Parkland Victim's Mother Anne Marie Ramsay Gives Final Statement Before Shooter's Sentencing
Victims’ families get their final say in court prior to the sentencing of the Parkland school shooter. The statements follow a nearly three-month trial, after which a jury of seven men and five women could not unanimously agree on the death penalty for the convicted killer, resulting in a life sentence.

I completely agree with all of this and what she said was so empowering and moving. I mean no disrespect. But as a health care worker and as someone who works in an ER, that is the law to take care of a pt no matter what they have done. By law we have to throw our bias out the window (we never actually do of course) but we MUST treat a pt. I get prisoners and people who have done horrible things in the ER all the time that have to be medically treated before they are sent back off to their facility. Pts are not just humans, they are pts. Every pt has a right whether we like it or not. We had a mass shooting ten years ago… the Aurora theater on the Batman screening night. You have no idea how hectic the ER can get/was. When a pt comes in for a GSW or in disaster protocol they are usually made a doe pt and HIPPA is put into place and they are made private. (This means we cannot tell anyone they are here - and we don’t know if they’re here if they’re a doe) We are at risk of losing our jobs and even facing criminal charges if we disclose any information to visitors/families/friends/media. I don’t always think this is ethical but these rules are there to overall protect the pt. Even if they don’t always make sense, and sometimes they just don’t. Our first priority is to keep the pt safe and then move on to family. It’s not easy, especially during a disaster protocol. There’s a reason they call it a disaster. What I’d like to say is that it really is not a societal issue or matter of respect when it comes to the hospital taking care of a criminal. This is the law that we must obey for ALL of our pts. I cannot imagine the trauma and heartbreak these healthcare workers have gone through, especially when they lose the children. The hospital is definitely going to have a hard time locating a deceased person especially when dealing with live victims from that same shooting. I think it was just chaotic. Not only did they have 17 bodies to identify but they were probably also trying to find contacts for those hospitalized. Cruz having been seen for mental health isn't really related to this. He has no remorse for what he did you stare at these families with that blank stare
RIP HELENA RAMSAY you left this physical world an angel. I sympathize for this mother as if she were mine and the racial injustice this faced while enduring the worst pain should be highlighted to the front of headlines . I’m sorry this mother had to bury her child because of this pure evil monster.
I feel that Mrs Ramsey is correct not to dissociate her daughter's death from racial prejudice. I feel that in her daughter's life experience, tragedy and race will always be intertwined. I am happy that her mother brought up that her daughter was disadvantaged due to her race. I feel that if her daugther were alive today, she would be extremely proud of what her mother have to say about her and her life experience. Because it's not just about her daughter's death, it's also about her daughter's life experience.

This brought me to tears. The personal nature of her story and the love just radiating from this mother to her baby. He is a true sociopath. No emotion, just a slight tip of the head as if he is confused. Surrounded by deputies, must be nice to be so protected. There's CO's that will turn a blind eye in prison. He won't last long. His days are numbered. Then true justice will have won.
YOUR STAT,EMT BROUGHT ME TO TEARS! YOUR DAUGHTER WAS VERY LUCKY TO HAVE YOU, I WISH I HAD A MOM LIKE YOU!🥰
Ms. Ramsey, it is painfully sickening to hear of the multiple times your family was not treated with the dignity and respect you all deserve. Helena is an angel taken way too soon. Ms. Ramsey, you are a very brave woman and a wonderful Mother. Your statement is powerful and impactful. Your story is heartbreaking. My God Bless you and your family. 💔
Bless this poor mother and all these families.
Shame on the court system
This is so heartbreaking 💔 So sorry for your loss .. you spoke so eloquently about your daughter God Bless you and your family 💜✝️
This made me cry. Not only did the school fail her daughter and family, but so did the hospital. I'm so sorry that her and her family got treated the way that they were. And I cannot imagine the hurt and loss that they feel.
Very well spoken and stated. Prayer's for peace 🙏🏾
I cannot even start imagining how unbearable to be kept waiting at that night.
She sounds like a wonderful mother. Helena sounded like a sweet little angel.
The poor woman and her family even had to be confronted with racism during such a harrowing experience! Shame on the system in Florida!
What a remarkable mother, bless her.
I love this ladies voice. Its' like she is telling the most lovely fairy tale but its the most horrid and heartbreaking true story. I just can't help but cry. I wept that Helena will never get to go to the museum with her mother. What a total loss of amazing life! ------- this trial has been so hard. I have had chest pains and had a panic attack today because I have watched this trial and got so attached to the families. I prayed for you all. I think after he goes back into the penal system never to return to the outside world, I will take a break. Maybe we can all breath just a little sigh of relief that one madman is locked away. Not a deep breath, but maybe just a sad sigh. Till the next time.............God, help us all!
Wow, really appreciate you sharing your loving relationship with your daughter. So beautiful how your daughter was so thankful to you, saying thank you mommy and meant it. You are right its amazing to see kids these days show genuine gratitude. How your daughter realized after finally getting accepted into the gifted class, she said something like, the class is not gifted but the kids are popular. Your daughter got it, she understood. Those qualities are from within, but some people are entitled and are granted positions from partial minded ungodly decision makers. Peace and grace to your family.
Bless this mama’s sweet soul. I’m so sorry these parents have had to go through such a tragedy 💜🥺
Big hugs for this family and all the families who lost a loved one from this horric, selfish, and destructive event
The murderer is gazing like he's not even feeling anything!. He is pure EVIL!.

You are such a hypocrite. If the murderer didn't watch / look, you would have called him "uninterested" and a "coward". If he would have cried, you would have called his tears "crocodile tears" and you would have said "He is only crying for himself".
Sadly she probably regrets every day moving to America, knowing a school shooting like this would never happen in the UK. What an incredibly well-spoken lady and her daughter seemed like a beautiful, talented young woman.

I love that judge. She is strong and in control of the courtroom.
Thank you for your words today it's so unfortunate because of the terrible awful loss of your wonderful girl... your words will make A difference! You r so strong... l Am full of sorrow
Helena was disrespected over and over by the Principal, the Teacher, the police...this is so WRONG!!!!!!
Admiration & condolences to this amazing family & all the families in pain ❤️.
3 am that's super late, One of the other parents testified that they walked in their home around 10 pm. Race is an important element, also Mrs. Ramsey said to the reporters that her daughter got a 100 and still was not accepted. Later on after another perfect score her daughter was accepted. This mom was describing how resilient her daughter was. He has loved us not because we were the greatest of all people but because we were the least.

This is so heartbreaking. I’m so glad this beautiful lady had her chance to say all of this. This world needs to change. Such a disgrace. We are all human, we call bleed the same colour. Just so sad
What a beautiful and devoted mother. I am so sorry that she lost such an amazing daughter with so much potential. It hurts my heart to hear how they were treated by the school and police department. Praying for the family.
Je suis de tout coeur dans cette grande perte d'un être cher et je prie pour vous tous que dieu vous protège.
This a perfect example of a juror with an agenda holding justice hostage. That juror stole almost as much from these Families as that Murdering monster. Someone needs to out that juror, so that they can held to account.

I agree. Now the fine people of Florida have to pay to feed and house this evil piece of s#!+. I only hope they put him near the most heinous criminals they can and he gets what he deserves Dahmer style......

Or is the sentence he got going to be worse than the death penalty? I would expect so and I am sure he will wish very quickly that it had been a different decision. Perhaps this was simply that jurors’ idea of the worst possible punishment.

What a remarkable woman, mother, human being. Not surprising that Helena was an amazing young lady! So eloquent & well spoken.
It’s unimaginable to think how cruelly her family was treated. They lost their child, were deliberately made to wait to be informed of their child’s murder; all because they’re colour other than white! To lose a child and be treated pathetically; all involved in this entire situation are guilty of inhuman behaviour and deserve to be punished. I’m an Indian, I don’t understand why the Asian teacher didn’t stand up for her daughter, really disgusting! And I’m in awe of this lady; her strength and poise show her fantastic upbringing and her substance. Being a mother, I can totally understand what all these families are going through, but that’s it. I can only understand, while they’re living it every moment of their lives. God, please give them endless strength and guide their efforts in making positive changes in society. They all deserved justice, but human systems failed them. Prayers, best wishes and love from India ♥️

when she said “last night” that really hit me. as if the night before helena died was the last night life felt real for her :(
What a fantastic mom she is, the world will miss the beautiful gifts she shared with her angel. How is it possible that this murderer destroys so much potential, and lives ???
She was speaking so beautifully on so many issues. Loved and hated hearing hit. I hurt so bad for all the families
he doesn't even blink. is there a human being in there???

Wow! I’m speechless and with that finish I felt myself going through this phone to hug her and breaking down and cry because I understand💔
I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m so sorry you and your family had to go through this discrimination on top of the pain and anguish you were facing. Your daughter is a beautiful angel. I’m in tears.

Sadly for all the therapy treatments, medications and love that the Parkland Shooter received he just remained evil in the absence of the real doctor from heaven.
