I still have an old Samsung S9 + with a broken screen that goes dark most of the time pretty much impossible to see anything on it. I have it setup on a 60" TV running Emulators and other games using Dex mode and a PS4 controller paired to it 😄 this is one of the reasons why i always keep my old phones when i switch to a new one

I use Dex most days & love it, but i'm looking forward to seeing the competition push the development of desktop interfaces on phones even further. Dex is amazing, but has bugs, & more competition will hopefully make them all better.

Ha! take that Samsung. Healthy competition is always good for the customers. For those who have placed Moto on the back burner in recent years this may peek their interest Of course it's it's up to Moto to market the hell out of this feature as far as some other youtubers are concerned that's another story, If it isn't Apple or Samsung forget it they're not interested.

@@PSYCHOV3N0M About the Xperia 1's 4K resolution, it was actually a cropped 21:9 resolution from a native 16:9 canvas. You notice that the width in landscape (aka height in portrait) is still 3840 px. That is because there is still no smartphone SOC that can truly support 2160p landscape height (aka portrait width) in native 21:9 format to date. I won't be surprise to see Sony give 5040x2160 px resolution on future Xperia 1 model if there is an off-the-shelf SOC with such a resolution compatibility.

In the near future I see the biggest use-case for these kinds of devices filling that gap of needing a cheap phone and cheap laptop/chromebook for the kids or the older folks. When my father-in-law's windows laptop finally dies, I'll only have to be tech support for ONE device. Face it: for a good percentage of the market, most people could do what they do with a web-browser, and maybe some light office apps if they didn't want to use a browser-based solution. Add the ability to do light video and audio editing (butt-cuts, titles, moving clips) and that would seal the deal for a lot of grandmas out there.

Opera now has a Desktop-Feel on Mobile that lets you change it to a more Desktop-UI friendly system as Samsung Internet Browser and Chrome/Edge does. Opera GX and Firefox are still stuck as a mobile system sadly. It's also good to see Android 12 version will be more refined then it's Android 11 which is what the Edge 2021/G100/Old Edge+ are stuck on. But G100/Edge-2021 will get 12 and hopefully these will be way better and for cheap it'll bring more interest for Ready-For.

Hi Juan. Thanks for all your videos. Got a question if you have a moment. I watched your unboxing video, the "your reactions" video, and this one. Since your setup was off-camera in the unboxing video, I'm confused about one thing: Does this phone work *_wired_* to your NexDock? How does it hook up? Single USB-C for video, keyboard & trackpad? I thought Motorola publicly said ReadyFor was wireless only, which to me would defeat the purpose, because it requires you have a fully functional OS on your laptop in order to use your phone as your laptop. Plus wireless lag and/or requiring Wi-Fi doesn't sound awesome if you're trying to write an email in a hotel or something.

  • @KillerRaptorr

Edge 2021 is wireless only. It's USB C port is only 2.0 which is data only no video output. So you could still broadcast it to a nexdock (if it's got wireless compatibility.) and use the wired connection for mouse/keyboard functions. But G100/200 and Edge+ 2020/2022 versions are all wired compatibile (USB-C 3.1 +displaylink.) Which allows for wired video output and data. Though G100/200 and Edge+ 2020 are on Android 11. So no wireless right now. But G100/200 will get android 12 and get wireless Ready For mode, Along with the Ready For 3.0 improvements. (No update for Edge+ 2020 sadly.)

Agreed. It's great on my G100 in its current iteration and very snappy. Along with web apps, it's quite impressive how close just a phone has come to replacing a desktop. Still, it could be improved with the addition of window snapping / tiling, as having to manually drag and size windows is tedious. It would also be good to be able to put two chrome windows side by side. Also, this isn't a Moto thing, but it would also be fantastic if Google got around to putting in keyboard shortcuts into its Android OS apps so they worked the same as web apps when used on a browser.

It's likely G100 will get Ready For 3.0. Since the G100 will now get Wireless Ready For casting. And it'll likely be soon, Since Edge+ 2022 is on Android 12 native. So the upgrade being over a year for G100/Edge 2021 is not likely to far. Few months maybe or less.

SO this COULD be it! Finally!! Samsung phones struggle with killing apps in the background. How about Motorola? I really need a more polished multitasking experience. Dex caches apps minimized to the taskbar and removes them out of active memory. This way websites often reload when maximizing to fullscreen. Even switching from one maximized browser window to another often reloads websites. I know you can use "The long live app" function with multistar but it only works with one app at a time. Does ready for do better?

I use castto - screen mirroring app on the phone and airscreen app on the firestick. That isn't really ready for to me. That is just mirroring that can be done with pretty much any phone. I have a wireless display adapter dongle (uses no wifi). If I use a Motorola edge+ 2022 with that, I think that is ready for (wireless). Using the cable connection for ready for is best way to get best picture quality and best response. Don't forget that you are using a monster size 70" TV (maybe 4k) so naturally a 1080p device can't put out the best picture quality on a large 4k tv. Somewhat similar to people using an old video game system on a large 4k TV. It is why some people use older crtv or 720p lcd because they put out a clearer picture. If the quad hd moto z2 force had the ready for capability, I think it would put out better picture because of its quad HD high resolution screen.

I just did mirror display with both my firestick and also Chromecast with my old moto g stylus 2020. With my firestick, I needed to download a mirror app though but the mirroring works great with both firestick and Chromecast. I don't see any difference in picture quality. Remember your internet connection is being used by both the phone and firestick. If you have strong internet connection, the better connection and less lag. Wired is better because of the direct connection. Ready For (wireless) isn't that much different than mirror. I can mirror from my Samsung a54 5g as well. They call it "smart view". The Samsung Galaxy a54 5g doesn't support dex. The big benefit of the Ready For is the desktop experience and the wired connection. The wired connection would definitely give you more responsive experience especially with gaming. I have weak internet connection but it still works fine with me. No reason to mirror any video streams as I would just use the apps on the firestick/Chromecast. Get a usb-c to HDMI cord and plug the phone into a HDMI slot into your television. They are cheap. It would absolutely make the screen better and responsive. That is why we see ready for and dex being used as a desktop with a monitor. No need for any special dock as the cheap cord works fine. Skip any middleman (firestick Miracast) and any possible data degradation. I can't do that with my stylus phones as it lacks video out through usb-c. Keyboard and mouse would be way more responsive. I used a Bluetooth keyboard with a small laptop to a television with wall interference and there was lag when typing. It worked but little slow but I also have slow internet so that is also a factor.

If they can bring the feature to their equivalent of Samsung's A series it would be big and get in the hands of more folks. Same if DEX were to be on the Samsung A series line at least the high end versions of that line.

I love Ready For on my G100, however it hasn't gotten this newer version yet of Ready For. I hope I get it when I get the Android 12 update.

@@stevepogue1124 Both. I remember seeing Tim Schofield's video about a year ago regarding Ready For and he used a 2020 Edge+ and it got Ready For via the Android 11 update and for sure the newest Edge+ this year has it.

Hello can you please make a video in English and focus on the TV function of the ready for app. Nobody has been doing it. The idea is to see the performance of the remote mode on the phone and see if it could simulate Android TV box experience. Can you add apps like Netflix, KZread and other VOD application you can have, maybe even a tv app if you have. This way we can see how the apps display in full screen and see how the remote is responsive with the interface.

Oh thank God a solution I was getting frustrated last night from my galaxy s10 throwing me into a loop because samsungs OWN drivers would not work either the older or newer versions were just broken, I tried everything. It's dumb really. It should be straightforward but it's not

That's a bummer. So sorry to hear that. If you can test drive this, it might be a good alternative.

I think Dex also scales upto 3440x1440p. I am not sure if Dex goes upto 3840x2160. All these are not so significant, what's significant is ANDROID 13's support for KVM 🔥

I haven't seen Dex scale up to true UHD from a phone. It just bums me out that you have to jump through some hoops to get 1440p where RF just goes "sure, here you go".
