Motoped Survival Bike 49cc first impressions / DOT upgrades

Ойын-сауық

I've had the Motoped Survival bike 49cc 2 weeks now, and wanted to share some of the first thoughts I've had as well as upgrades that are legally required to rode this bike on the road in North Carolina and some other states (moped registration required).

Thanks for the time & effort you put into producing this video. I have the 49cc Survival bike (took a year to get!), and Colorado licensing rules are extremely lax compared to your state (only requirement for a 'low powered scooter' registration is 49cc & insurance). But the safety features you added on are important regardless of regulations, so I really appreciate you putting this together (and especially the links!).

Excellent review Michael. I like the mods you did to it. The micro switch arrangement is great, and I love the idea of the laser perimeter. This kind of bike might be a good option for my daughter soon. Thanks for posting this.

OK, front fender ordered, winglights ordered, basecamp taillight ordered. I have same bike but Lifan 125cc semi auto. I absolutely love this bike. 55mph top speed but I cruise around 35mph mostly. I'll post a video soon after my parts come in. Great job on your bike.

good job man your mods came out clean. but you are 100% right im looking at 125cc small bikes they remind me of when i was a kid had no license but someone always had some dirbikes we could ride around town and be hooligans with but they are just fun overall. i want the grom but they are like 4k or so out the door. so i been seriously thinking of the ssr razkull for half the price. this is a cool bike though. and i guess its not too much out of the price range they are asking for these small bikes though i do believe they should be trying to get it full street legal and down to the 2500 or less price range brand new. esp when 250s and some 300s are only 1k more then these. though there is really no other bike like a 125. you can also change the gearing to get more torque and lose a little top end. usually the front is the cheaper one to change. but also if you want a real offroad one just get a japanese dirt bike they are only like 1k or less used on craigslist and they are a lot more fun then this for off road. these remind me more of city running bikes. now you just need a speedo and a fuel guage. but these can accept the 212cc engines i believe so you can really mod this to your liking which i think is also a +. and i think though its a little pricey and bigger bikes are cheap used and even new they still arent what these are little mess around 125s that are really a lot of fun. there is also a saying its fun to drive a slow bike fast but driving a fast bike slow isnt very fun.

I am wondering if the 125cc has a geared transition or is it just a single gear because i found both a 125cc engine and a 140cc engine both 4 speed that would fit the 140 come with an electrical wire harness would really like to find out.

If you had to buy the bike - and I don't recommend you buy the bike - I recommend you take the money you would have spent and buy a used adventure motorcycle (small one like the KTM Duke for example). - if you absolutely had to buy this bike and had a gun to your head, I'd recommend the 125cc - but don't buy either if you don't have to. It's a novelty purchase.
