Hey Peter (and fellow subscribers), here are a few extra tips: 1. 06:13 You don't have to NEST clips when using multiple effects. Instead you can use an Adjustment layer on top of the layer you want the effect applied to. This way you can see the keyframes (and visual ramps) in the same timeline. 2. 07:20 If you do NEST, add MARKERS where your keyframes are inside your NEST sequence. MARKERS will be visible in the (sequence)clip where the nested sequence is used. IMPORTANT: Add markers to the SEQUENCE TIMELINE and NOT TO THE CLIP. De-select the clip and start adding markers. 3. Instead of using Directional Motion Blur (and keyframing it), try using Pixel Motion Blur (or a plugin called ReelSmartMotionBlur) which creates the motion blur according to the pixel data in the footage almost automatically when speed ramping occurs. Just set the parameters to your liking and you are good to go (sure in some cases a bit of a tweak here-and-there might be necessary). Sure this effect might create some weird artifacts if the footage is complex, but if the footage is fast - you can't notice them during playback. -Joonas

Hey Peter! If you want to have a visual indicator of your speed ramping keyframes, double click and open your nested sequence. In your nested sequence (the one with the speed ramped footage), add markers ("M" is the default shortcut) at the same points as your speed ramping keyframes. When you go back to your main sequence, those markers will show up on your nested sequence as clip markers.

TiP: Instead of nesting, just use an adjustment layer where you want the blur on your speed ramp. This let's you still see the speed ramp curves to precisely place the blur. Just drag the blur effect into the adjustment layer. This also allows you to go back and make easier adjustments to your speed ramp if needed..

Just a quick tip to save you a few seconds, don't bother keying the direction of the blur. Set it to your desired direction and leave it there. Control the effect with the blur length only, otherwise you'll get a rotation of the blur angle during the key transition.

I got a camera 2 years ago for my birthday since then I have loved taking pictures as a hobby. One day my teacher asked me to help him film and I completely fell in love. I now spend every weekend volunteering my time to film a mini web series. What started as a hobby is now a passion and a huge part of my life. I can never see myself without it. I have always had a hard time in school between being bullied and just recently being diagnosed with dyslexia. When I am filming and learning about cameras it all melts away. Great tut, as always - thanks for that. One tip to speed up the search for the blur effect (don't know if someone in the 1.658 comments mentioned it) : double click of the nested clip, go to the beginning/end of the speed ramp and press "M" to set a mark. These markers are visible in the nested layer above. Pretty easy to find, no scrolling through the scene is necessary.

Shout out to PM for continuously inspiring, creating innovative content and critically thinking about how to use the tools at our disposal. Certainly feels like a boost when starting out. In saying that, we just launched our first video the other day - and thought PM's community may be a sweet area to connect and engage with other creators. What if we start this comment as a thread where creators can summarise their work in 20 words or less, and people can sift through the comments to find content they may be interested in. We'll start: Our series is an adventure vlog/bucket list documentation of Australia, focussing on the beautiful places close to home. Who's next? :-)
