Mother Goose lays her 4th egg in the Decorah Eagle nest
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Mother Goose laid egg #4 shortly after 6:00 PM on March 28. After she's done, she hovers over her eggs (note that the unearthed eggs are stained with dirt, and the oldest egg is the dirtiest) and settles down to begin incubation, which should take about 28 days. How will the parents feed their young after hatch? The whole family will leave the nest about 24 hours later and the parents will lead their young to water, protecting them as they go.
What are Mom and Dad Decorah doing? We've got a blog about that here: www.raptorresource.org/2022/0.... Does it hurt to lay an egg? We can't ask the geese, but the final slide looks pretty uncomfortable and it sounds like Mother Goose might be hissing softly as she lays it.
If you'd like to learn more about the process of laying an egg, read this blog. The timing is off, since it was written for Bald Eagles, but the process is the same: www.raptorresource.org/2020/0....

One of the reasons Mother Goose and Gus Goose hover over the eggs for so long before leaving is that the eggs are laid with an antibacterial film that has to dry before they/she can go. Also it's interesting watching the battle with the blackbird thieves that live in the lower sides of N2B that spring into action to steal her down for their own nests just after she leaves.
0:36 wow compared to the first egg that one just laid is huge.
Isn't the nest a bit bare? Just twigs.
I bet there are more comin😁❤️😆
