Thank you! It is such a lovely relationship. the care shown by the mother and the attachment of the baby pigeon are beautiful to see. There are some lessons humans could learn from watching the birds, they never cease to amaze me. Love to you from Normandie, Sue xx

Aaww thanks so much, your kind comments are appreciated as always. I love watching these two together, I only have one problem, the hen has established a sort of Pavlovian control over when the pigeon eats. I believe, though, it comes from the baby pigeon not from her. I put her out each morning before she eats for obvious reasons and the baby pigeon waits patiently by the food bowl until she returns not eating but just looking and when she comes back and starts making noises over the food, only then will he/she start to eat. However, this morning I was late and so I think he was more hungry than usual. Thus, he did just sneak a couple of sunflower seeds because otherwise this does not bode well for him returning to the wild or even being put out in the garden as I have such a lot of conversations going on out there over food and he is likely to get pecked or get very very hungry... Love from Normandie, Sue xx

@@Pavlovafowl Sue nature always is working away with wise solutions and while its not evident right now it will resolve itself in time. Be prepared he may not return to the wild and maybe his destiny is to be within your wonderful healing garden domain. Either way he is free as you are not holding him back and wisely leaving it to nature while providing wonderful unconditional service and care no matter the outcome. It will be very interesting to see how it all plays out and he is so lucky to have Mama Hen, YOU and the wise nature spirit that lives within our beautiful planet. Love and many blessings to you and your wonderful flock of birds.

Hi Marcie Thank you for those lovely comment, I so appreciate them and thank you also for telling me about the notebook, that made my day! I need to do another update on these two so hopefully when I get some light I will be able to. We seem to be in the Monsoon season permanently - to think we moved from Scotland to get away from the rain! Much love from your friend in France, Sue xxx

How wonderful to see him eat by himself, encouraged by his mummy hen! She is wonderful. And he is hilarious, patiently tapping away at the food. It is remarkable, given how independent a hen's own chicks would be at that age, that she is so persistent with helping him. Thanks for this lively video. Fascinating to see.

Aaww thanks again for such great comments! Yes that is so amazing the care she give, way beyond even what she eould give chicks even and she is an excellent mother. However, she has been broody with a fluffy Frizzle hen (also broody) sitting underneath her for quite some time in the coop, so I'm guessing she is so relieved to finally have a real baby that she is making the most of it. I'm about to go and get them both in from their greenhouse in the garden and they get an evening meal before they go to bed and they are still behaving in the same way, her encouraging him to eat and him waiting until she tells him to eat. No hen chick would be this obedient by this stage. It will be interesting to see how they progress. One funny thing yesterday, one it stopped raining long enough for us to sit in the garden for a few minutes! but secondly two adult wood pigeons came and sat on the roof and flew down to where the pige and Mummy were. I am wondering if they are his parents, although by the amount of feather my neighbour described I thought maybe one or both had been killed. Baby pigeon is starting to fly a little, so I wondered if I should do an experiment next time they come as I believe they are carefully looking for a nesting site in the garden, which makes sense if they believe they have lost their first babies by nesting on the outer hedge. However, I am loath to do this and then find he is rejected and then he tries following them and the mother hen will be frantic too. This is the worst part of the rescue, the timing for letting them go and he really is still too attached to the hen and she to him to risk it I believe. In the past when I had so many of my own pigeons I could easily have let him slowly mix with the pigeons and he would have stayed in the garden with the hen as well nearby. Difficult to decide but I think he should stay at the moment with the hen! Love from Normandie, Sue xxx

Omg I love pigeons. One day one just followed me to my car. I gave it water and it got on my shoulder and came home w me. I left it free w windows open and it didn’t leave. I went out on walks w her on my shoulder and people looked at me either in disgust or wonder. She was afraid of all other people except me. It was weird but amazing. When I took her to the park she would fly and return to me. ❤️ sigh... I miss her.

Hi Ana, Pigeons are incredible birds, they have really good powers of understanding, so, for example, unlike small children they actually know what a mirror reflection is. They also seem to be very much aware of when they can trust people, which links into how they perceive the World as they have just discovered that both their sight and sense of smell are totally different to humans, so it may be considered that their sense of judging may be different to ours too. Maybe think about getting a pair of fantails, they are very attached to their home and the people around them and add a whole new dimension to a garden, being very caring of each other and with such beautiful voices. All the very best from Normandie, Sue xx

"Home schooling Hen." (chuckle, chuckle ) I don't have smileys. These videos with the coupling of the wood pidgeon and the hen have been totally fascinating. What a brilliant idea and better still, with a little help from "Big Mama" , it is working. Marvellous.

Hi Carolle, Thank you! They make a great team these two. I thought our hen(s) that raised the jackdaw(s) and Pearl who hatched the ducklings were pretty amazing but pigeons expect to be fed by mouth and that can be a bit worrying for a hen! All the very best from Normandie, Sue xx
