Mother Jefferson was a treasure. I saw an interview where she would apologize to Louise for being mean after scenes were shot. She was a sweatheart.

Zara Cully was a great actress!

The part where Mother Jefferson told George not to get mad at Louise for stepping on her foot because Louise has big feet, always has me laughing. She never let up on Louise, right up until her last appearance on the show.

Zara was excellent with her timing..... She could handle the rhythm of the audience and dialogue like a pro. Her best episode was the fall in the kitchen.

So did my step great-grandmother. She was always mean to me and my siblings. We could never please her and was never good enough. For that reason I always dreaded visiting my grandfather ( her son-in- law ). The last time we visited, she sat us down and gave us a very genuine and heart-felt apology for her behaviour. Then she passed away a few months later circa 1975.

She was the best part of the show

Mother Jefferson (Zara Cully) had great comedic timing😂! Loved this show back in the 70's and still love to watch the KZread clips💯.

She was truly funny and always on time with the insults ❤

Her character was so funny because my grandma loved my mom but my dad was an only child and his mother would still treat him like he was a small boy 😂😂😂😂. My dad would stand his ground. My granddad was still living, he would just say, " She's a mess".😂😂😂 I miss all of them.

Yes and Ms. Culley didn't initially want the role of Mother Jefferson because of how mean she was to Louise, she wanted to be Louise's mother, but they didn't write that character for the show. I'm glad she changed her mind (with Ms. Sanford's urging) because Mother Jefferson is iconic!

These are all great, but my choice for ultimate Mother Jefferson insult is from "Louise vs. Jenny" in Season 3. This was shortly after Lionel and Jenny got married, and as the episode title indicates, Louise acted like an overbearing mother-in-law herself. To her credit, after Mother Jefferson came over she had a self-awareness moment when she realized her mistake and made up with Jenny. After that, when she saw Mother Jefferson, she made a point of telling her that she understood that mothers have to let go of their sons. From her tone of voice, it was obvious she was trying to make a point and throwing shade of her own. Mother Jefferson's response: "How right you are! And Jenny, you see that you don't let her forget!"
