Please imagine teaching 20 toddlers that they have to hide and stay quiet because a “bad person is coming” we make the comparison of hiding from the “big bad wolf” Please take a moment to imagine, first teaching the concept of an active shooter to a 3 year old, and then teaching them what to do in order to hopefully stay alive, all while making it seem like a fun game so you have their attention and they actually learn it, as it clearly is necessary in this country 😔

Here's a quote from an article about her book: Patricia Oliver, whose 17-year-old son, Joaquin, was among the 17 students and staff killed in the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, stressed that this new book, "Joaquin’s First School Shooting," is not for kids -- it's for lawmakers. "We felt this is a new way, a unique way, to make politicians understand," she told ABC News. "What better example than our own son?"

Not gonna lie, this hurt a lot to listen to. As a mother of 2 and one on the way, I understand the duality. On the one hand, it makes me feel kinda safe having guns under every rock here in the states. That alone is a deterrent to 'enemy forces.' But, the enemies can just watch us kill eachother at this point. We're doing their job for them. We need some sort of legislation, now. It's time.

i would say that our incomprehensibly powerful conventional military is the main deterrent to enemy forces. the only weakness our forces have is when facing irregulars. like mass shooters. if we read the 2nd, we see clearly why they wrote it. militias were once the way states defended themselves, that is no longer the case. the whole purpose of the 2nd amendment was made obsolete when we established a standing army. as of now, the presence of a gun has a higher chance of harming the owner than defending them form an assailant. i don't think we can or should take guns from responsible owners. what we should be doing is ensuring that irresponsible or domestically abusive people do not get their hands on them.

@@benc.enlots not when the purpose of the assault is to die by gunfire. when going out in a blaze of glory is the intent, putting MORE guns in a place will attract them more. not only that, school resource officers have proven to be inneffective at deterrance, and they reduce the safety of students of color. teachers are not soldiers, arming them without enough training means you have a poorly secured firearm within reach of children. giving them enough training takes away time from being a teacher.

TERRIFYING?? Really?! The number is not as high as you may think, especially after the government put laws into place a few years ago, that reduced the number of stabbings dramatically. Figures from the Office for National Statistics show 282 homicides were committed using a knife or sharp instrument in the year to March 2022, There were a total of 700+ homicides in the UK in 2022, including the 282 fatal stabbings. The USA, in 2021 had over 1000 murders by knife. Gun violence, just this year in the USA has already killed over 16,000 Americans. Read that again, in just 5 months, 16,000 Americans have been murdered by guns only, if that trend continues this year, the final number at the end of the year will be approx 33,000 lives lost to guns. Every year, over 6000 Children in the USA are murdered or injured by guns. Gun legislation WILL change the underlying problem, all you have to do is look at the low to almost zero number of mass shootings in those countries that chose to make childrens lives a priority and ban guns!
