Absolutely! Motley has many great songs, but the album with Corabi was consistently great, most every song was a good song, not a hooky pop metal song, but just great rock and roll!

Motley Crue are my favourite all time band, and the album with John on it was my favourite of the lot. Absolutely loved it when it came out and it influenced me massively.

I was in sixth grade and Too Fast & Shout were the shit for my friend & I. We were all in. We went to shows & bought every album, even some rare ones they had. I really loved my room with the Crimson tapestry and black pentagram. The Crew was our favorite for years. After Feelgood we were so pissed about the breakup. We just felt so invested. We did not give that album a chance, at all. We were in no form alone on that. It was a shame. Now, I think it is an awesome album. Back then I wouldn't even look at it. That's how it rolls, I guess.

Great album

John took Motley Crue to a level of heaviness they haven't had before or since. That self-titled Crue album had the most massive-sounding guitars and drums they ever recorded.

Oh, what a load of bullshit. Nothing from that genre was going to sell. People got sick of it and went on to better things.

That album is massively under-rated. Yes, it's self-indulgent and over-produced but it sounds incredible and the songs kick ass.

@@jaysonraphaelmurdock8812 Somewhere on KZread is Corabi's incredible cover of Van Halen's "Hot For Teacher",for he would have made a splendid Van Halen singer but would have got into heavy conflict with Eddie Van Halen had he been in that legendary band. And speaking of EVH,maybe Cotabi ought to consider quitting heavily chainsmoking as he is here as though he is heavily frustrated upon how his Crue days ended.

Hooligans Holiday is my favorite Crue song.

You can tell that John is an authentic, no bullshit kinda' guy, he's telling it as it is. That Crue album is sickly underated, and so is he as a singer.

His record with Crue is awesome., heavy lyrics, heavy riffs, Tommy Lee... It's definitely one of my favorite albums, standout track, "Poison Apple", killer tune and my old band covered "Loveshine", great open mic tune as well. Looking forward to more of these!

"Welcome To The Numb" & "Smoke The Sky", were my favorite songs. And, as a drummer myself, that album was Tommy's best work of ANY Crue album! 🔥❤🥁

John's Mötley 94 album is a killer. His stuff with UNION is so much underrated. Their 2 studio albums are awesome. A must have for all serious real Rockers. 🤘🤘

That album, seems to me, has kinda become a 'cult-favorite.' There is a group of people that love it, and lots of die-hard Vince Neil fans who hate it. Those of us who love it, accepted it for what it was and didnt think about Vince. That was just an awesome album.

I never understood the whole "vince is better" thing... Vince made solo albums. Why not enjoy both? I get it if they didn't like the style of music... but then just listen to the Vince solo albums and be on with it (which, both of that era were good). The band was dysfunctional for whatever reason at that time. Wasn't Corabi's fault.

Ok.. So I'll disagree with that then. I've met John Corabi a couple of times when he was in Sydney about 9 years ago and 14 years ago and it wasn't just a five minute thing. When he was here in 2012 I was standing next to him as he was chatting to some people I knew outside the pub in Enmore for about 20 minutes. Actually he hung out in the pub in Enmore all night. We left him alone for the most part(apart from the fact that there was a taped off VIP section which he stayed in.. The leave me alone section) as he was preferring to socialize/interact with a couple of the local gig chicks that night. He definitely did not treat myself or anyone who was speaking with him like a best friend(not that you would really expect that). I didn't think he was that approachable. But he was sociable yet reserved. Polite.. Chilled.. Matter of fact and a bit indifferent. It's interesting when you actually meet someone in person for a while then later on hear different peoples perspective of what they are like.. But you actually know.. As you have met them.

Massive talent and a great guy...got to talk to him a few times at some of his smaller shows. Couldn't ask for a more humble down to earth person. The Crüe album he sings on will always be my favorite album by that band.

So many great songs on this album! Power to the music, hooligans holiday, uncle jack, misunderstood, loveshine, till death do us part, smoke the sky, and dropping like flies are just so well made and produced.

Wow I’ve heard a lot of guys try to describe the industry and what happened back then and John hit this on the head.The good bands are gonna rise to the top.And the industry always shoots itself in the foot.Well put John

What I think was ridiculous about this era is that the record companies are the ones who gave the bands their looks and had writers come in to help write songs that would be hits, and then they cut all the bands because they did what they told them to do. Mark Slaughter's interview touched on that and it's so true. Imagine if the record companies did that to all the 70s bands in the early 80s. We'd have never gotten any of Van Halen's 80's music, or Aerosmith's Pump, or Bowie's albums, just to think of a few. The labels used to cultivate careers - for good or for bad. If the bands sold records, they kept investing in them. That didn't happen with the 80s bands. They were still selling records and they were all mocked and cut from labels for no real good reason. Multiple styles of rock could have continued to exist together.

i spoke with Mick Mars son (Les Paul Deal) he told me in an interview without a doubt , his dad loved the record with John Corabi on vocals . it was Mick Mars favorite Motley record....as well as mine. John is a talent for sure.

I was disappointed they didn't do a 2nd album with John, he's amazing.

It would've been a waste of the money it cost to produce. The first album didn't sell well. Why make the same mistake twice? No one was gonna get used to Motley without Vince any time soon.

Loved this interview! I like most of Motley's stuff but the Corabi album was stellar. Great songs. Great sound. And I think Swine would have been much stronger with his vocals on it. I like it with Vince, but Corabi matched the song styles more. I loved The Scream CD too. One thing that stands out about me with John is that after he joined Motley - which was before the Internet was a 'thing' - Metal Edge used to publish the addresses for how to write to the bands. For some reason, I wrote John a quick letter saying how much I enjoyed the CD with him. The dude wrote back... sent me a postcard with a Crab on it and thanked me and let me know he used to vacation with his family near where I lived. Fan for life after that... loved the Union CDs too....

Great interview. He really nailed what was going on with the band and the industry. The Motley Crue album is still one of my favorites and still holds up today.

I thought he was Rob Zombie at first. His album with the Crue is my favorite. I saw them with Type O Negative and King's X.

Corabi was great in his previous bands and he added another dimension to the Crue when he did that one album with them. That album was one of their best in my opinion!! He not only is a great singer but he plays guitar too. It's a shame the way that he was let go and he really did get the shaft !! He was waaaaay more talented than Vince !! Glad that he's still rockin 👍🏻🎸

Best comment ever, Sixx said how great Corabi was, how much better he made the band, then when the Album didn't do that well, not Corabi's fault, it was 1992 -94 as grunge took over, but long, short, The hypocrite Nikki all of a sudden wanted Vince back, definitely it was all about the Benjermans , PERIOD Corabi made them a powerful Machine

@@kevinstrang11 Nikki's biggest mistake was running his mouth about John instead of continuing to support him. He could've said "Look, i loved having John in the band. He's got a great voice and he brought something new to the table, but we have to make money to survive, so we're rehiring Vince."

Some people don't like to see bands 'grow up'. Crue, with Corabi, tried to grow up but got scared of the back lash.

Many of the bands of that time tried to "grow up" a bit. Warrant's 90s stuff was not Cherry Pie; Winger took on a more bluesy sound; Extreme stripped down the music a bit; Leppard recorded "Slang," which is still a fresh-sounding album IMHO. Not allowing the bands to grow painted them in corners. Not every band should be AC/DC and record the same sounding music for 40 years.

That Motley Crue album is very underrated.

1994 self-titled MOTLEY CRUE album is a masterpiece of groove, heaviness, and attitude. Loved it then and it stands the test of time even in 2021. Awesome record from start to finish.

John’s Motley album is by far the best Motley album. Amazing album. Crue were never the same in regards to studio output after the Motley album. I really wish they had have have the nerve to stick it out with John.

I keep wondering why this guy is not a bigger rock star. He is awesome. Top 3 vocalist in my book. Skid Row should have hired him as Bach's replacement

Wasn't a big Motley Crue fan but I love the Corabi album.

Damn I miss Crabs in The Dead Daisies, such a fantastic vocalist, great interview!

Crue 94 is Crue's best album musically and lyrically. For a lot of their die hard fans it just wasn't Motley but I love that album. John a nice guy and loved Dead Daisies when he was in them as well. Great live band.

I heart John. I will never forget him when he was in Ratt opening for Warrant in Austin,TX at the good ole BackRoom bar. Some douche was sticking the finger at John for a full 15-20 minutes finally John got into it with him and nearly jumped him from the stage!

This with John was a serious Motley Crue. By far the best Crue album ever. 🤘

That album they did is so good and so heavy. I wished they did another record under the Motley Crue record......

I remember the day Generation Swine came out. My buddy and I (both die hard Crue fans) rushed to the record store to get it. We got the album, got in his car, and put the CD into the stereo and we hated it so much. It was so bad. We still talk about that day, "Dude, remember when we first heard Generation Swine and how pissed we were about it?" I think he went back into the store and returned it. John is right...they were trying to be something they very much were not.

he is so cool I met him in person before a CREW's concert and I said to my GF look that's JOHN the singer for MC and walked up to him to say hello, and he was surprised that someone had recognized him... he signed our tickets and shook our hand gratefully! AWESOME RECORD AND LIVE SHOW... those were the days! 94'

Never heard of him... ;-) ... lol... I met John my 1st ever night out in Hollywood, seeing Angora at Troubadour, before I joined Tuff late June 1987. The NICEST guy ever... love me some Crab!

Impressed with his being humble and certainly 'not...speaking disparagingly of Vince, during this interview. what a guy. didn't need to 'bash'...or talk shit about anything. just...his experience being asked to have a look at the recently vacated spot of lead singer in MC. Yeah...Corabi seems like a really cool, solid, mature guy. Awesome.

Let It Scream is, to my ears, 70's Aerosmith with late 80's production. Just about every song is an absolute banger, if it had been 1987-88, threw 'em on the road opening for Crue, Aerosmith, Poison, whoever.... they would have moved a couple million. Just a year or two late....but man, that '94 album is so GOTdamn good. If you don't know already, get Corabi's live "One Night in Nashville", he does the entire '94 record straight through with a six piece band including his son on drums. You'd swear it was Tommy playing. It is an unbelievable record.

Seeing the Scream in Santa Barbara 2 nites in a row was epic!!!

John is a great guy...not what you would expect. And always does a great show no matter how many people he is playing with...or by himself.

Until quite recently, I had never heard the self-titled Crue album. Then I did, and wow. And then I got to hear Union, The Dead Daisies and Scream. And I bought his book too. What a guy, I totally admire him as an artist and person.

MC needs to give him a call for this next tour to replace Vince Meal.

One of the all time great voices in rock. I'm surprised this excerpt completely omits UNION. Blue Room is eponymous and features some of the strongest writing from Corabi and whoever he happens to be writing with,notwithstanding its the band he spent far longer with. As much as UNION is Kulick and Fitz, it's some of Jon's best work. I'm not sure if it's just my opinion, sense it's more of stating the obvious. Awesome history lesson. That album is a masterpiece. Poison Apples is my 2nd favorite Crue song ever, next to Wildside, which is my all time #1 by anyone from the 80s (and 90s). No idea about Scott Travis in The Scream.

That 1994 motley Crue album kick major ass in my opinion it's one of my favorites out of the motley Crue catalog that one and too fast for Love and shout at the devil are my best three motley Crue albums in my opinion p

CRUE 94 blew the door wide open for hard rock music and had it a different band name, it would have been the highest point of development and achievement for 90s and 2000 rock. The masses would have devoured it.

I loved the band Union.. i only hope to see another album with John and Bruce . Loved their stuff.

They were heavier than fuck when he was in the band. Mopped the floor with soundgarden etc when that record came out. They sounded like a real band and not fluff. MC94 killed.

John, I don’t know if you’ll ever see this or not, but you were the perfect fit for this band, and the music on that first album was fucking awesome. You don’t give yourself enough credit dude! Looking back, that music kept up with, or outshined soundgarden, Alice, or Nirvana, which were also my most listened to favorite bands along with gnr and Metallica. Be proud brother!

SCREAM'S one album is AMAZING! i saw last gig of '94 MC Tour@Hollwd Palladium; jaw droppin! 'You Are All I Need' the ballad from Scream is up there with Dream On, Sweet Child, Home & Sweet H. Corabi's vocals are outstanding!

This album is up there with my top three motley albums !

Brother my take on that first album you were involved in was absolutely 💯 slamming, yeah I was a big Vince fan but you sir bought in a new dynamic. I'm still listening to that album today
