Most PRIVATE Podcast & Audiobook Apps!

Ғылым және технология

In the digital age we've become used to being able to access music and podcasts wherever we go. But most audio apps collect a LOT of data about you.
In this video we look at podcast players, audio book apps, and music streaming services that DON'T collect your data.

14:22 Summary
Apps that minimize data collection can help us regain control over our personal information, while still allowing us to enjoy the convenience of our smartphone. While these alternatives may lack some of the features or integrations of their mainstream counterparts, they better protect your privacy, and are worth considering for a privacy-aware person.
It’s important we make choices that align with our values and needs, and choosing privacy-focused apps is a good way to signal to the market that we value our privacy.

    The thing that puts people off messing with phones is what if something goes wrong. If it was a simple case of installing Graphene, most would do it. What stops them is not knowing if it will work and the things in place to stop you bricking a £1000 phone. Then there is how to restore it if it doesn't work. That's the biggest barrier.

  • @NaomiBrockwellTV

    @@NaomiBrockwellTV I will have a look at this right now. I am aware of just what goes on with tracking, everyone is at it now. youtube even started flagging videos to get people to present a credit card and avoid censorship - really it was to tie a valuable profile with real name/address to sell. I also see how many people are caught using VPN and Tor, everything from clicking a link to a web bug to grabify type links. The Tor side of things is bad with traffic staining to identify traffic going in to the network and finding where it exits. I love your series of hard hitting but easy to understand videos.

    @@NaomiBrockwellTV I agree graphene makes the process very easy. The crucial bit we are missing here is *RELYING ON GOS ALONE IS NOT A GOOD LONG TERM SOLUTION* We're putting all our (everyone!'s) eggs in *one* basket of GOS & google pixels. We need awareness about not just unlocking bootloaders but having locked bootloaders & verified boot with custom roms. We can't rely on one brand of phones forever. Gaming laptops lacked mux switches, but after youtubers like you brought awareness, they're much more common. We need pixel's hardware & firmware security features & vendor update standards on more phones. We need youtubers like you to raise awareness among your peers & consumers to ask for secure elements like Titan M2 & verified bootloaders with custom roms which make it possible to have graphene os on more phones.

    11:55 a great thing about bandcamp though is that you get the store Integration but you can still buy (not just rent) music, as you get an actual music file if you download it, not just a cache locked to some specific app. What this allows you is to e. G. buy music and play it in another player 😁

  • @SuperWolfkin

    @SuperWolfkin

    11 ай бұрын

    All of this is true and I've spent a lot of money on band camp. For that reason. My only gripe with band camp is there's no way to do it with the app. I have to go on the website to get files so that I can then move into my app. So the other day I was driving and I wanted to download a band camp album to put into my music player on my phone and I had to load the website on my phone. I had to go into desktop version on my phone. Scroll down on my phone, download the file and then extract it and put it in my music folder. It's a minor inconvenience for me, but it really kind of kills the integrative aspect that would be there if I could just hit download and it would give me an option of download to get to the cash or download as an actual file

  • @1Three8Fiver

    Very real possibility the hardware in these devices is old and in most cases not still maintained with firmware/driver updates. So all the exploits that are known and have been rectified in later revisions, updates as companies moved away from them still leave you vulnerable. There are still swathes of the planet dependent on such devices and so there is still going to be a large enough contingent of malicious actors with enough interest to do so. Smartphones are not the problem, it is the stock software that is provided on them and the privileged system access they have. As Naomi recommends GrapheneOS completely unplugs your device from their tendrils and from an initial install if kept that way for the same purposes you'd use a flip phone actually provides a massive privacy and security benefit to a user in comparison.
