise the timing gauge is off, it’s the reason why they offer a “qualified “ version😎. Be safe, our ICU cases in SoCal are now steadily going up as business “ reopen”. Happy racing!

I just go by temp. I’m in LA so is quite hot here. I run my car 150 max temp. But when it’s cold here I run mine about 35-40 degree..XR10 pro 7.5 .. but if I was to look for speed more top end I will increase my spur gear lower my pinion.. you right now you have very large pinion so you have lots of acceleration. It’s good for jumping in short timing. I usually find a combo of both or more likely a little bit more top end.

You got your pinion talk mixed up I think. Smaller pinion is less speed more accel, larger pinion more top speed. Opposite for spur size. Combine and do the math to get a FDR (final drive ratio) appropriate for your track.

Do you have a longer torque rotor (12.5mm) in there or a shorter rpm rotor (12.3mm)? Are you hitting max rpms/top speed on the back straight? You want to make sure your gearing is low enough to hit the higher rpms when running more timing so that you are spinning more in the high rpms where the higher timing has a bigger benefit. Also a good idea to check temps with no fan on to make sure you're still in decent temp range, the fan should be used to keep you out of the borderline area, not as a fix when your motor would normally run way too hot. Check out some of Schuurspeed videos where they talk about this. BTW, almost all motors don't post true timing on their motor, it's more of a +timing (onto the stock timing, e.g. the base 15 degrees in your case).

I don’t know the rotor size, yes I’m hitting max on the straight (by feel it peaks 3/4 down the straight). Interesting they the gauge can be timing ontop of base timing, if they said that somewhere I didn’t see it. Anyway I’m getting an analyzer myself and will do more testing learning. Honestly MOD has taken over locally again so I doubt I’m keeping this 17.5 in very long. Likely go 13.5 or more next.

Gearing would change everything on performance, you could have tried a bigger pinion until the car doesn’t perform well and runs too hot for a 10 minute main. Then go back a tooth. That’s one of the ways we did it in the brushed/olden days.

I thought 6 amps was the reading racers aim for. So seeing the motor was coming back fairly cool I would have gone up a tooth on the pinion instead of changing the timing.

Most ESC's are programmable. Would you do this and then still adjust the timing in the ESC as well? Thanks

Ähm, on your motor test in your car the ESC was blinking or power on from the tester, is this ok?

Yeah I’ve heard those are great. Also I’ve seen R1 Wurks and it’s blistering fast for a 17.5. Also Team Scream Racing are great.

The motor analysis isn’t effected by the esc being soldered on to motor?

You have some tainted data.. Your track is very loose, low bite.. its hard to tune a motor when its that loose. But I did learn alot. Im looking to buy the analyzer

Pretty confusing to me u got a brushless motor that has adjustible timing and you call it stock ?? Back in my day a stock motor was ONLY ever a 540 brushed johnson .. and on competitions you paid for and were given a new one that you had to use.
