    Fantastic review , I’m a 55 year old male from Australia, I’m buying a new one ☝️ next week for some of what you said plus others . 1. Wanting to slow myself down - after a serious motorcycle accident ( so less HP ) 2. Shaft drive - not chain maintenance 3. Large tank for touring 4. Cruise Control for touring and stuffed wrist 5. I like the look of the bike and as you say it’s different and timeless. 6. And the old school engine. Great 👍 review

    I recently bought my Guardia D'Onore and added heated grips. It is everything I think an adventure bike should be and look like. It handles beautifully and is a real joy to ride. The power is more than sufficient and I would not trade any of the fuel economy for more power. I also do not have any issues with the throttle at any speed. it is always smooth so maybe they fixed it. In short I love my Moto Guzzi and really enjoy having something different from the masses.

    I also chose the Guardia D'Onore because it was the best value for me since it came with most of the accessories for a good price. I also added the heated grips at the time of purchase and my only issue is one of the panniers is tricky to close.

    I think you nailed it right on the head with this review... I don't think MG cut too many corners with the V85TT 850...You mentioned it has a driveshaft which is a big plus. It also has cruise control, Brembo brakes, Michelin tires, but no center-stand. This would be (for me) a great bike for a change of pace on a Sunday afternoon ride, to enjoy the feel of the wind and autumn colours. I like it's timeless looks and colour and think it would get many compliments while I was parked having my Tim Horton's coffee. In my garage I would like to have a, BMW GS1250, Yamaha FJR1300 and this V85TT. Again, great review & stay safe!

    Definitely a lot of effort has been put into the bike. Shaft drive? This alone shows that they wanted to create something very specific that stands up to Moto Guzzi's vision. Does that vision suit everybody? No vision ever does. I've got to say that this bike indeed does give a different vibe than others.

    I’ve had my Marco Polo MG for a year now and I absolutely love it! You nailed pretty much all the reasons. I’d like to expand on the sweet handling especially on canyon roads and through traffic. I’ve ridden it minimally so far off road and it was surprisingly confidence inspiring, also nicely set up for stand up riding without the need to add bar risers. In short, it’s a delight to ride! I did decat and throw on an Agostini end pipe on and that opened up the sound and top end power hugely.

    The most important range of speed for motorbikes is between 60 and 130 km/h. That's where everybody likes to ride. Midsize motorbikes are excellent for this speed-range. Solid torque and low-rev power is an advantage for riding in this speed-range. So there is absolutely no need for having more power and most of the very strong bikes are also heavy and ponderous to handle. 100hp plus is nonsense.

  • @VToldsMotoShow

    @VToldsMotoShow

    I say that it depends on what one enjoys. In terms of handling, a heavy BMW R1250GS feels like a feather ones you start rolling which is an amazing feeling. It's actually very similar to the Guzzi here. But it's got plenty more power and torque which to me is enjoyable and I'd pay more to have it. So yeah, it depends on a rider most likely.

    How Lucky I am! Considering buying a v85 tt travel, i watched your complete review today and Just in 2 hours your second video ;) thank you very much. I value your opinion and want to ask your general view on my situation. I am 50 years old and have been riding for 20+ years mwny bikes. Recently I sold my old gs1200 and bought an xmax250cc scooter for in-town rides. I also want something for 1 up travels. Tested the latest versions of suzuki vstrom650 and yamaha tracer7. I liked the super comphy and relaxed ride feeling of vstrom and vivid character of tracer7. The former is a better travel mule whereas Yamaha is sportier. 70hp and 60nm is more than enough for me, i like to travel at around 110-120 km/h at most. Both satisfies this need. On the other hand v85 has a huge plus over 2 competitors. Shaft! Switching from 10+ years of chain bikes to a GS was a great change for me. I really do not want to go back to chain again. However, there is no opportunity to test a v85tt so i have to rely on online reviews like yours. Althoug 3 bikes have similar power figures on paper, i am sure v85 looses maybe 30% of it on the rear wheel?.. If i watch your video on 8 reasons for not buying it, i would probably not buy one. So, what would be your choice in my shooes ;) ?

    I only now got to your comment. I totally see the benefits of the shaft drive as I value it a lot myself. However, despite this preference, not having it in a bike that suits me more overall wouldn't be a deal breaker. There's a solution in a form of a device automatically lubricating the chair in any chain-driven bike. I was using such a solution myself and it fixes some of the issues with chain. Can also expand its lifetime. V-Strom 650 is known for years to be a great allrounder with fantastic levels of comfort - at least the 1st generation was always described this way and I can confirm that myself. I assume that the current/new model is only better in terms of that. One think that it can give you that I'm not sure V85 TT can is wind protection. Since you mentioned traveling at 110-120 km/h, at such speeds, this may matter. I doubt that there are 30% losses due to a chain - I wouldn't worry about it at all but this bike definitely isn't quick. V-Strom 650 isn't either though. Knowing that you're coming off of a 1200 GS, your bar may be set very high and I wouldn't be surprised if sooner or later you'd be peeking at a new GS despite what you'd choose now :). I had a chance to ride an X-Max 250 for some time too by the way. If I were you and was presented with the choice of the 3 mentioned bikes, so V-Strom 650, Tracer 7 and V85 TT, I'd look more... Considering your previous bike, on a V-Strom 650 you could feel the most like at home - if you can swallow its design which I personally could not. Tracer 7 might be too much of a toy while V85 TT, well... tough one but if you like its style and wouldn't be bothered with a short windscreen or would get a tall one that wouldn't spoil the bike's look, then maybe this could really be the way to go?

    Two major bike magazines (Motociclismo and Motorrad) did a 50,000 km long test with the V85TT and nothing happened. Reading in forums: small oil leaks from the rear region of transmission had been caused by excessive fill up with oil, while the knocking-like sound from the heads, while accelerating in lower RPMs with very hot engine, was revealed as innocent noise and was removed with new setups, readily delivered by Moto Guzzi

    Interesting you mentioned the R1250RT - I've been riding one recently and hope to make a video review - perhaps comparing to my V85TT ;-) You can have an early spoiler - I think the TT is a better touring bike. There, I said it 😅. On the bumpy welsh roads, I think the TT's suspension is actually better than the RT's. It's like being on a trampoline on the beemer over the crests and bumps - poor damping. Other than that, it feels like the Moto Guzzi has won you over a little bit 🙂

    Dear V-told, Thanks for your very complete impressions about the bike. The thing here, is that we can’t compare this bike with the RT. They are not competing on the same championship, as a matter of speech. It’s a mistake if we go on into comparisons like this that. Yes, the moto Guzzi can be compared to the BMW 850 GS, and lose, but to be fair the RT is another story and I’m not going there. It’s a world of difference. If I want a bike to do some short rides the VTT 85 can be an option but a Yamaha tenere 700 or a KTM 890 can be equivalent options to do that kind of riding . If we want to cross frontiers the choice has to be different. And here, the question is:- Who and how am I going to be assisted outside Europe or Italy on a big tour of thousands of Kms if MG is the bike I’m riding? If I go to Africa, will I have service of the brand there? If I need a mechanic and parts for the bike, will they be available there? If we want to ride a bike that is rare and fun just to tour around your residence town or between two cities near each other, the Moto Guzzi can be that bike. Other than that, you must be a real adventure or adventurous rider to choose doing so. If you just need the bike to cruise on Sunday rides, it can be perfectly your bike of choice. It’s an interesting bike for that purpose.✌️✌️

  • @VToldsMotoShow

    @VToldsMotoShow

    Жыл бұрын

    Right, RT is a different league yet its suspension's behavior when riding over bumps and elevations resembles what V85 TT does. Also, both have a driveshaft! But sure - as you said - different worlds. It's enough to look at wind protection which in Moto Guzzi even with an aftermarket windscreen won't match RT or most larger ADV bikes due to a lack of adjustment. Trip to Africa? That's an interesting one today considering how complicated all these bikes can get. Taking an older bike is also risky, so not sure that there is any good option. Or wait... there may be - TWO: Toyota Corolla and Toyota Hilux :). Thanks for sharing the perspective, I appreciate it!

    First of all its engine isn't very punchy, so if you push it, it doesn't feel right - it feels like it's struggling. Then when changing gears quickly, this particular bike's transmission was at times not engaging next gears and this obviously doesn't help. Not much wind protection works against high speeds while also comfy suspension makes you enjoy relaxing rides more. On the other hand, it handles fantastic and so this would encourage you to push it. But the first points are stronger than this last one, hence the conclusion. I hope this helps.
