Most Screen Accurate Knight Rider KITT Car Replica

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Knight Rider Fan Creates the Most Accurate Replica K.I.T.T. Car
Chris Blasius from Olmsted Falls, Ohio, Spent over 2.5 years, 2000 hours & $50,000 dollars building the most accurate restoration of a Knight Rider KITT replica Car.
I asked Chris What was the motivation that drove you to do all that work. he said “I told my parents at the age of 6, that I will own KITT someday. I actually begged them to buy me a new 82 trans am, and save it for me, until I could drive, because they were still new then. They said I would grow out of it... but I never did.”
Chris’s ultimate dream for the car, would be to have a picture taken with David Hasselhoff with the car and himself, and to put that has his Facebook profile picture forever.
Thanks for watching

CAR INFO
• ENGINE - This car has a low miles,165-hp 305-cubic-inch V-8 engine, equipped with General Motors’ short-lived Cross-Fire injection, which is believed to be the correct engine based on Season 2 episode 1
• FRONT BUMBER - Chris begged his buddy Marc Brown for about a year, to mold a one off bumper for him from scratch. He finally agreed to do it. It took him another year to sculpt it. Marc perfected all the angles of the original bumper by taking pictures of his sculpted bumper and overlaying them in photoshop until every angle was perfect. It’s so perfect, he has actually created a business this year making Knight Rider bumpers for other replica enthusiasts
• TYRES - Chris even used original Goodyear Eagle GT Tires, which is something most people would never notice but they were the actual tires KITT used
• REAR WINDOW - The back glass was the hardest part to find. Why it’s so special is, because its 100 percent clear (no tint) and no defrost lines which KITT didn’t have. It took Chris about 4 years to find the back glass alone
• DASHBOARD ELECTRONICS - Chris approached a company in Italy called ZA Electronica, who amazingly enough specialize in Knight Rider Dashboard Electronics, as it’s his passion also. The company not only makes all the electronics & wiring you need, but also with modern aluminium fascia overlays for the dash. But all these custom electronics & parts came at a hefty price of $3000 Dollars
• PAINT - The car was then painted in a black single stage DuPont paint, to match the original. The the paint job on this car, cost $12,000 Dollars to get it perfect
• TV SCREENS - The Two TV's in the car dashboard run from two separate SD card readers, and with a flick of a switch, becomes a rear and front view camera
• RED SCANNING LIGHT - The iconic red scanning light at the front of the car uses 8 halogen bulbs and the driver can control the speed
• NOS PARTS - Chris tried to use NOS Parts where ever possible for originality, NOS PARTS = merchandise being offered for sale which was manufactured long ago but that has never been used.
• BUILD TIME - Approx 2000 hours over 2.5 years, but extra time taken to source hard to find parts like rear window
• BUILD COST - Approx $50,000 Dollars
• MINIMUM SELL PRICE - $100,000 Dollars

★★★ *FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE VIDEO / FACT UPDATES* ★★★ *1) Did Chris ever get a photo from David Hasselhoff for his Facebook page* - No he did not, Chris reached out to David, and David was not interested in seeing the car. *2) Does he still own the KITT Car as of today 1/1/2020* - No he does not - he put up a video on 11/12/2019, stating he sold it. He sold it because he felt he has such a busy life now that he is not really getting enough enjoyment out of it or enough time to take it to car shows, and someone made him a really good offer so it was just the right time to sell it. *A little bit about the story of when he sold it.* kzread.info/dash/bejne/m2x127ycibXLXcY.html *I asked Chris how much he sold it for and he said* "Well not really sold, but traded for a new viper. So no money was exchanged but the viper costed $140k so I’d say I got a good 100k trade value.I already have another trans am to build another KITT , so KITT's not completely gone. *3) Here is a bit of Trivia directly from a David Hasselholf interview* - He called KITT in the show, Pal & Buddy but those words were never in the scripts, David added those words as he wanted the car to be like his horse, as David grew up watching Roy Rodgers & The Lone Ranger.

I grew up in the San Fernando valley in the 80's and Knight Rider was my favorite show at age 8, my dad drove past one of their film shoots on the street and must have noticed KITT or something because he pulled over and told me to wait in the car, knowing my dad I'm guessing he slipped the right guy at least a $100 bill if not more. He came back and got me and told me there is someone he thought I should meet, low and behold a giant David Hasselhoff dressed as Michael Knight walked up to me and greeted me in character, I greeted him back in awe and shook his hand. That's all I can remember now. Thanks to my dad and David for that awesome moment I got to meet Knight Rider!

This is why the 80's and early 90's were so special. TV made you want to gather in the living room and watch with excitement popcorn etc. Today it's just ok at best and barely that. There is no awesome TV anymore. Knight Rider, Viper, Magnum PI also reminds us how they use to grab our hearts with cars not just try to get our wallets. Today it's all about money and nothing worthy of being that memorable. Awesome car. Absolutely awesome and as for the builder you have my respect for holding onto the dream and making it reality. The 80's and 90's were definitely a time dreams were made and wish I could visit the 80's again just for one day. If you could do it what day would it be?

well, i think he should have added some modern functionality, like GPS navigation, and have it integrated to the whole image, i.e. driver says "KITT, let's go somewhere", then KITT builds the route and displays it on the screen, working voice commands to lock a door, open a window, etc, etc. Also it's a shame that he can't drive the car legally because of the seat belts, i think he should install them, it will lower the authenticity a little bit, but having KITT as your primary car worth it.

At the end of the day it's still a replica which will never fetch as much money or increase in value compared to having the actual car used in the show or a vintage car with all original parts. Given enough time and money, anyone can recreate anything. But finding originals gets harder and harder.

This quite possibly is the most amazing one I’ve seen. Accurate voice, the symmetry of the scanner/hood section, the visuals on the two screens, wheels, interior (computerized, digital, upholstery), and that beautiful black paint job! If I was to have one made, I’d want it modeled after this one! $100,000.00 shouldn’t even be enough to make him think twice. We’d have to be talking $40M and up for me, because this is my favorite tv show of all time and my favorite car of the 80’s! I never felt the other 80’s vehicles came remotely close! Out side of a $40M and up offer, I just can’t see myself pondering the idea of selling it unless a true emergency situation was presented and the finances were a MUST! There’s just too much sentimental value, history, iconic levels, time, hard work, patience, fun, stress, and love put into making this masterpiece happen! Don’t mean to sound crazy or obsessed, but this is simply my take on things! This is television, technology, and pop culture royalty!!!!!

I am a knight rider fan and I have always fantasized owing a KITT replica. I personally don't know Chris but if I were him, I would never DARE to sell what he built for ANY price. If I spent that much time, effort, and money to finally create a dream car, I would NEVER sell it for ANY price. Chris's REAL motivation was to prove others wrong, not to finally keep it for himself. If he's open to sell it for the right price, then that means he just wanted to experience the journey of building one, not necessarily keeping it forever. But hats off to you, even most crazed obsessed knight rider fans would not have gone through the journey you went through. Good luck!

What an incredible description - way to narrate - it just didn't only fit with the car but rather fit with the emotion of the 80s kids...

11:35 Chris push that asking price up to $1 million because this car is beautiful! This is a work of art that you’ve created! It would be like me building the Batmobile 1989 from scratch. I would never let my masterpiece part with me for anything less than $1 million because that’s one hell of a return for this level of passion and dedication. All we need now is David Hasselhoff to sign the damn thing somewhere in that car, or at least pose with you in front of it because that would be one hell of a fan boys dream. And I totally understand why you never try this again because this is a once-in-a-lifetime Herculean effort that would tax anyone.

Lol, 10:27 you're building a car that doesn't exist with parts that don't exist, for a man who does not exist. Amazing work Chris, well done! And with this masterpiece, it should be the Hoff that wants a picture with you.

I totally agree. To this day I think what they did with all the mods to transform a 1982 Black Trans Am into KITT is still one of the coolest looking cars of all time. I don’t care if it takes me until I’m 60, one day I will have a fully functional and drivable KITT car replica.
