Happens in great Britain mate, In my case the other driver was prosecuted but the insurance company ignored that and 3 year's later my new insurance broker got the money for a vehicle i no longer had

Actually I think the narrator is wrong, the truck owner's collision insurance would pay for the truck. That is if he had collision insurance.

If the police’s insurance carrier wouldn’t pay, the city/county/police department should have paid. Mr Carol shouldn’t have to go through this when he did absolutely everything right! If his little girl had been injured or killed, I guess they wouldn’t pay either. Police get a bad wrap a lot of the time. They should be looking for every opportunity to support their community & citizens. Being “protected” from being accountable & being given “immunity”, while causing harm to those they’re sworn to protect, is the reason people don’t trust police anymore.

As an Ohio police officer, I can tell you that you are completely wrong about how it works. The man cannot collect damages beyond what his truck repairs cost but the agency is not totally off the hook like you stated.

Officers have destroyed someones home with a bearcat equipped with a ram, someone broke in while they were on vacation and the police pushed the whole front of the house in, causing it to be deemed unsafe for habitation and condemned.. the city and insurance refused to pay out, leaving the owners with a home they cannot use and must keep paying for.. it happens often where officers who damage homes or property while performing duties are protected and victims left with no recourse... Vehicle damaged in a police chase can be denied coverage, since they were involved with a chase.

I agree. But I think that there is some KZread clause that mandates that “everything is fine” and no need to worry. I see this in many of the Chinese based clips.

"... crashed into your car and totaled it." You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. Being "totaled" is determined by two factors. One, the vehicle is not drivable on the road, and two, the cost of the repairs to make the vehicle roadworthy would cost more than buying a vehicle. The truck has a dent in it. I don't know how much the truck is worth, but surely it's cheaper to fix the dent than buying a new truck. Besides, the damage is largely aesthetic, meaning the driver doesn't even _have_ to repair is if he doesn't want to. If the truck is still drivable, it isn't totaled.

you can't tell how damaged a car is by looking at it, that's not how it works. vehicles are complicated, with hundreds if not thousands of parts. anything could be broken under there, who are you to say that it's fine?
